Has any new information dropped on Operation: Blackwind? All we currently know is that it is Hassassins versus Steel Phalanx, correct?
Just that so far, Operation: Break Wind will introduce Aleph and Haqqislam to Code One, and also double as a Steel Phallus and Hassassin starter. There will be a preorder mini included in the box. So far for C1 these preorder minis have been available to both factions, but N3 Operation boxes didn't play by this rule. Bostria did hint during Raveneye week that the ASS would see a revamp/rework as part of the release. Preorder and the week of videos will likely start on August 1st with the box available early at Gen Con August 4th-7th. Judging by past boxes there will be a Dire Foes box containing a character for each Sectorial and a convention exclusive mini that may or may not work with the featured factions.
Did he? That somehow slipped by me. Steel Phalanx got a significant rework at the start of N4 and (like everybody else) a smaller one with the new link rules. Do they need another revamp?
Having played against them exclusively for the previous year, I wouldn't say they necessarily need it. But having them released in a starter set is a good moment to do so, plus it means we'll see some new units, I guess (do they need these? I don't think so. But it is the estabilished practice from CB). There seems to be a pattern, these days. One old sectorial gets a major revamp in the Adepticon slot in spring (Morats this year, Military Orders last year), pus there is a starter box in the GenCon slot in summer. Which, untill recently, was introducing a new sectorial into N4 (and putting a faction on the map for C1) - and I'd be tempted to count a release of a new sectorial as a fundamental revamp of it ;). Of course, CB is pretty much out of pre-existing Infinity factions for C1 once Aleph and Haqqislam make it out in Op: Blackwind. Sure, there are Tohaa and NA2 left - but NA2 don't have a "vanilla" (one could argue, though, that JSA could make for a C1 vanilla army that could represent NA2), and Tohaa are based, design-wise, around a heap of rules that don't really exist (or translate well) into C1 (but then again, CB could perhaps prune the artichokes out of these rules, I dunno...). Tohaa, it should be noted, are in a grave need of a refresh, miniatures-wise (I'm not going to start discussing them rules-wise). Another possibility would be adding another two vanilla factions to the game - but I sincerely doubt it. There's a lot of factions that need to be kept in circulation already, and we've been told (FWIW) that the only sectorial the CB still has any plans for is the Khanate. ...or they'll be back to the beginning with a starter box with two already existing vanillas, just new models / sectorial themes (as in, Crimson Stone was Nomads vs Ariadna, but Corregidor / Kosmoflot -themed). Could be. Either way, that's just speculation: I'm sure the CB has seen this question coming quite a while ago, and thought about it already. What exactly have they got planned for 2023 (and past it), well, we will see next year.
I think he said it was mainly the Fireteam options that would be getting another pass as the current ones are pretty similar to similar to pre-update. We might see some Fireteams with a special effect line the Tarlok Fireteam in MAF. I also wouldn't be surprised at a couple of new profiles at the same time.
The rework will not be mainly in profiles, although surely there may be some change in some (and new ones), it will be in miniatures; more than half of the troop are out of production.
Yes, they are bad in the current hacking meta. They possess almost no defensive tools against it and are built around high value lynchpin hero units that cause their army to shatter if they get alpha struck and removed or disabled. Same reason MAF needed the Dartok, the dumbed down hacking metagame causes so many mechanical gameplay issues they needed that kind of boost to resolve the fact they don't possess solid counterplay in the other usual forms like camo. The core linking pitchers on Dartoks were a fucking mistake though, but that's a discussion for another time.
I'll probably get Blackwind, but hopefully the ALEPH additions for C1 are enough to run OSS themed in addition to ASS, since I prefer the robots. I'm also interested in how Hassassins get tweaked and looks for them. For next year, would be cool to have Spiral Corps vs JSA, but I kind of doubt it, yeah.
Didn't they announce that infinity and warcrow will have two releaseshedules independent from one another. So warcrow could be the big thing but there still could be (new) stuff for infinity. And if it is "just" bringing some of the older sectorials up to speed. But as I don't have any insights into the machinations of CB my guess is as good as any other so from another o12 sectorial with linkable omegas, and gammas, to khanate, or a refresh of the French and tohaa or a rework for imperial service or neoterra the sygmaa sectorial for combined, it could be anything or nothing. Time will tell
Well, it would be my favourite outcome - filling the missing (due to OOP, or not previousy released - there are a few in the Hassassin Bahram!), sculpts, rather than introducing new troops.
I shall be happy with any new sculpt for haqqi but there are a few older ones that need some tlc. Some older sculpts for haqqi though have stood the test of time for me. Still loving my lasiqs.
Hassassin Shujae & Nadhir lack miniatures, y'know. As does Yara Haddad, though I don't expect so see her in the Op: Blackwind. A number of Hassassin troops have sculpts dating back to 2ed, so they are due a resculpt. So, there's some space to fill without introducing new units.
Oh definitely there are profiles that haven’t seen a mini. I’m using the old Janissary with ap rifle as my shujae and I converted a yara from a spare andromeda. Some liquid green stuff was used and an old naffatun was sacrificed for part of an arm replacement… I’ll be happy with whatever comes though, it’ll all be welcome in the insane pile of haqqi I currently have to paint.
In the mini-info that orbit around Blackwind. For the design of the new myrmidon, we could think that Perseus will share elements like the helmet with the 2022 reskin. Spoiler: perseus And on the Sergio Luque's instagram, he leaked his paint recipe sheet and the new ALEPH should be darker, a dark steel phalanx. Spoiler: recipe https://www.instagram.com/p/CcfA0ZVt_fB/
The myrmidons leave in OOP at the same time as the muyib on 09/01, I think this coincidence means that the muyib will be the basic infantry in this box. List OOP for 09/2022 here: https://forum.corvusbelli.com/threads/last-chance-to-buy-09-01-2022.41283/
Yup, looks like it might go that way. Question is - how much will the Muyibs change. Compared to Aluaciles, Rokots, Zhanshi and other basiv infantry types in C1, Muyibs are a rather high-end troop in N4. Not to mention, double the cost at the very least.
They could go back closer to the N3 iteration. It was always weird that they gained BS 13 in N4. I could definitely see them be modified back to bs 12 and losing bioimmunity to get them back in the high teens.
Bioimmunity isn't a thing in C1 anyway so I don't think it factors into whether they get put in the box.
