Also congrats on killing something with the explosion. I'm sure it kept you up all night crying and shivering that you had to debase your game with risky noob tactics.

No joke, I literally had to make a bunch of idiot tier mistakes to fuck my game up so bad that I had to consider that as a move.

So what do you do for fun once you're done punishing yourself with your hobbies?

So, while I'm waiting to schedule the next match (this month was quite busy so I had to put on hold my gaming hobbies) I started thinking about the color scheme.
As for now my ISS are painted quite badly, as they were one of the first miniatures I put under my brush, when my skills were on ground level.

    How did it started:

    How it's going:

    Yay, new battle tomorrow!

We're playing Power pack, a mission I scarcely played before, first time with ISS. My opponent is a very expert Vanilla PanO / Shasvastii player, so I'm already prepared to die in a fire.

I'm not yet sure on what I'm going to bring. This is a training match for a local tournament we will have on July, so I should bring something reliable and usable. On the other side, I'm eager to test out some crazy combos and play outside the schemes I already used on previous lists.

In the meanwhile this is the "standard, reliable list" that I could play, and probably take in the tournament.

    ──────────────────────────────────────────────────

This is composed by some staple point I already grew used to:
    • Hsien to provide a power piece with a lot of burst (to counter the saturation zone malus), as well as the now reliable Pheasant that can take the antennas in the middle of the field
    • A Monitor / Kuang Shi core: it will be used to provide smoke support to the Hsiene and on my advancing /button pushing pieces, while the Kuang Shi will move forward to defend the center area.
    • Garuda and Ninja to provide a surprise piece. While the Garuda can give me a unit that can be parachuted behind enemy lines (thanks to the split deployment), the Ninja is a reliable toolbox that can be used as hacker, suppressive fire and button pusher.
    • Su-Jian and MBH to press the enemy /reach the console as backup plan (should the Garuda or Ninja perish)
Tonight I will think something about the out-of-the-scheme list and I will choose depending on my mood :D

Power Pack is a fun mission that breaks the mould quite a bit. It's easy to get locked in if you have too many miniatures that start in your DZ so a good opportunity to explore stuff outside your comfort zone for ISS!

Ok, my other option for a more explorative list would be this one:

    ZHÀNYING (Hacker, Hacking Device) Breaker Combi Rifle, Chain-colt, D-Charges ( ) / Pistol, PARA CC Weapon(-6). (0.5 | 25)
    LÙ DUĀN Mk12, Heavy Flamethrower(+1B) ( | Deployable Repeater) / PARA CC Weapon(-3). (0 | 24)
    SÙ-JIÀN Heavy Shotgun(+1B), Panzerfaust / Heavy Pistol, CC Weapon. (0 | 50)
    CHAĪYÌ Yaókòng Flash Pulse / PARA CC Weapon(-3). (0 | 7)
GARUDA (Forward Observer) Combi Rifle, Flash Pulse / PARA CC Weapon(-3). (0 | 20)

    lista.grupo 2[IMG] [IMG] [IMG]6 [IMG]1 [IMG]4

Still not too strange, but I added some twists I would like to try:
    • The Wu Ming / Zhanying core is already tested, and it gives me an interesting toolbox with good hacking options and a decent firepower.
    • Su Jian and MBH are the usual shock troopers to rush forward, while the Garuda gives me the surprise factor, even if with lesser impact than the spitfire one
    • the haris Dakini/Celestial is a support fireteam with a good firepower and able to provide a reliable smoke, to allow my troop advancement. Mainly a test, I'm curious how much it performs.
    • The Lu-Duan.. well, I admit I never used it, and I was curious. Mainly by going crazy on the midfield, launching repeaters and flaming the enemy behind smoke protection, but it would be a real test

Do you know if you are going against PanO or Shas yet? If Shas you might want to take a Bao for the Speculo.

For my power pack list I take Kanren. They can deploy anywhere in your half of the board in this mission. They can defend your console right from the start, take antennas, put down madtraps, etc.

Something forgotten in this mission: You get 3 VP for your Console to NOT be taken at the end of the game. You get only 1 VP each round for taking the enemies which is a lot harder to do. This is also one of those opportunities to make use of that AVA3 Husong?

This is one of those missions I pretty much don't care about taking the enemy console. It's about defending mine and activating antennas.

True, but the net gain is still zero. Defending the console without trying to conquer his one will result in both player gaining 3 OP. Being able to conquer it just one round it will score a +1 OP over the opponent (+4 if able to take it on the last round). So I don't believe it's a mission that must be played much defensively.

Anyway, I didn't know what I was going to found, and unfortunately my opponent brought Shasvastii. Why unfortunately? Because I knew what was going to happen. On this match I decided to bring the second, more experimental list.

Here's a picture of my troops on the way to be deployed, at the start of the game:

LT roll, he won and choose to act first. Oh boy, I know where it's going.

