I have hope that they might add YY to Dashat even though people are more likely to use Kum instead. YY are fun even if not very good in the game right now. I can see them working with Nomads a bit too. Just because they are both mostly space faring. Though they could be enemies too. BTW by their background, they should have Terrain (Zero-G).
Shaolin's have as many model released and I do not hear people complaining, in any case, Yuan Yuan, were really old sculpts and they serve better the players as two single blisters, personally I am quite happy my Druze got them.
YY is also a cool, Mercenary looking AD trooper released in a season where several missions give a free Mercenary AD trooper, Heck, I've got every YY except for the Battlefoam one and I still want to pick up the new ones as they're fantastic sculpts. At some point I expect that the two new YY blisters will get consolidated into one so it's effectively SKU neutral, with the consolidated blister eventually taking the place of the ancient twin pack blister.
In only three or four releases though, because they had a box of four for example. And the last two could have been a double blister (and propably will be consolidated into one in the future).
You can only have 1 Uxia in your list but up to 4 Yuan Yuan. So it makes sense that there are more Yuan Yuan models. Of course in N4, especially after the FAQ to order generation I don't think anyone wants to bring four but that's a different story.
There's a big difference. YJ players actually take Shaolin in their games. They are also available to both Vanilla and WB. In WB they can even form a haris.
We should also acknowledge that CB's releases are not solely tied to a unit's relevance within the confines of the game. There is also artistic intent here and I believe we should respect that.
It's just annoying that there's been big gaps in model ranges in factions for ages and extra sculpts of unpopular models in little played factions getting slots. CB complains about SKU bloat but then releases two individual skus instead of a double blister. Been playing a while and lessons don't seem to be learned
That would make sense, even more if they would have done it in one release. They are up to 3+ boxes at the momente, so why not make blisters with two of the same troop type. Three. Before the new ones. The very first was in the first YJ Starter (I never saw this box in a shop, and that means something) ... again listed in Human Sphere.
I respect the art, not the business based on an artists whims. I'm a graphic artist. I make art all of the time that I rather not do but it's my job. I'd be fired if I just did what I felt like doing. I never said it wasn't a fantastic figure. It is. But it's not a figure I need to buy. I even play all of the factions it's in! It's going to be totally based on that it looks cool or what can I turn it into. That's it. Meanwhile they have many other troops and profiles they could have done that are actually NEEDED. Also, if they also make it look fantastic, like normal, then it will sell even better. There's still troops with NO figure at all! That YY could have been a single Taquel that would have worked for all profiles and probably would have sold more.
A lot of tech companies have (or had) policies that employees were able to do work related projects of their own choice or design for certain hours of the week, similarly many lawyers also take pro-bono cases for people and organisations they care about. Having a balance of sculpts requested by need, and sculpts fueled by desire is good for the concept artists and sculptors alike, giving them some control of their work reduces burnout, increases job satisfaction, and drives creativity. I don't think anyone is saying that all releases are passion projects (at least, nobody sensible is saying that) but having an allowed proportion of passion projects is good for the long term creative health.
Or… hear me out… a small rules patch to make Impetuous & Irregular AD troops keep their Irregular order would fix all of these problems -including- demand for the models. Yuan Yuan are fucking awesome thematically, and used to be great fun to field. I mourn their current crappiness rules-wise. C’mon CB, you know you want to do it. Just one small tweak in a FAQ guys, and the YY hordes return!
Wait, whats wrong with Yuan Yuan? Other than not getting a free order to drop onto the table? Which for 8 points seems to be asking for a lot. Like, if we had to pay 2-4 points more to be able to drop down with that order. I'd keep the 8 point version. I really like how yuan yuan are at the moment. I will often just deploy one as a smoke warband, and keep another for a hail mary drop - but like ALL other AD troops, you need to spend order pool orders to get work done.
I'm confident they are not "just doing what they feel like". They might occasionally push a passion project through between the major releases, which is fine in my book. And that's not necessarily referring to the (I believe contracted) sculptors, but the people designing and developing the setting and the product catalogue.
I'll just have to disagree and say it's bad business. The proof is the sales which we are not privy to. But it might be a question I have for them at Adepticon. BTW I asked why they are coming out with Bakunin so soon after Corregidor when others need it more on a FB post. They actually replied with a answer about always doing two armies for Code One! Um but Bakunin only has one figure in C1. Total BS answer but I guess it does mean another force will get something this year. Since CA just got Morats revamp I'm going to guess Onxy then. So far it looks like it's going to be a Nomad year. Not just because of Bakunin but they also already get the Lobos/Diablo, Moran, Tomcats and Alpha pack. They already have 11 new figures! The new Bakunin set will be at least 10 figures. Then the rest of the year will be more of them. Number of new figures for 3 years (2020-2022) O-12 52 PanO 42 CA 37 Nomads 31 Ariadna 30 Aleph 28 NA2 28 Yu Jing 27 Haqqislam 20
Wait...By your count PanO and O-12 both have twice as many new releases as Haqqislam and you are complaining about Nomads??? Bakunin really really needed a redesign. Let them have their moment.
As a player with a Bakunin-centred Nomad collection I can agree with the need for a rework, but so hot on the heels of Corregidor it should have probably gone to one of the Ariadnans, Acon or even QK first to balance out the power creep. I've heard nightmare stories about Ariadna in competitive play at the moment being reduced to Camo and bears, that seems like it needs addressing before the fun-but-subpar Bakunin. (As an aside, PanO always looks like it has big release numbers mostly due to the constant Military Orders reworks/rereleases. ASA, NCA and Varuna are... neglected to say the least, though at least we're not Tohaa or French, and even Sval had to wait years for key units like the Karhu. Playing primarily NCA, there hasn't been a release I've cared about in years despite how integrated most PanO factions are.)
