Hello, I'm not sure how to deal with this situation during a tournament: After pairings but before starting to play, a player decides to leave (something urgent came up), conceding the match... How many points (tournament, objective, and victory) are awarded to the winner? Also, in the OTM, what is to assign a rest to a player? Thanks in advance
That doesn't apply. Byes must be assigned randomly (1st round) or to the lowest ranked player (subsequent rounds). What OP is talking about is a forfeit, and to my understanding the Infinity ITS system pretends those never happen.
From my pov, this is a BYE for the player who stays and a RETIRED for the one who need to go. OTM should cover both options mid-tournament
I agree with this... but I also think @Hecaton is right, not sure what is the best to do. Also, what if the player who needed to go, comes back for the next round? (which is the case as this was a one round per week tournament, i.e I can't retire him/her)
In that case, give an extra chance to play the game and then go on. If this happens once, everybody should agree
In duplicate bridge, when a hand can't be scored because of an irregularity, if the irregularity was nobody's fault then both sides get awarded the average score achieved by other teams in that round - essentially the same as the bye calculation in ITS. If the irregularity was caused by a rules infraction, then the guilty party gets a 40% (so 0.8x average) and the innocent party gets 60% (so 1.2x average). You could apply the same process here, for lack of a better option. If you feel the player who dropped wasn't at fault, award both sides the bye score. If you feel they shouldn't have dropped, award them 80% of a bye and their opponent 120% of a bye.
