Let us know how it goes. Sadly it's the IA fireteams that beat out the native sons. And that's in White Banner. It's hard not to take a SJ+Zan team. Edit: well actually it's unavoidable since they seem to think Zanshi should only be AVA4. They look fantastic! But I can't afford looks over playability. Meaning I can't afford anything to collect dust.
I was also tring to fit So-Ra in a White Banner list -came up with this one , where she teams up with Shang-Jisus and a Jujak engineer in a Haris. FT Core of Zhanshi in group 2, rest is WB staples, really. Not much creativity here. I play PanO sectorials and MO specifically for quite some time, so expensive HI links is nothing out of the ordinary for me, now I am starting to play Invincibles Army and White banner, always liked the models in these sectorials and I am quite happy to play with them.
Well I'm a PanO man myself but Yu Jing has also interested me as well. Which is why White Company is a nice middle ground between the two. So we seem to share the same tastes in factions. Though Morats could be a sectorial I'd try out someday in the future.
Good luck to both of you. IA is pretty good and fun. White Banner sadly not as much. In IA they put a bit more thought into the sectoral. There's a consistent theme and profiles work well together. WB seems like they just gave up. It feels very half-done. They had some mining to do I guess. It's disappointing they decided that IA fireteams would be used in it. SWF got Vargar (natives), Nisse (natives), special Orc troops, and AVA total Fuisiliers. WB got AVA4 Zhanshi and Shang Ji. Both of them are already core troops in IA. SWF also got 5 haris teams to choose from (now 6, I guess they really needed them?). WB has 2. Ye Mao and Shang Ji. You may be used to expensive HI troops but there's a lack of flexibility in WB especially. Jujak are cool looing like most of their figures, but again, they didn't think things through or play test them. Making them only being able to Duo and only allowed to join a Shang Ji team really restricts them. If they are trying to do some sort of story thing where they don't trust the Koreans after the the Japanese uprising I guess it could make sense. But it's not very fun. But what about the Ye Mao? Unlike all of their counterparts in other factions, Vagar, Nisse, Bolts, Druze, Wildcats, etc. they are only allowed to Haris. They also have limited troops that can join them. Also of those troops that can, it severely limits their ability to use super jump because those other troops don't have it. I'd actually advise you to do White Company first since you have PanO and Jujak can actually do a bit more. At least JJ can join 4 different fireteams. Orc core/haris or Kaplan core/haris. If I had my way, which is never the case, I would: For Jujak themselves: Immunity: Continuous damage Terrain: Mountain or Total Change BSG to Vulkan Shotgun Add another specialist Fireteam: Duo/Core/Haris White Banner in general Take wildcard away from Shang Ji. Give it to Ye Mao and/or Jujak. Ye Mao Duo/Core/Haris Allow Shaolin to form a Core or Haris with Jing Qo or Liang Kai Jing Qo wildcard Liang Kai join Shaolin fireteam Son-Bae wildcard Pangguling wildcard Allow Mech Engineer and Doctor to join fireteams. Create new troop to replace Zhanshi and be core and/or haris. I would like something like Jotum Hunters.
I think WBA is pretty functional, and I have been having fun with them for the past year and a half. It is kind of funny to see someone compare SWF as a faction people are "happy" with. They have a ton of cores/harises but people seem to really just use the Fusilier+Karhu. Also they have no camo skirmishers at all so it makes sense their fireteams have to be really loaded. In the lore it is mentioned that Shang-Jis do in fact monitor the Jujaks. While maybe Wildcard would help them, I still refuse to see a "pure" Jujak Haris as any better than a Shang-Ji + 2 Jujaks Haris. Ye Mao is the one thing I 100% agree with, I have no idea why they can't Wildcard/Core.
