As useful and valuable I find the RealmSmith's tutorial (I used them for the wyrmlings and they definitely prove that painting such pieces is beginner friendly) I'd like to achieve higher end results with those bigger models, so I looked for airbrush tutorial and find out that there's one from @Den of Imagination 's YT channel for the red one. I'd prefer to get black instead of purple for the wing so I will definitely deviate from the tutorial but I will use most of its content. This is a really inspiring one.
As you could imagine, it's a pain to shoot it properly. First: I'm gonna need a bigger (light) box !!! Second: white balance is quiiiiiite a bit tricky on this one. Not varnished yet as I may want to enhance a bit the base and eventually I'll find retouch to do on some details. But overall it's done. Spoiler: Moarrrr Young White Dragon
Not going to buy another one, more about making a referenced pun. or Spoiler Still, this video is a good watch.
I'm not happy with my Infinity painting so I need to work on something else. Pic is not fine with the red work but I also need to do a lot of details so the nuances show up. The pic show it like a stone but it's really nice in hand. The detail work should improve the result drastically. Once again better result than the pic pretends. Surprisingly I didn't know how the colours would work and it's better than the two others. Still details to do.
Not varnished yet but finished. I've struggled with the camera settings but colours always end flatter than in reality. The Brown Dragon ends with the more "real" finish with a smooth and natural shading and some texture. The Black Dragon is a bit too much like a stone dragon but I like it anyway. oohe good n Red Dragon is a bit monochromatic but I did it on purpose as I want it different from the DnD one. Too bad that the highlight is lost with the picture. It's subtle but it is here. It's partly because I tried several red technics and should have stick with only one of those. On the good news side, when I acquired the Glorantha box I realised that they were made of a pretty soft plastic so I feared that the paint will easily go away so I put them on the not to be painted side but in the end it really sticking hard and being able to bent the wings was definitely helpful. On the not so good side, the WizKids Young Black Dragon was back in store. And, I get a mail from the FLGS manager to let me know that the Dungeons & Lasers are available so two of them already have my name on it. Apparently, I will come back home tomorrow with three more dragons to paint Whole DnD related stuff galery can be found here
Durkar has to be varnished but it's officially done. I had to put extra work to get it this bright but it was definitely worth it. Dragons are so rewarding. Next is Xenodragon as it should be done for holiday period. Spoiler: Fire !!!
Just found a cool one for you! Eventually I want myself. The wings are optional and turns it into an Asian dragon. https://www.miniaturemarket.com/asdnl0017.html
That's one of the other Archo Studio's ones. I took Drukar as a training before the Xenodragon that I'll offer. I may took the others for myself in the end.
Even with real life keeping to be on my way, I was able to work on the Xenodragon. So many possibilities to work this one that I choose to mimic the official art. I thought about using the chameleon colours first but I feared that it ends too much like Volfyirion. It took less time to paint it than to cut the sprue, assemble the pieces, liquid green stuff it and add weight to the base. Easy recipe : - black undercoat - all over Chainmail Silver wetbrush - wings membrane hi-light with white ink - global spray from under the (not so) mini with Purple Intensity ink - global spray from above with Blue Intensity ink - all over Silver drybrush Obviously I did some selected retouches in one or the other colour and had a mix of it on the membranes but that's it. Not the best paintjob but it does the trick and I'll be able to offer it next week (I even found a box that can contain it safely. Spoiler: Because it was a pain to get proper settings for a pic And because the sprue had a few extra, my friend will have some easter Eggs a bit early.