Due to the limited deployment zone of Power Pack I had to crowd my troops in two limited areas: on the left side my Wu Ming/zhanying core hugging a building, on the right side my Lu-duan masked by a TR Pangulin and the Dakini/celestial haris. The Su-Jian hidden on the top of a building to protect him from early monofilament blades. Kuang Shi, Flash pulse bot and MBH scattered around the main groups, to provide cover.

The opponent deployed a TR bot on the top of an high building, a lot of camo, three taighas and two frigging Speculo minelayer that kept in reserve by spending a command token. In this mission there's absolutely no way to avoid the Speculos to place the mines directly on your troops faces, and the deployment zone itself is so limited and crowded there's no way to spread your unit to avoid a massacre.

in his first turn he popped out two malignos placed near the antennas and took them, coordinated a lot of mines near my deployment zones and tried to bait my troops to trigger the mines, while charging forward with the Taighas. Fortunately I grew quite used to mine tricks, and thanks to a proper Kuang Shi deployment (and a bit of luck, I admit) i survived the minefield and the first turn with only the Lu Duan and a Dakini Combi down.

I spent my turn de-mining the field with my cheap troops, putting down the speculos (one went down and regenerated the next turn, the other one survived without scratches) and the taigas, advancing with the core and killing one of the malignos, a killer hacker one (not before frying my active zhanying behind firewall).

Second turn! He regenerates the downed speculo, engaged in some skirmishes with speculos and taigas (without much damage) and tried to take the console. Not surpisingly a ML Noctifer made his appeareance and targeted my advancing core. I admit I was expecting it (like I expected the double speculos) and decided to hug my HVT before passing my turn, and this saved the team as he was only able to direct hit the team leader (WU Ming tinbot), putting him down but without a catastrophe. In the entire turn I grew thin on orders as I started to lose the flash bot, the kuang shi and the dakini hmg. His MBH moved to hug the console.

My second turn: killed for good the last taigha and the regenerated speculo, removed the MBH menace and dropped the Garuda on his TR bot face, killing him. I positioned the Su-Jian for a final sprint as I was unable to reach the antennas (lost almost everything on one flank, the other pinned down by the Noctifer).

In his third turn he focused on the remaining speculo. Moved forward to intercept the Su-Jian and monofilamenting it, and grabbed the console.

In my third turn, I found myself in a very bad spot as I had almost nothing alive and very few orders. Still was able to kill the remaining speculo and securing my console. On the other side I tried an all-in approach, dodge-moved my Zhanying in LoF of the Noctifer and triangulated fire him. Good idea, bad result. Lost the F2F and went puff. With not enough order to reach the antenna with a Wu-Ming suicide-advance, i finished my turn and the game.

Well, a lot of things happened for sure.

What I learnt from this match:
    - Power Packs sucks, especially against impersonator or reliable deep infiltrators. I think the Speculo (thanks to the very advanced deployment and the minelayer availability) is the worst unit to be find against in this mission, and I found two of them.
    - The Wu-Ming/Zhanying core confirms to be a reliable fireteam, not too costly and really fun to play, with a lot of tools and firepower
    - Dakini Haris... well, not enough activity to be reviewed. I lost the haris bonus immediately so I found myself fighting with a lonely Dakini HMG, while the celestial did nothing due the unreability of a single smoke hit. Not really relevant, have to test it further.
    - The Garuda ws a risk that payed well. I was expecting to use it as parachutist, but the opponent was able to spread a lot of infiltration /FD troops and precluded me any entrance points. The combat jump was successful and really useful to displace his Drone, but it's still an action too bound to luck to be viewed favourably.

Yesterday I tried again Power Pack, against my ol' MO foe. I'm putting a lot of effort on this mission, as I have to play it in the next tournament.

    Yes.
    YES
I'm going to bring ISS in a ITS tournament. Wish me luck, guys.

So, back to the mission. After some talk in Discord, and following few @Mahtamori advices I brought with me a list a bit different of the ones I used to.
    upload_2022-6-16_8-41-48.png

First, what's the concept behind this list:
    • I wanted to deploy the combo targeting/guided. It's something I never did since N3, but I believe I can take advantage of the crowded deployment zones of this mission. The Ninja hacker is my spear point for the operation, trying to move deep in the enemy zone and Spotlight the grouped units I can find. A Zhanying hacker will be my backup for this operation.
    • Double TR Rem for additional BRRRRRRT power, and to cover my console and table edges from enemy incursions.
    • A couple of balanced Haris (already quite tested) supported by a lot of cheap orders and possibly some smoke.

Sooo... how did the match went.
Lieutenant roll, my opponent won and decided to go first.

My deployment: on the left zone the ML rem hidden on the top of a roof, a lonely Kuang Shi defending a corner, a Husong and the Pheasant/Miranda/Zhanying haris ready to sprint onward. On the right zone the celestial and his team hidden around a small building, Husong and the Hsien/CSU/Zhanying prone on the top of a building, to avoid enemy rush attacks. Ninja hidden near the center, not far from the central antenna.

His deployment: on my left zone a Crosier MultiSR/Blitzen nested on a building, a Montesa BS, a Sierra. On my right side an Teuton/Teuton/De Fersen haris, a Sepulcre MMR, warcor and Fugazi. A camoed (but not HD) Trinitarian on the midfield, not far from my hidden ninja.

