I bet they come before Celestial Guards, because Yu Jing. Actually, just kidding with this, i don't think any Yu Jing player can whine about miniature releases lately
Not really successful, the japs lost everything except the Japanese Islands, and just because those are on Earth. Fluff-wise, they even lost complete regiments (Haramaki and Raiden) and a character (Asuka).
I'm pretty sure achieving independence counts as successful. Phyrric to extremely costly victory, but still a win. Kinda like getting a low 5 on a subject you hate. It's shit, but you did it.
Did you miss the Kurage Station on Dawn? It is JSA territory and it is a source of Teseum... You are welcome to buy JSA teseum, my dear chinese!
And still they managed to evacuate most population and they got their own nation; I call that a success without a doubt. Imagine if that kind of uprising happened in real life and ended like that, it would definitely be a success for the insurrects.
Well... you did ask: Removing Exrah from the game entirely (which is worse, considering it contained one of the priciest models in the game at the time). Faction-swapping Ko Dali with no replacement on Yu Jing's side. Locking good sculpts away behind pre-order and GenCon exclusives (sometimes for a few years, sometimes never coming at all). Dumping support for Shasvastii and MRRF without warning and taking years to re-design them while bringing out other sectorials instead (this is another big one, well big two). Many folks are not a fan of the blatant scale change when they moved over to digital sculpting (and this only gets worse with them now introducing re-packs with two different scales). The ponderous speed at which they release books has been a long-time sticking point. The poor quality of the Campaign: Paradiso book, simultaneously late while also containing so many errors that it still ended up feeling rushed. Causing massive delays in the RPG because of their lack of organization and communication, primarily since the only person who can approve anything is Gutier. Their lack of tact in PR often coming across as eye-rollingly trite if not even somewhat mean-spirited. The Human Sphere reprint debacle (when N3 dropped they said they had no plans to reprint Human Sphere and other 2nd Edition books and encouraged folks to buy them, only to turn around and reprint them). For folks that have been with the company for a while, it certainly doesn't all come up roses. The single thread running through almost all of this is a general lack of forward thinking and poor communication with their fan base about future plans. This is basically 90% of the issue some Yu Jing players are currently having with this JSA roll out. A lack of clear communication and a lack of forward planning on CB's part. This is an area the company has really, really needed to work on for a long time and something where their love of coy and cryptic marketing has continued to bite them in the ass as time goes on.
So last night someone was trying to talk me into playing Necromunda. It appears that the only way to get the Necromunda rulebook is to buy the two player starter box. Which means to get a copy of the base rules you have to purchase the models for two gangs that you might not want to play and terrain that you might not want. Compare that to Infinity where the rules are free in a PDF, free in an online wiki, and has a free army builder. CB has made disappointing moves in the past. Like not getting the HSN3 profiles out in a timely manner, but there is a big difference between a company making a disappointing move and a dick move. It is like people have lost the distinction between malfeasance and disappointment. CB gave official permission for YJ players to use their JSA models as proxies in tournaments. Their obiwaban can be a ninja. Their Shikami can be a Hac Tao. CB didn't steal models from anyone. CB moved unit profiles around and let YJ have a wider array of lore compliant alternate sculpts since the units and SOPs of the disloyal forces wouldn't be continued and any loyalists and their equipment would be folded into loyal units. The only thing a YJ player potentially got hosed on is Aragotos, but I wouldn't be surprised if YJ didn't get a new bike option at some point because the one thing CB isn't is a dick and that non-dickishness will likely incline them to fix that.
You're being very kind to new-Necromunda. And I'm saying that as a fan of the original and someone that owns easily 8+ gangs....
New Necromunda is fine, but you have to resign yourself to GW's money-grubbing piecemeal manner of releasing rules and other materials (FW for bounty hunters, really?) if you're going to play it. I have no issue with any of that personally, but I don't expect everyone to share that view. I would probably feel differently if I were on a tighter budget. That said, CB's been great over the years. Do I think they flubbed the roll out of this JSA thing a bit? Yup, and I get why some people are mad. Still, as I've stated elsewhere, as with most of life's myriad disappointments you only really have two choices: you can either move forward and make the best of things (either with Infinity, or with something else) or you can just piss and moan. You will be happier, and you will enjoy life more, if you choose the former.
Exrah didn't sell. The Exrah line one miniatures went out of business. The customers for the Exrah line of models lost their line of models because there were not enough customers for the Exrah line of models. This is the customer's "fault" not CB's fault. CB isn't running their business rent free out of their mom's basement. She was a Tiger Soldier correct? YJ has a profile for Tiger Soldiers right? But there are other good sculpts for those same models right? Those are ALTERNATE sculpts, as in an alternative for another version. They didn't dump support. You can play those armies and buy those models. Dumping support would have been them saying they wouldn't ever get anything new, which is the literal opposite of what they actually did. They said they would be a TON of new stuff for them but not for a few years. They have affirmed support for them, it just isn't happening yet. QQ more, the N3 sculpts look great, and assembly and casting quality has improved and continues to improve with N3. Have you checked Army since the HSN3 book came out? Turns out things get added there that are not in any book. Yea. It is almost like CB looked in the mirror and said they needed to fix their issues and completely re-did the game to a higher standard to address these exact issues. So you funded a kickstarter by another company that said it was making the RPG because CB didn't have time to make the RPG, but that the company was also promising to run everything past CB... and the kickstarter blew up and created a massive scope creep from day one... and you are surprised there were delays related to running everything past CB because CB was busy... Have you ever worked on any sort of real project ever? FFS, the RPG got finished and didn't cost you extra. Good, fast, cheap: pick two. Maybe if you have the thinnest skin that the slightest pin prick slays your soul. Others of us roll our eyes at the bubble wrapped obsequious messaging that some people seem to need these days. Yea. You pretty much have ONE legit complaint.
So is the line about support. "It's OK guys CB said you'll get stuff" *time passes, no stuff, no update* "It's OK guys CB said you'll get stuff in the next book due 2016" *2016 passes, no stuff, no update* "It's OK guys CB said you'll get stuff but not in the upcoming book, maybe in the next" *2017 passes, no stuff, no update, most players leave, Shas and MRRF appear in tournaments maybe once a year* "It's OK guys CB said you'll get stuff, not in the upcoming book because it's NA2, the next book due... someday... has space for only one of you, the other maybe in some future book, but don't worry, we'll get there someday" "Sorry about the stuff we promised and did absolutely nothing with, but you'll vote for us in the next elections right? Right?"
So, CB being a small company, their decision to move to digital design, and using ltd edition models to encourage sales are your main grumbles? Man are you spoiled by being an Infinity fan.
You know what he meant. Take it out of context and roll your eyes if you like, fact is they didn't sell and didn't fit in with the design direction.
Alright peeps, I'm normally one for some good fanboying but this is getting way off topic. Do we know if we might get anything more in April in terms of miniatures? Has bostria dropped some crumbs that I missed?
