For me the kosmoflot half is okay, but not great as I was hoping for. Zenit pose is very much a pinup pose. Rokots do not really care for them, they are okay but I will use proxies for them to save painting time. SAS is thinner than I would have liked. Volkolak is just a regular hmg pose and paracommando is close to what I was expecting. Will have to see all sides of miniatures to say if I hate them or not. By the end of the week I will decide to buy them or wait for better miniatures.
I think I agree with you. They should have done a Shasvastii-like re-do of Caledonians. They had no need to "force in" a new sectoral. They've almost made things worse for themselves. They only needed to add, subract and change a few existing.
the thing is... will be Wallace in Code One and will be Lieutenant? PS: I'll bet for Kosmosoldat T2, Cateran T2 and ???
as i've mentioned when n4 was announced, they already had starmada (and lesser extent 0-12) as their new faction centerpiece, the resources spent could have better used fixing/improving the USA or FRRM
Kinda surprised over the vibe here, I think Kosmoflot looks pretty good. It plays pretty well and different enough from the other ariadna sectorials.
I think the frustration comes from there being zero effort put into making low performing factions better and instead they just make new sectorials. USARF and MRRF both already exist and need some help. Not to mention every NA2, and a few others.
I have only two NA2 factions (Dashat and Starco) and I don’t consider them bad or underperforming like MRRF in N3 (due to the changes of Sixth Sense (2) ) Starco will get an retirement, cause Corregidor has more options and is overall “stronger”. And Spiral Corps seems to be strong too, even if it’s weaker then Tohaa.
I actually think the minis are OK as well, and I'm on-board with the fluff and playstyle. I do, however, see the faction as a huge waste of potential, built more like an NA2 faction than a full-blown Sectorial Army. From what I can tell many people share this viewpoint; we're happy to have Ariadnan interstellar marines, but it would have been nice to actually get some interstellar marines! Just recycling a bunch of profiles from Caledonia and adding every Character in the catalog comes off as a bit lazy when for just a bit more effort on about 3-5 more new units we could have had a fun, extremely fluffy army to play around with.
In addition to the constant flow of forum salt, there is an unfortunate belief by some that pissing on things here in a rude or demanding tone will somehow influence design or release decisions. Those more extreme voices distort the tone of the discussion. Back on-topic, the Kosmoflot set looks fun. The Kosmosoldat and Volkolak are particularly great.
I really like the Ariadna half, it's grown on me. The Volkolak, Para and SAS are all gold, and the Rokots are tidy line troops. The Zenit, however, is a swing and miss for me. An ugly mismash of themes and lines. The gas mask is pretty ugly - if she had to have a 'cold, caclulating' mask of some kind, something akin to Speznatz would have been more appropriate and looked way cooler. I can't really see a sniper specialist wanting a honking great WW1 gasmask on their face while trying to take the shot!
This argument doesn’t really make sense, as creating Kosmoflot did not somehow take away from USARF/MRRF. I get being frustrated over those two Sectorials as I also play USARF, but that is not the fault of Kosmoflot. I get this part pretty well, but I think this is also a way for CB to introduce a new army while providing new sculpts for existing OOP sectorials. Say what you want but MRRF models are being re-sculpted and we will probably get more CHA models down the line. So many other Factions in the game share a good amount of their models already, and this is the first time Ariadna gets to experience this. Is it most exciting thing ever? Maybe not, but it does look/play well.
Indeed I dont see Kosmoflot as a threat to any Ariadna Sectorial. It definately plays different than any of the "classic" sectorials. TAK is in a realy good shape both rulewise and modelwise. USArianda is in realy good shape modelwise and rulewise it kinda works well just dont expect same playstyle like non-dawn armies CHA is in good shape rulewise definately lots of fun to play and solid counter to HI and TAG lists (which are kinda popular) with all the T2 ammunition (practicaly saying that the second wound is wasted stat against them). Model wise half of the range is realy good and the second half will be resculpted with Kosmoflot which is exactly what they needed (juts get new sculpts for the outdated pre-3D render models). MRRF kinda need whole range resculpted (now with new Paracomandos and Mirage-5 it will be easier), But their time will come. When Kosmoflot was released/anounced i was sceptical at first, but after nearly year of the rules existing I belive it will do good job for Ariadna as a whole.
Reading through here I think there is a slight disconnect between what it seems people were expecting from Kosmoflot and what they were designing them to be. Like, I think people expected either a traditional "space marine" sci-fi bent or an "retrofuture astronaut" design, both of which are cool ideas. However, I think the design intent was more "sailors but in space." I get it especially from the Rokkot designs. Also, I know it's not the most exciting but I actually like the sectoral design of mixing existing things together with a few new things as long as it has a strong theme or justification. It lets you have the same models in different armies and allows some of the same models to play and configure differently. It's kind of the whole appeal of NA2 for me that, they can take models that are underutilized in a faction and make them a centerpiece of a new sub-faction. Not everything needs to have a whole new line and, if it did, it would probably necessitate that they phase out other lines more frequently anyway. Like, I have always had the idea that, if they ever made a "Black Hand" Sectoral for Nomads, it makes more sense to have it work the same way. A small amount of unique units plus a bunch of stuff from other armies, put together in a way that plays different from their parent factions. I think there's potential in a lot of factions to have sub-factions of specialized sectorals levied from other sectorals for a specific thematic purpose and it would just add diversity to their playstyle.
I was really looking forward to the Sombra Miniature - but the pose of the miniature looks really, really awfull: huge Tactical Fantasy Stone Pillar, static pose but needs her right hand w/ Pistol extended to stabilize, 4 containers on her back each the size of her head. This pose looks even more silly than the Mukthar Doc miniature healing the ground. Hopefully I get good money for that miniature or I am able to salvage some parts of it to convert the new Intruder HMG into a decent looking Sombra. But I will never field this sillyness...
Apparently it all comes down to taste as well. For me, for example, the Sombra is the coolest looking mini of the whole box. I don't mind the canisters, I love the pose, I like sidearm loadouts, and I never understood what the problem is with tactical thingies. Same with everything else: Some here hate the overall design, others love it. Some love the Nomad half but not the Kosmoflot, others love Kosmo but not the Nomads. Some only want the pre-order exclusives, and here I am wanting everything but the pre-order exclusives. My only real gripe is with how giant that Rokot's rifle is. Were Ariadna rifles always this big?
I take solace in that the Sombra is the better version of him, The Zhencha looks a loot cooler looking!
New to Infinity, but I'm loving the look of most of this as a starting point. The Kosmoflot look pretty good. Some of those Nomad poses are straight up jank though
And this is another one of those matters of taste: I'm super happy they put four females in there, not least because I'm trying to build an all female Kosmoflot and I like the female Ariadna sculpts especially. I think they work well, look good, and want to see more :)
