Ah. Hmm. Well E/M Mines are cool. Was kind of hoping she'd have something a bit more flashy or build-around than just E/M Mines, BS 14, and a Tinbot (that Shang Ji-sus already brings) though. Like she's not BAD; in fact she looks pretty good. But she's not going to get regular Jujaks on the table or anything. And she's not terribly exciting. Boring, but Practical.
she is terrible basically a generic Jujak with +1BS and worse flamer (or no template at all which is just lol) 6 pts for just veteran classifieds and +1bs is laughable e/m mines is a great piece of gear but when it is a free bonus and extremely situational in the end even if she is full wildcard lei gong is better because he can do one card more and sees through smoke compare to Tai Sheng and Patsy Garnett
Well I guess it's only fitting that a bland HI get an equally bland "Character" version This feels sort of like it's competing with the Hundun (Shock Marksman) profile but I feel like if I was going to take such a thing I'd rather have the MSV1, Mimetism, Camo, and HD of the Hundun has rather than slightly better BS and the extra wound. Also I get the idea of marksmen/snipers having defensive mines from a flavor perspective, but in practice it always feels like a waste to me... maybe I just don't know how to play them right. Very cool model though - I'm tempted to get these guys just to paint them and then figure out how they'll fit into the army later.
Oh yeah I nearly forgot! Jujaks and Daofei are "Veteran Troops" but don't have the Veteran skill, but Qiang Gao and Adil have the Veteran skill but are not "Veteran Troops", except that they sort of ARE Veterans Troops because of how ITS treats characters. And now So-ra does not have the Veteran skill and is not a Veteran Troop, but also IS a Veteran Troop because she's a character too. It's so simple! (bonus: Krakot Renegades have the Veteran skill but are not Veteran Troops and not characters so they don't count for classifieds - it's not confusing at all)
So, who wants to join in on my conspiracy theory that they made her model as a generic Jujak, and then realized too late that they already have a combi/HFT model in Kaldstrom. As a quick fix, they throw together the excuse of her being a character so that they can reason away that redundancy. Which would make a bit of sense, since the tinbot in the box isn't actually compatible with any of the profiles in it (although it would fit with a mistaken rifle on a default profile). Either way, unless we haven't seen something in WB's version that CB has yet to reveal, it really looks like very little effort was put into her profile.
To be COMPLETELY fair; she pays 6 points for +1 Damage, Shock Ammunition, E/M Mines, +1 CC, +1 BS, and upgrading her pistol to Breaker. Which... isn't very inspired, but it does seem to somewhat check out (Light Flamethrower +1 Damage is just a smaller Heavy Flamethrower). E/M mines are useful enough by themselves to justify taking her in Panic Room, Armory, or BioTechVore at least (She's the only linkable unit with mines of any kind in White Banner, and the shorter range of the LFT doesn't matter as much here), but I was kinda hoping for something that would shake up White Banner a bit more.
The good thing about not having high hopes is not being disappointed. But I still am. So-Ra is So-Boring. She still needs a Shang Ji to be in a core team so you are just adding points to something already expensive. And on her own she's... man I can't even think of using her on her own. Again disappointment on top of disappointment. Light Flamethrower? Really? I think you have it. Krit Kokram/Tai Sheng all over again. At least Krit became good but years later.
I am holding out on fireteams, because a lot of times the revealed profile is the Vanilla one, or at least I hope it is.
When was the last time they made a change like that without a new edition? So our choices are Shang Ji team or by herself, oh sorry Duo. Like that's a thing in this army. And WTF is the point of a Combi-Rifle (Shock)? Why not just give her a Shock MR on all? So dumb!
Most of the time, the profiles revealed are missing their fireteam options outside of their profile. So generally they don’t show any Special Fireteam, Wildcard, or Counts as rules.
Not getting my hopes up. I just don't get it. Why make a non-specialist character who isn't even that good at other things? At most she has a Damage 14 weapon. Sure she hit's a little better but it pings off armor. Sorry i'm still a bit pissed about my whole Shang Ji team being locked down by Mary Problems who gets a lot out of only 28pts.
Oh yeah, I am definitely not defending her profile at all, just saying we don’t know how she links! That’ll happen, but Shang-Jis are still pretty good, and WBA has the perfect way to deal with Mary, Guilangs.
I had Guilangs. They did nothing. She was on top of a building and I would have had to climb to get to her. And the attacking with the Guilang hacker was a gamble I didn't want to take. I probably should have tired it.
