Post faq 1.3: Can hackers declare any ARO when they get an ARO from their hacking area or just hacking programs/reset?

    Addition to the Hacking Area.
(PAGE 60) HACKING AREA AND AROS
Enemies entering or acting inside the Hacking Area of a Hacker while remaining outside that Hacker’s LoF and ZoC can be reacted to with Hacking Programs or with Reset.
In the ARO Check steps of the Order Expenditure Sequence (see page 21), players can check if the Active Trooper is inside any Reactive Troopers' Hacking Areas. Measurements must always be made from the Active Trooper, checking a maximum of 8 inches from any point along their path, and from the Active Trooper’s Repeaters. If the measurements show that the Active Trooper is within the Hacking Area of the Reactive Trooper, they can declare a Hacking Program or Reset ARO, as mentioned above.

Is it a fluff text or not? You could make an argument that if trooper gets an ARO during 2.1 EOS it can declare ANY ARO and it only gets Idled if the skill requirements aren’t met during step 5.

Example: Guidebot activates in enemy repeater area. Can Killer hacker (in Targeted state) declare Dodge ARO?

Apart from quoting again the same text where it is CLEARLY statet what you can do, i don't know how to help further.

Yes you can DECLARE Dodge. Performing it? Only if you get LoF.

So if get an ARO, you can still declare ANY ARO skill? Yes or no.

Obviously in my example the guidebot would ARO bait the killer hacker to declare Reset by first by declaring move (no LoF) and using the 2nd skill to make a (no-LoF) guided BS attack.

Mind that DECLARING is not the same as PERFORMING. And yes, you can still DECLARE what you like as long as the skill declaration requirements are fulfilled (see template weapons in ARO for example).

So in the example you're providing of a guidebot activated in enemy repeater area, you can declare Dodge as ARO, but you're going to do IDLE if during the whole activation of the guidebot you either a) Don't have LOF to such Guidebot b) The Guidebot doesn't enter your ZoC

What does the FAQs says? That Hacking Programs and Reset are valid for a Hacker when a model is active inside his Hacking Area.
Does the FAQs says that those are the only ARO at disposal? Nope.

”Reacting” and “can declare a Hacking Program or Reset ARO” are fluff text, got it. Never can be sure about Infinity FAQ RAI.

    No, they can't. Bold added:

    It's rules text.

This is not correct. Only Hacking Programs or Reset can be declared.

You are opening a can of worms there @ijw

Are there other ARO skills like (BS attack) that need to fullfill their requirements when declaring a skill?

It's not about requirements, it's about what skills you're allowed to Declare.

If you get an ARO from something within your hacking area but out of LoF/ZoC you can only react with Hacking or Reset, end of story. Much like if you're in the Engaged state you can only Declare very specific skills (CC Attack, Dodge etc)

    Keep digging that hole.

Effective immediately, the troopers can no longer declare BS attack AROs against active enemy troopers in total cover. This has huge in-game consequences. Nourkias is going to have field day.

Please see my edit, the FAQ on hacking area has no effect on this situation.

Norks Declares Move in ZoC but remains out of LoF, victim AROs, Norks them moves into Silly contact with second skill and uses another order for CC Attack. If the victim doesn't have any allies watching their back Norks can potentially move into contact unmolested (presuming the victim doesn't Dodge)

The reactive trooper can just declare BS Attack after the first move though

Okay @colbrook what skills/situations are so different that they need to meet their requirements during declaration?

They can, yes. Today's FAQ hasn't changed that.

Can you expand on this question?

Nothing in this situation is about Skill requirements.

When an enemy activates in your hacking area you can respond with Hacking or Reset, the requirements of the skills are irrelevant, these are the only skills you're allowed to Declare.

The corollary would be the Engaged state, where only certain skills are allowed to be Declared. You can't Declare BS Attack against a trooper you're engaged with, you also can't Declare it against a trooper in your Hacking Area but out of LoF/ZoC.
