Anyone know if we’re expecting any big news from CB at Gencon this year? It’s usually either a 2-player starter or a standalone army box, plus some cute extras. I haven’t been able to keep up very well this year, but maybe folks have heard rumors I missed…

Operation: Crimson Stone is/was the Gen Con release this year, and was launched when Gen Con would have normally been.

CB don't have a presence there this year, due to Plague.

Gotcha, thanks for the clarification. Time no longer has any meaning to me.

I was at Gencon and didn't even see any local groups playing N4 - nor any of the vendors selling any Infinity stuff. Kind-of a shame because Mantic, GW, Wyrd, and Catalyst all had a presence there. The Battletech booth was kinda nuts and the Catalyst gaming tables had a ton of people playing variations on Battletech and Alpha Strike. BT was my first miniatures game when I was about 12 years old and although it will always hold a special place in my heart, it really has not aged well. I'd love to try and reboot it (I demo'd Alpha Strike and it's not all it's cracked up to be) but I think the people who have been playing it for 35 years are afraid of change.

The local groups were disallowed to put on demos at the show.

That's wild - I would have thought CB would maybe wrangle some local presence seeing as they couldn't be there themselves. Though I didn't even see anyone free-playing N4, which I'd imagine they have no control over - disappointing either way since it was my first Gencon.

One of the local gaming shops (Games 2D4 I think) was putting on Infinity events and demos during the con, but pandemic rules meant that events could only be run by larger groups (including multiple solo GMs forming larger groups) which meant it wasn't it feasible for the local Warcor to run anything, especially with neither Warsenal or CB in attendance (they usually ran the booth together).

I actually had my infinity stuff in the hotel, but rather than drag it down to the free-play area, I did a demo game with one of my buddies in our hotel room. So one game got played!

The only larger groups allowed thing does explain why I played several board games in the Game Base 7 or Fight in the Skies Society areas.

In that case you should get your information from the future.

To be clear, GenCon would not allow it. I live in the Indianapolis area and spoke to the local WarCor. He put in a request to host Infinity events/demos and GenCon either didn’t return his multiple requests and/or flat out denied. Not sure which of those two. But yes, the local store G2DF (Games to Die For) did run a free event at their store on Friday.

The store owner, Jerry, is a huge Infinity fan btw and has a huge stock of minis.

I also ran a six person Code One event for several new players at my house, which turned out great. As I had never run an event before, I kept it to private invitation.

Hopefully the Covid business will be in check by next year. If not, I will probably step up and host a local tournament during GenCon week.
