I don't think we'll see reposes of the faction specific tags, prospectors and hunters. The beauty of using these generic profiles is that CB could actually to a regular release of one Triphammer, one Prospector and one Monster Hunter and actually do something new for the generic model. Tag Raid backers can use the faction specific choices from their team, but CB won't have to make separate releases for every faction to make everything available for play.
Also, to the people grumbling that they want a "Monster Hunter based Kickstarter"... this is it. You've got now got three monsters (4 if you have the megalodron) along with N4 rules for the tags, monsters, prospectors and hunters. All you need is custom missions and you can completely ignore the deathmatch portion of the game if you want. Also, the rules are out there... you can make a Stoorworm out of a sock puppet and fight Liang Kai against it today, so I guess you're right you don't need to back the Kickstarter! If you want the legit models though, don't get held up on the cardboard portion of the release.
Of course it's paywalling when you are not interested in 85% of the minis but have to pay for all of them, don't be disingenuous please. It would be OK if you could get the minis you are interested in at a higher price, but that's not how it works and it's 100% a paywall
I mean your definition of paywalling is so loose just about any box set of Infinity CB makes falls under that definition. I only wanted 1 mini out of the Shang Ji box, that'd classify as paywalling. It's a product, you pay money for it if you want it. A more realistic definition would be if CB were actually over charging on a mini basis.
Not a fantastic comparison as all the minis in the Shang-Ji box can be used in the same faction, so you're not getting (for example) a bunch of Nomad minis you've no use for outside of TAG-Raid. On he other hand, CB's official proxy rules mean it's only the specific sculpt locked up in an expensive product, meaning while there is a degree of paywall, there's no real pay-to-win, which would be a much more heinous sin IMO.
I don't really find a difference between technically able to use something and the fact that I'm probably never going to use even let alone assemble the other minis in the Shang Ji box. For all intents and purposes I bought the box for 1 mini.
Did anyone mention the fact that every troop represented in Defiance has had a general release or is scheduled to do so soonish? In some cases, the general release sculpts were out before people had the board game in their hands. The named characters are also being resculpted as part of the newest wave of Dire Foes boxes. I’m ok with board game minis being usable in the main game, but you should never have to buy an one-off kickstarter game to be able to get a certain unit represented. I’m very curious if we’re going to see some general release mining TAG, prospector, monster hunter, etc models.
Benkei, you’re slightly missing the point. This is a deathmatch game KS which happens to include monsters as add ons to the core pledge and hunters as part of the platinum pledge. I’m not (and I don’t believe others are) asking for a Monster Hunter KS, I’m saying that that would be more relevant to me than the one we have, because the only things I’m interested in I can’t get without a bunch of stuff I’m not interested in.
So far I only like the YJ Huntress, robo-dog, and all of the Morats because they don't like stupid miners. But none of them enough to spend the money. I'm hoping to try out the YJ profile this weekend. I'll post how it went. Has anyone tried it yet?
I unfortunately didn't get to play the BH this weekend. Though I have been adding it to my vanilla and WB lists. Usually the 16pt. but sometimes the 9pt., using Long Ya as a points proxy. Right now it's like the Liberto to me. It's hard NOT to include it.
Will anyone of you guys & gals be using a Beasthunter in your lists in the coming weeks? I'm curious as to how this new unit fares in battle now that it is out.
As I said in another thread it seems that the Beasthunter is going to be an autotake for a good many lists. Though which faction do you think got the best unique profile?
Nomads got a mimetic Long Ya with a good template and good melee and if you weren't sold at "mimetic Long Ya" you're doing Yu Jing wrong ;) . Yu Jing is a close second, but you need to work a lot more to make this one worth it. The Morat one is certainly the most interesting but I think it's army list footprint is too big to be a contender for the first spot. Ariadnan is a minelayer from greatness. It's all a very very tight race. Except the Pan-O one, whom is only better than the TacBow profile, IMO.
Seems like PanO gets the short end of the stick. The Morats get a brand new unit for their Beasthunter. I kind of hope to see a model of that revealed soon. So Nomads & Yu Jing won out in this new unit exchange.
I think that while Pan-O has the worst profile, they may possibly have the most use for the hunters thanks to Joan
