I've bene waiting to get any any of the Kaldstrom figures. I thought they will be coming out in an Action pack like they have been doing. But NO they decided to come out with this! I already have a few of these and I can't afford that! WTF?! It's like twice the price of an Action pack. Looks I get coal for Christmas.
Isn't this for people wanting to start an army from scratch, not somebody who's already been collecting that army?
Don't feel bad. I have only bought a handful of models in the last 12 months - mostly because I don't like the sculpts for a lot of newer stuff, and I don't need the eleventy other models in their "action packs".
Or don't buy the "limited units" Xmas special box and get the Action Pack when it releases? If you can find someone to split Kaldstrøm and Beyond with that would actually be cheaper than the Action Pack.
I'm sure it is. However what about people that are not totally new? You are assuming they actually do come out with an Action Pack now. Because of this, they might wait another year or more if they even do it. I haven't split KS because no one wanted to do it with me. Believe me that I tried since it first came out. Oh well, I guess I can just save my money. Or might finally get the new Shasvastii but then that means no YJ when or if it does come out.
Recommend buying the two player sets and just split them on a FB market. I sell tonnes of shit on buy swap sell pages people are always after splits especially when the boxes first release.
I guess it's possible they'll retire the contents of Kaldstrøm forever once the Collection packs run out but it certainly doesn't seem likely.
Don't have facebook so... yeah. But it sounds like a pain anyway. I just waited for them to come out with the damn action pack like they have done for Wildfire and Icestorm.
Well, buying single Infinity models from bigger boxes is the sole reason I actually created my Facebook account. It took me few hours of waiting for someone to buy PanO half of my Kaldstrom bundle. Looks like Infinity is quite big here in Poland :)
I regularly trade/buy from FB or eBay. It's not a pain at all and it'll save you money in the long run.
It's a great kit for people starting out, and a great package for a holiday gift. I doubt this will last forever, we'll probably get a regular action pack release later on.
I couldn't afford $200 on a hobby at the best of times. So a discount is useless. Especially when you have a fourth of it already. Fantastic if you need it and can do it. But to me this feels like GW all over again. I was priced out of that game where "he who spends the most, wins."
But why do you feel the same way about these bundles? They are neither exclusive nor particularly strong. It's ok to not have every product catered to yourself, if it doesn't impact your ability to participate in the game in any way. I haven't bought Kaldstrom and got all the YJ miniatures I wanted from it anyway. Between Shae's splitbox service, other communities and eBay, there is so much stuff available in various constellations. I'm not buying this set either, because I already own a good third of it and the rest is mostly available on its own, but if you are new to the game this can be a decent starting point.
If it were GW it wouldn't be discounted, but touted as a convenient one-click bundle. Which horrifies me to think that actually works on some people.
GW isn't perfect, and WH40k has issues. But I recently bought into the Black Templar starter box, which while not a great deal still saves me 25%. So basically the same as CB here. GW does a lot of shit, but whether you like the game or aesthetic the models are top notch as far as crispness and detail and easily on par or better than CB for those qualities. Their bundles routinely cost a lot less than buying the individual models. CB also do this. But CB also REFUSE TO SELL ANY OF IT SEPERATELY. They also refuse to release models for profiles for years, if they ever do it. Frustrating as hell since it's all mono pose metal. I want to give you money, but you refuse to make things I want. Please release full unit boxes, I would love to just be able to buy a box of Shrouded, or Wildcats, or Haidao, or whatever. Multiple arm options would make it even better....
The problem with GW isn't that the models aren't great... it's that they're expensive, and the rules and meta are so volatile and their attention to balance so cavalier that a model you drop a small mortgage on is often worthless before you've painted it. Time after time, you'll see units that you've bought, painted and converted relegated to shelfhammer, because only the new hot thing is competitive in the meta. Towards the tail end of my 40k playing, I got over-excited and bought a forgeworld Tyranid hierophant. It was an epic hobby project, I had to saw open the legs and reinforce them with brass rod and I sculpted a converted chest cavity so a hoard of genestealers could deploy out of it like a landraider. But... by the time I'd done that, which really was six months or so, new rules had dropped so every marine tactical squad could have two to three grav weapons in it. The cheapest stock marine unit had the tools to kill the 1000pts biotitan... because they'd invented a gun with special rules that just bypassed toughness and armor saves built into profiles and then given it to entire armies. It could be countered by every single unit on the table, so there was no way to play it at all!
Anecdotally, the Saim Hann bundle was 40% more expensive than buying each unit box separately or something stupid like that...
Other than the cost of a forgeworld biotitan, what's funny is that the rest of that is one of the things people love about Infinity, that any gun is effective against anything.
