Hey everyone, I'm deciding whether to get an aggy or pass for now. Anyone excited for this addition, and if so, why? Personally I'm a little underwhelmed, like it's not bad, but other options seem better? If I want to murder, Achilles 2 is a pretty obvious choice at a similar price point, with similar capabilities. Achilles is faster and better at murder in pretty much any situation, while losing tac aware and specialist... But so much better at killing. I also find it somewhat ironic that the giant hammer aggy has relatively weak damage when you compare it to pretty much any other CC model in steel, like maceon or chain rifle myrmidons have MA 3 so they do 15 DA, compared to aggy's 14. And it looks downright anemic compared to Ajax, Hector, or Achilles. So anyone excited for aggy? Please do tell!
I think the biggest draw of agammemnom is the HMG. Not a lot of Steel Phallanx models that can sling burst 4 at more than 24 inches. That makes him a complement to achiles/ajax rather than a substitute.
@DaRedOne While I see the uniqueness of an HMG, in N4 I have also found I like them less. Dam 15 with no AP or other mod is not as good as it used to be with more high arm walking around, at least in my experience.
It also gets another order wia TacAware, and DAM 16 HMG is more useful against lighter units. So is twin HFT. I see Aggy as a piece very similar to Achilles v2, but shifted slightly sideways towards long range fire support and cheerleader hunting. It's also very similar to Shakush (though noticeably better for a very small cost increase), which serves a similar niche in Bahram.
Whats he doing with that fire support though? A basic HMG is just going to bounce most ARO pieces (besides thats what Atalanta and Teucer are for) and as for cheerleader hunting unless they are standing out in the open where they can picked off by a HMG (which is basically never, unless the table has less terrain than the average Age of Sigmar board), Achilles will handle them anyway and is better suited to those style of engagements. Also if you really feel you NEED a HMG platform the Hoplite is just as good and much cheaper and can get FT bonuses. But if you want the AP spitfire Achilles but need to shave a few points hes a perfectly fine substitute, and one I've made in list building a few times to get to the full cap.
From the point of efficency you don´t realy need the SP TAG. Achilles V2 shoots better, fights better and starts closer to the enemy. The TAG is slightly better protected vs hacking. Due to S5 can see an enemy sooner (and can be seen), is a TAG (do we still have a mission, that favors TAGs in scoring?), carrys a specialst, can lay out two big templates, provides an extra order, has a stronger AP Spitfire and is harder to repair and his dodge is poor. So in the end its more a collectors question or a the rule of cool. I would take him :-)
Trying Agamemnon (duo'd with a Hoplite Engineer) instead of Achilles in a local Resilience tournament this weekend. Partially just to see how it goes, but also because Resilience frees up list choices (for me and opponent) since you don't need an FO, a Doc, a Hacker, an Engineer...
So... Aggy is a pretty hard sell for Steel Phalanx. Only played him in one game, and he did OK, but didn't really do anything Achilles couldn't have done as well or better. Killed a revealed Fiday, a Hunzakut, some Daylami... nothing that Achilles couldn't have done just as easily (or easier). He got Total Controlled twice and Oblivion'd once... Achilles would have just gotten Oblivion'd three times most likely, though maybe not with Stealth... kind of a wash (though Achilles wouldn't have attacked me back...) His tac aware order was... an order? With Steel you're already playing with order-efficiency in mind, so one extra isn't that clutch. Biggest issue I ran into was psychological... with Achilles you charge him forward, hope to cause mass destruction and just sort of accept that at some point he's going to go down like a champion. With a "big, expensive TAG" (undeserved, but still in your thoughts) you're constantly afraid of repeaters, AP attacks, etc. and just don't use them as aggressively as you should. In the end Aggy seems to occupy the same space in SP as an Iguana in CJC (my other big army), (that's not fair, but it's just a comparison). If you need to save points, you're going to go for a Gecko in CJC; or Ajax, or the very-effective Eudoros in SP. If you have the points to spare you're going to go for the Gator or Achilles. If you want the worst of both worlds, you have the Iguana or Agamemnon in the middle...
Would it help, to team Agamemnon with Acmon up? The engineer is not hackable anymore, frees up 8 points and the team gets another tactical awareness order.
Maybe, but the Hoplite actually was a pretty good pairing. 6-2 move doesn't slow down Aggy and you can generally keep the Hoplite back enough so they don't both get hacked (no one's going for the Hoplite in ARO...) But you can't and probably never will, so... I'd much rather get a link option for Achilles than another option for Agamemnon
