The Impetuous skill states During the Turn's Impetuous Phase, the player may activate each Impetuous Trooper once, without spending an Order. During the Turn's Tactical Phase, the player will place an Impetuous Token next to every Trooper with this Special Skill. This Token will be removed when the Trooper is activated, or at the end of the Impetuous Phase for any Trooper that has not been activated. If you have a unit that becomes Impetuous during your Impetuous phase can you activate them? I see two options here and am not sure which is correct. Yes you can as the skill is Obligatory and Automatic it comes into play allowing you to activate each trooper with it as noted in the first bullet point. The second bullet does not state that you need to have the Impetuous Token to activate, only that you remove it when they are activated. You can not activate a Trooper who does not have an Impetuous Token during the Impetuous Phase. I'm less certain about the reality of this do to RAW, but suspect it is the way it is intended to work.
1. as the second quoted bullet only says how to handle placing the token and removing the token. It does not say how to go about activating the troopers. The rule for how to activate is the first quoted bullet, and makes no reference to the tokens. i'm not sure if it is intended to allow 2 morlock in a Taskmaster Haris to break the fireteam during the Impetuous Phase and activate. If it was me, I'd even say that morlock generating Regular Order at 6Pts a piece can't be possibly intended. Although, it is obviously no mistake if there is explicit instructions that a morlock in a haris generate regular orders for crazy cheap price. Once we reached that point, then, I'm not even sure if allowing them to activate during the impetuous phase is broken or not. People complained in early N3 about Riot Grrl having a rebate for Frenzy and never suffering from the drawback. That is nothing compared to Impetuous Irregular having huge rebate while being Regular Non-Impetuous while in a link team.
No, a member of a Fireteam cannot use the impetuous skill to activate, because: (From Fireteams, Frenzy and Impetuous) While in a Fireteam, the Frenzy and Impetuous Special Skills of a Trooper are not applied. You would have to disband the entire Fireteam to turn their Impetuous skills back on first.
Yes. That's exactly what the OP is asking, if you read the question: "If a trooper becomes Impetuous during the Impetuous Phase...". The tactic being discussed is breaking a Fireteam with Impetuous Troopers during the Impetuous Phase; this is relevant because several armies (Bakunin, Morats,White Banner) just got the ability to turn some of their "Irregular" troops "Regular" via fireteams. Thus, one could generate the Regular Orders during the Tactical Phase and then break the team during the Impetuous Phase to let the Warbadns run free.
exactly. break and activate. in that order. break the fireteam completely, then activate. edit: and if you want to do it many time, i'll be wasting your command token to reform the link at the end of your turns. so maybe not that powerful.
Which Is why I suspect that interpretation #2 is correct, but it doesn't seem to be supported by the rules.
RAW, the Impetuous Token does nothing but serve as a reminder for which Impetuous Tokens have yet to take their Impetuous Activation; the token is added at the start of the phase and removed when the unit activates or the phase ends, but at no point does it state that the model is required to spend the token as a condition of activating. Interpretation #1 is correct until we get an FAQ/Errata that states otherwise.