In his first turn he tried to consolidate the field: grabbed two antennas, moved the Teuton haris near the centre to support the trinitarian, advanced cautiously with the Sepulcre. Honestly I feared an alpha strike that didn't arrived, and in my turn I tried to maximize the damage: launched a smoke on the top of the building in which the Hsien was hiding and proceed to fire to everything I had in LoF, using the smoke as cover. Obviously he took a critical hit in the face from the Sepulcre.
    Obviously. :|
Still I was able to spend few more ordersto kill the warcor and wound the Sepulcre, forcing him out of position. Jumped down the roof, moved forward and hacked DeFersen through the Fugazi repeater, first with an Oblivion, than a Spotlight. A couple of Missile Launcher salvos were enough to pulverize him and injuring the nearby Montesa. In the meanwhile I popped out with the ninja, dodged him in base contact with the Trinitarian and sliced him.
The Pheasant haris advanced a bit and took Aro position, without worthy actions.

His second turn: the first teuton moved out of cover, destroying my out-of-cover Hsien with a well placed Panzerfaust shot, while being engaged in CC by my ninja. Snap :(
The second Teuton moved on a roof, while the Sepulcre advanced through the right edge, killing a KS but being putted down by one of the Husong.
In my second turn I moved the now-duo Zhanying/CSU fireteam, charging the CC-ed Teuton. The second Teuton tried to stand up to provide fire-support, managed to kill a Husong thanks to a well-aroed Panzerfaust (ouch) before being Carbonited by the Zhanying on the way to his brother. The dueling Teuton was quickly put down by the multiple troops engaging him, while the immobilized Teuton on the roof managed to free himself from the hacking. After smoking his position with the Celestial Guard I then proceeded to spend 6 orders on the ninja failing every time to hack him again. With the last order I moved the Zhanying/CSU outside shotgun range and ended my turn.

In the third turn nothing much happened: the opponent tried to rush my position with the Montesa, and was killed in the process. As we were well past midnight, he conceded knowing he didn't had the power to stop me to achieve almost everything on my following turn (I had two antennas in range of my specialists, an objective done and another ready to be performed, and the console well within few order, with an almost full order pool).

At the end was a really fun and really tense match. And what did I learn?
    • The TR bots are really really useful on this mission. The 360° visor is awesome to cover the extended dropping zones, and the HMG rangeband helped me a lot to block the sidelines and preventing enemy advance.
    • Targeting/ML is always situational. In this case helped me a lot, and I believe against more "swarmy" troops the usefulness will increase, Overall I think that's a good tool for Power Pack, and I will use it again for this mission.
    • Hsien MMR/Zhanying hacker is a very reliable fireteam, that allow me to do a lot of things. I already did a similar fireteam in past, using the Crane/zhanying, but I have to face the Hsien offers much more raw firepower, despite my affection for the Crane
    • Miranda was alive! But did nothing, lol. Next time I think I will replace her loadout with the Multi Rifle, to provide a reliable alternative firepower to the Pheasant

Worth mentioning that kanren are a great solution to a speculo. you hold the kanren back, and then deploy it and it's holoechoes almost touching the base of the speculo. If it moves and touches a kanren it will be revealed, and it can't physically move through enemy models. It's waaaay better than a bao tbh

Cool idea but unless it blocked, can't it simply go around? Highly situational but does sound good.

Three holos is enough to completely block off a model's path. So long as you're infinitely close to 0" away without actually touching with all three, the marker is unable to leave the trap without making contact with at least one, breaking its marker state.

In regards to the Bao, I cannot stress enough how terrible of an idea it is to consider one adequate protection from impersonators. Biovisor is fundamentally useless at its job, since impersonators are still guaranteed two full orders before revealing. I wouldn't consider them even remotely for the role. I know Miraclebutt has had some success using the BSG profile as a CQB anti-skirmisher addition to a Zhian haris, but that is distinctly not an impersonator countermeasure.

With the speculo trapping it's important to remember that the Holoechos are removed at the end of the order. They'll still be a nuisance for template placement and movement even if the state is fully cancelled.

Against speculo yes, but only one against level 2 impersonation. Still better than nothing.

Biovisor does nothing against IMP-2. There is no mod imposed by that state.

Yes sorry, forgot. It's not much but It does negate the Surprise Attack from it. But worthless if he's not the one being surprised. So.... yeah it's worthless mostly. However Bao themselves get a +3 to discover. That works against anything. Always discover on 17 or less isn't bad.

Lets hope in the future they at least allow for instant discover with Biovisor instead needing to discover twice.

The reality is when the pool of Impersonators is Kuitaan, Fiday, Greif, and Speculos the Biovisor is just going to be too niche to be worth paying points for.

The only time Biovisor is a decent anti-Impersonator measure is if the visor is -on- the Impersonator’s target (Shukra Consultants), or if you are hunting an Impersonator down in your active.
