Hi guys I'm thinking about switching to WhiteCO after playing many PanO armies and I have a few questions. First of all: why isn't White Company popular? Did people just overlook them? Or is it because they are new faction? Honestly on paper WhiteCo looks solid. Especialy if You think of them as "PanO sectorial". Linked Orc is always great, linked MSV2 with smoke, solid hackers with solid repeater network, AVA2 Bulleteer and Peacemaker (crazy), AVA3 Fugazi, my favourite CSUs are there too. What are the cons of this army? Weak skirmishers? After playing NCA, ability to field 2 Peacemakers and 2 Guilangs seems not so bad. Do we miss some fast specialists or something like that? I don't know if it's just the fact that I fell in love with this army or is it really overlooked and should be much more popular? Also which models do you use to proxy Kahru?
From a competitive viewpoint whiteco is very good. One of the few cons I see is the lieutenant options. For Karhu I have been using the Nøkk from the Kaldstrøm set.
I'm not sure why we don't talk more about them either. They do feel like they are a bit thrown together though. Competitively they are good. Story-wise meh. For the Karhu I got the Aleph guy with Feuerbach. They also just recently added the Beast hunter.
I still consider them "PanO sectorial" and I'm used to playing Fusilier lt. Guilang gives us marker state lt. Hawkwood has CoC, we can run ORC HMG. Teucer as Kahru looks like a great option. Do you think I need more than one Kaplan and Jujak models?
Jujaks actually better in WC. Being able to join Kaplans or Orcs is great. A go to is the Jujak Breaker tinbot. It helps either Orcs, Haidao hacker, Gromoz, etc. I actually like the Jujak as the Lt. too. He's cheap enough that I don't feel bad if he just sits back and doesn't do much and harder to kill. It kind of depends on the mission. I call this my "Git er done" haris. JUJAK Breaker Combi Rifle, Heavy Flamethrower ( | TinBot: Firewall [-6]) / Pistol, CC Weapon. (0 | 30) HǍIDÀO (Hacker, Killer Hacking Device) Boarding Shotgun ( ) / Breaker Pistol, CC Weapon. (0 | 24) KAPLAN (Engineer, Deactivator) Combi Rifle, Adhesive Launcher, D-Charges ( | GizmoKit) / Pistol, CC Weapon. (0 | 27) 0 SWC | 81 Points
Both Haidao and Jujak seem crazy good to me because they aren’t that expensive but they are both 2 wound models that fill fireteams. With Valerya’s pitcher in link team and with so many drones this army can pull the clipper strat pretty easily. I keep comparing WhiteCo to ForCo and everything here is just better. Better Ava on drones. Better fireteams. Lots of MSVs, smoke. Tiger soldiers> Akalis. Guilang>zeros. Valerya>Laxmee I compare them because both armies have linked Orc and PanO drones.
The lieutenants are rather easy to spot with the wip role and Hawkwood is good but rather expensive. There so much good stuff with swc that the guilang lt is rather difficult with 1 swc. I do however take the guilang lt sometimes in the kill lt missions.
Am I missing something or John Hawkwood isn’t worth the points? Hes pretty expensive and fragile. Has no Lt special skills, starts in DZ and if he is lt he’s really obvious. I suppose he is a TAG killer? Maybe I’m just not experienced with CC specialists and smoke after playing a lot of PanO
He is good but rather expensive. If you role a wip14 for a lieutenant role he has a lt target on his head, and the enemy will also know you dont have a chain of command.
I have had him as chain of command in a non hackable kaplan attack harris, where he has been ok. Sadly the chain of command version doesnt have the K1 option.
Can WhiteCo be good with minimising the use of any PanO units or Kaplans? I can proxy standard Rems' of course except the Aux bot.
I don't see why not. WC has a bit more flexibility than SWF and a lot more than White Banner. But it might depend on the missions of course. ────────────────────────────────────────────────── GROUP 1 9 1 FUSILIER Heavy Machine Gun / Pistol, CC Weapon. It's a perfectly solid army rules-wise, lacking serious abuses but also much standout flavour in its design. The bigger killers are probably that its fluff is paper-thin, collecting it can be painful since you're waiting on SWF and WB units (many of which haven't been released yet, or only recently), and it came out with both N4 (which a lot of people haven't liked much) and the obvious global shutdown. I'm on the edge of playing it myself, but dislike the focus on the Cube-less Kaplans and the piles of Characters for fluff reasons.
I don't care that much about fluff and flavour. All I need from the army is to be good on the table. What do you guys think about proxing Varangians with Shikami? I've never played Yu jing so I don't know if Shikamis are so iconic that it would be annoying for opponents to use them as a proxy. I think they would give WhiteCo a more YJ-Winter looking warband
Shikami are HI and I always try to have proxies closer to what they are. Shaolin monks would be closer the Varangians.
Varangians have ARM2 and Shikami ARM3 and I think Shikami model is looking closer to ARM2 than Varangian models. I am more concerned about proxing "warband" with "elite" unit.
