Ok it looks pretty cool. It hasn't done well for me yet but but it was because I was using a proxy right?
To be honest Noctifiers are not doing well for me, they work great for most other people using them, so maybe some models are cursed for some players?
It may or may not be the proxy model. Some minis are indeed cursed for some players whilst some players fall foul of the “just painted” or “painted beautifully” curse and the mini fails all its dice rolls and just dies on the table.
Whenever I bring a newly painted model that I'm particularly proud of it inevitably gets shot off the table before I can even activate it.
Last time I played a noctifier he missed two times but stalled a entonomachos with Hector from advancing the board, then obliterated Hector in my active turn... Was a let down in the beginning but came back strong. If the Hundun performs in a similar way I will definitely have a lot of fun with him. The cool thing with Noctifiers is. Even if he isn't in your list he might be and your opponent can't be sure that he is not. And alone the possibility of him being there changes the game and approach your opponent chooses once he had a noctifier happen to him once.
I know this as Hac Tao syndrome. In N3 mine seemed like it ate a crit on 50% of the shots taken at it.
Noctifer does stalling better. Mimetism -6 means that even though the Noctifer might not be hitting, the opponent is also much less likely to hit. I've had a bunch of games just stall because of a Noctifer. Hundun is more difficult to use, you need to pick target even more carefully, but unlike Noctifer the Hundun has an actual active turn. Much easier to hit when rolling two dice You've got an effective BS of 2, you're so screwed. What was that? You rolled three 2s? I guess I'll just roll all my six ARM dice below 8 then.
My main problem is that I never have the points for it. White Banner is a faction of hard decisions. If it's a killy mission, yes. If it's specialist mission, then Guilang. If both ????.
This ends up constantly being an issue for White Banner for me, at points to the point where it can feel like a real problem conceptually. Mahtamori made a point a while back about how WB feels built around 400 points, and it really does in places. Hopefully the supposed oncoming fireteam changes help to shit things around in a way that makes this less of a problem.
I agree and disagree, while there are a few profiles I really do not know what to do with them, I find most profiles I mishandle are not themselves bad, but they require a list I do not want to make. If I am making this understandable?
Yes and no. To me it's about tools. I don't want a hammer to cut an apple. The "it's not your list, it's you" has gone a way a long time ago. Some factions just have more tools to get the jobs done. Yu Jing can but it takes work. I found I can't make a list just before a game with them. I need to make choices and think about how I'm going to use them for each mission. If I find myself with 27pts and 1.5 SWC and don't have the Hundun I might take him. However usually I'm already out of SWC or I have 25pts. left. If they ever allow Jujak to be the fire team instead of the IA rejects, I might be able to have the points to take one. I'd actually be willing to pay a bit more if the HRL had the MSV1 instead of an X-Visor. The XV is almost pointless since he's almost always in his +3 range anyway. If you are shooting at something over 32", you are probably already in trouble.
I thought that was me making that argument, as well as Infinity functions better at 400 in N4 in general.
@Space Ranger we are more or less in agreement, "its not your list its you" is still valid in my opinion, in general, more so in vanilla than the sectorials though, but it has become more and more a definition of difference in skill level between players.
