I have made a new table. It's composed by 4 panel, 24" each, designed to be set up with different layout

Love the versatility in the way that you can change up the platforms.

Looks great and the idea is also awesome, I might actually steal it :)

May I ask how you created the different "height levels" of the street and the walkway? If I had to do something like that myself I would probably use some sort of wood as a base and then put some sort of durable foam on those parts of the panels that are supposed to be "raised", so the street isles and sidewalks. EVerything not covered by the foam would then be the actual road.

I would love to hear how you actually did it!

You guessed right. The road level is Hardboard, the cheapest wood I could find in my DIY store. You should buy already cut in 24" size in your local DIY store. I made the road texture in a very, very fast way: I masked the walkway area, then a base of black with a spraycan, then a careful application of spraycan glue. Now you cover with sand all the area with glue, wait for the glue to dry and remove the excess. The road is ready to paint: an application of black spraycan and white drybrush.

The sidewalks are made of polystyrene foam for insulation, 6 mm deep. You need a good blade and some trials and error to cut the foam straight and clean. The tiles on the side of the walkway are made of cheap cardboard, cut and glued on the side of the styrene. I painted with an airbrush before gluing them over the tiles, so I don't have to mask the road.

Thank you for the reply. I am already planning my own table similar to yours. The layout is great and having the two layered approach so create some distinct seperation between the road the walkway is really nice.