WB's problem in N4 (can't speak for N3, because it was even more unfinished then than it is now, and there wasn't really enough time to really bother learning its nuance, anyway) has never been that it was ever weak. Its problems lie in poignantly absent aspects of identity and narrow design. The problem with Jujaks is not that they are bad (among the roster of units available to WB, that dubious designation is one that I'd leave exclusively to the Tian Guo), but rather that their absence would go entirely unmissed. The state of WB fireteams being so limited definitely does not help issues, and opening that up more would make the faction a lot more versatile and varied. As for the Jujaks themselves, while I think they need something to make them worth taking at all, it's more a matter of defining a niche for them, rather than making them competent. The statline alone is fine, it's the matter of how completely redundant it is within WB and the greater scope of YJ as a whole where they become pointless. This is a problem that CB made for themselves by releasing so many generic base-line HI for YJ, however.
White Banner in N3 can be summed up with "they had hidden jammers and hidden jammers made opponents do dumb shit"
White Company is a really nice blend between PanO and Yu Jing, but for me white banner has the units I like from Yu Jing that are not included in Invincibles Army.
That is sort-of the same for me as well. White Banner & IA having the Yu Jing units I like the most besides the Su-Jian. I always liked the robocat.
But they have the choice at least. Whereas the SJ+Zhanshi gets boring after a while. There's no incentive to use the Jujak. Every time I try to add Jujak, I end up upgrading to another SJ, or Lei Gong, by the time you are down to one JJ you might as well kick him out and put in a Zhanshi and put the points in something else. Would it have changed the whole dynamic to have the choice? If that's true, I don't have the fluff book, they why did they make them Veteran troops? It also makes me want to play them less. For me it has a lot to do with theme. Having IA fireteams doesn't give White Banner the feeling that they are different. That these guys are defending their home. Shang Ji and Zhanshi do their tour in cold hell and leave. Jujak, Hundun, Guilang and Ye Mao are there for life and if lucky get a tour somewhere else. The Tian Gou are Navy and probably suffer through being on Huang Di. Lei Gong is Daoying, why is he there? IA and WB should not be able to have a mirror match.
Some of that is excusable in that SWF is second to maybe NCA in poor access to good single units and Skirmisher-style scoring while WB has most of the units that are a staple of Vanilla YJ play, but I get the point. Fireteams, and especially Fireteams in the active order-hog role, have become so integral to Sectorial play that having a narrow band of viable options is a big contributing factor to a boring faction since it drives every game to spend orders on the same set of units.
BTW, giving So-Ra NCO would have made her instantly good. It would possibly give me a reason to take Gao with Lt +2 orders. It's not like he can use them.
True as that may be, I'm kind of tired of every faction getting their designated NCO. YJ used to be the faction of great combat Lts, and the Daoying kind of just told all of them to move on over, and we've grown lazier for it. That said, the bar for a good fighting Lt has definitely been raised, especially with how obvious Lts are in N4 and how batshit insane alpha striking has become, and what were our good options for this in the path do need some adjustment to their leadership abilities to compensate. This goes for ISS as well.
For what it's worth, I've started testing the Hsien LT+1 in ISS and so far simply being oriented towards combat hasn't quite been enough to make it work well. The game has developed to a point where a regular MULTI Rifle is kind of weak, having +1 or +2 damage or +1 burst on your rifle level gun feels like it's become almost mandatory to make a unit like that work - and while that is universal to rifle-grade combat units and not just YJ or LTs, it does put a requirement level to the old Yu Jing combat LTs in terms of performance that I don't think most of them can reach up.

I have the feeling that White Company is a hasty made sectorial, throwing some dices to see who is in apart form the content of Kaldström. Sure you can do some very nice (and somewhat weird especialy fluffwise) firteams. In the first storys about them on the website of CB there was talk of some Aleph units ... only the Danavs is available. At sometime I will play it, maybe when I get boring of SWF and WB ;-) His armor looks like Daoying, but do we have some lore parts, that points him towards this troop type? @Jujaks: The Box says So-Ra has a Combi with Heavy Flamer ... so its still a mess with this box and the character. They realy should look over the profiles and adjust them. The Jujak situation is bad enough. It looks a bit like they don´t want to sell this box, so they made bad rules ... that makes not much sense for a company that sells miniatures.
