Coming in pretty late, but from what I am getting at, MSV1 Hackers just have the ability to ARO bait dodge/reset/bs attack? And I am assuming the idea is if they declare BS attack, you just hack to void it? Very interesting. Guilang hacker has always been super good, but never thought of it also getting some smoke-baiting fun.
If they declare BS Attack or Dodge AROs, your MSV hacker declares a hacking program of some kind to get it to be uncontested. If your opponent declares Reset ARO, you shoot them on again normal rolls. No matter what they do you get an uncontested attack at them if they don't have their own hacking device (or pheroware I guess). You basically just ask your opponent how they'd prefer to die. I think this is unique to CJC (Wildcats) and Morats (Yaogat) outside of Yu Jing. Pan-O has some MSV hackers but obviously they can't throw smoke. CJC are still the best at it because they can put a smoke thrower in the link and Wildcats can core link as well.
Wow it gives me reason to use the Maakrep! MSV2 hacker also with Sixth Sense. There's also the Djanbazan MSV2, Govad MSV1 and Veteran hacker.
Just a short note... every HI hacker of the list can get firewalled with an evo. that can make the difference on solo hackers like zenchas, liuxing, daofei, hactao... or can improve the performance of hackers that doesn't have access to tinbots so easily the problem in my opinion is the cost. 16 points for a firewall? In my opinion the problem is the fact that the evo doesn't provide enough for it's cost. This can be different if there's other reason to align it, like providing suportware to a remote or a combat jump
IMO, 16 points isn't bad. There's only 2 problems with those buggers; 1) you can't strategic CT Fairy Dust and 2) they really should have a light shotgun
Agreed, it should be used as a multi-purpose tool. In YJ and ISS I've never had issues incorporating various interactions with it. Between Dakini, Garuda, Tigers, Liu Xing, Rui Shi, Lu Duan and Long Ya there is usually at least one additional use for the evo.
Wow - this were passing me by - its a great use for Visor-Hackers. But, as you can make guessing ARO now, isnt the hack a FtF with -6 Mod for the shooting ARO? I mean, if there is no smoke BS vs Hacking is a FtF. With smoke a non-visored shot ARO would be a FtF with both sides have -6 (MSV 1) or no Mods (MSV2+)? And its only 15 Points :-)
It's not a FtF because the BS attack never happens. If someone within ZoC moves, you can declare BS attack against them, but if it isn't legal during resolution it becomes idle instead. Since the hacker moved within ZoC, you have a valid ARO to declare, so you can declare BS attack. If the trigger model then decides to shoot you, you then get to shoot back at -6. However, if they DON'T shoot you, then the special "return fire through smoke" rule doesn't trigger, so the attack is cancelled due to no LoF to the target.
And an order! If it was something you could start with it would be great. I find an EVO hard to fit in YJ. It's either I cant' fit in pts or SWC after I take the guys that are going to do the most work. I make more of an effort for area control missions for the overlap of baggage.
My problem is almost the opposite. Every time I build a YJ list I take all the troops I like to play only to discover I'm 150 points deep and don't have any slots left. I guess I just love warbands too much. The new Motorized Bounty Hunters are gonna make it even worse, too. It's a pretty nice problem to have, admittedly.
Having bumped into a Rasyat with a Zhanying over the weekend and defeated it in close combat, the Zhanying hacker is now even more favorite for me. Impressive that Para -6 CCW turns a CC 21, NBW and MA-2 cc specialist into a straight dice off of 15 vs 18! It was my madtraps Zhanying that bested the Rasyat, but being able to IMM-A something, then auto hit a d-charge on it if it attempts to reset is so hilarious that it's worth having a Zhanying hacker around before you even think about the hacking side of things.
The IMM from para weapons is actually removed by Dodge -6 instead of reset, same as glue. It's still a decent FtF but not normal rolls.
Sorry, edited now as I meant a straight dice off rather than a normal roll... it removed the +4 bonus that the Rasyat would normally add to its dice if it was able to make good use of the +3 MA2 bonus to bump it to CC 24. Knocked down to 18 it was a much fairer fight. There's a couple of interesting things that come into play with the Para -6. Assuming the Zhanying wins the first combat, if you're in silhouette contact with a zhanying and you try to remove your IMM-A you'll have to dodge at -12, -6 from IMM-A and -6 as the Zhanying will probably just CC ARO to zap you again... unless it's the Zhanying hacker. The hacker will just place d-charges on an IMM-A target in ARO with no roll necessary, so you get one chance to dodge at -6 and auto-explode at the resolution of the order. Basically, if a Zhanying zaps you, it's not a great time to try to resist arrest.
Thanks for this laugh and the overall elaboration. I'm happy to see Zhanying in the limelight for once.
