HA! You just proved, in a manner most uncouth, that you're not! For verily, do those narrators and writers of prose so Dickensian find themselves compensated in a manner most ingenious. You may understand, dear reader, that their accounts find themselves increased fortnightly, but not in a salaried manner. Instead, they are paid on a per word basis. And thus, dear readers, you'll find the balance of this story in the next issue of this serial, to be publish in a week's time. You may find it available to be purchased at the most discerning of cobblers or public houses.
Where are cool samurai helmets like domarus and RIP haramaki? Round hats are ok for 1 unit or 2 but not everyone.
It seems to have been adopted as a bit of a sectorial aesthetic theme at this point, and to CB's credit it could be implemented in much worse ways. Its both cohesive and a little silly, I'm not personally a fan, wouldn't want to buy or paint them. But I wouldn't be put off seeing a force in conical hats across the table... as a vanilla Yu Jing player, I'll take it as my silver lining for all this ^_^. I wonder if the focus is just going to be that particular broad hat, or if there will be other references as well. Units like the Domaru already reference kabuto samurai helmets, will there be one in future referencing that basket-hat worn by those Buddhist flutist-monks?
So, Is Neko geting a resculpt or? Not sure how he stands next to new domaru? From pics doesn't seem too bad though, but still, more pictures would be nice. Anyone has comparasion?
That is the classic hat of the traveller. Who has it? Shikami, Tanko and Daiyokai. Tanko and Daiyokai are employed by Ikari company, so you can see they DO "travel". Shikami, on the other end, seems a simply aesthetic choice.
It seems like the current model is adequate for N3. Same with the Karakuri, which I was really hoping would get a redesign soon.
Though people are saying the hats were for peasants I kinda feel thats the point. They feel like PR branding for the uprising "we are the underclass and are in this together" and point to some of the new JSA's hypocrisy in claiming to represent the downtrodden JSA when they are just replacing one groups totalitarian control with another with the kempetai.
I have no clue how the Karakuri are considered "up to N3 standard." Nor do I particularly care. Less JSA resculpts means more releases for the rest of us.
So ill also revise the list -Tanto box (could be 3+ tinbot) -SWC for keistotsu -maybe a fresh batch of aragoto (also if they get a new profile) blister - kempetai MSV - 2nd seperate daiyokai? (though you can only take 1 and hes not armed so might be fine) unless there are any crazy profiles not shown yj could be done in 2 boxes and 1 blister pack
The new models all look pretty sweet, Keisotsu were desperately in need of an update tbh, hopefully there'll be a blister with the HMG and ML incoming shortly. Those forward deployment L2 ODD Ryuken are gonna be an absolute terror in SF. The new bike character is great (specialist!), though I'm fairly certain that the first swing with the scythe at speed is gonna cost her either the scythe or her shoulder. The Daiyokai looks decent. I kinda wish he had more CC ability, but he's super tanky for his points cost, and the multi-marksmen rifle looks great. Pretty excited overall, can't wait to try out the new mixed link teams.
Well, Carlos did mention new profiles for existing units previously, so it's possible additional blisters could drop to fill those out if necessary. Also, he did not include Shinobu or Saito in his list of stuff that's up to the N3 standard, so I'd bet you'll see resculpts of those in the next 12 months.
Folks: Those round conical helmets are NOT based on "rice hats" they are homage to the Jingasa or "Battle Hat" of the Ashigaru. The Jingasa (Battle Hat) started to become popular amongst Ashigaru at the end of the Sengoku Jidai to early Edo era. Traditionally a defensive helmet for they were first crafted from wood, leather, nerigawa, then iron and later steel. Progressively getting better as the Ashigaru grew in popularity on the battlefield. Almost always conical in shape, the Jingasa would deflect the blows of weapons out and away from the ashigaru wearing it. The Ashigaru Jingasa were traditionally lacquered in black and would bear the mark of their clans Mon or the mark of their unit (often painted in gold). Most clans would mark the Jingasa with the mark of their units so that they could be easily identified from a distance. The inside of the Jingasa was typically lined with hemp cloth, a small pad and four metal rings riveted inside. A cord would tie to the rings and loop down just below the ears. Another cord would then be passed through the loops and tie below chin securing the jingasa to the head. For those who don't know what an Ashigaru is: Ashigaru (足軽, "light [of] foot") were foot-soldiers employed by the samurai class of feudal Japan. Ashigaru formed the backbone of samurai armies in the later periods. The real change for the ashigaru began in 1543 with the introduction of matchlock firearms by the Portuguese. Almost immediately local daimyōs started to equip their ashigaru with the new weapon that required little training to use proficiently, as compared to the longbow which took many years to learn. As battles became more complex and forces larger, ashigaru were rigorously trained so that they would hold their ranks in the face of enemy fire. Since ashigaru's change to the professional soldier was advanced after Oda Nobunaga, (that's me) the ashigaru separated from the farmer gradually. When entering the Edo period, the ashigaru's position was fixed and the use of conscripts was abandoned for over two hundred years in Japan. Ashigaru were considered to be of the samurai class in some han (domains), but not in others. So they weren't always farmer conscripts either. Thanks for listening. Long live the rebellion!
I'd be surprised at those resculpts anytime soon, as they are still on the catalogue page. That catalogue should probably be the best indicator of what is being redone, not counting the profiles that got axed.
The "Ricehat", a Kansa, is also the classic feature for Ronin and "lone wolves" in Samurai pop culture. They appear quite naturally in Afro Samurai, Sword of the Stranger, Samurai Champloo as well as less elegant examples like Sucker Punch. Going rogue and betraying their former masters without allies seems like a good fit for that.
Seeing as Shinobu was the mini that got me interested in this game in the first place I really don't think it needs a resculpt. Saito on the other hand...
I am good with a shinobu resculpt, but yea the current saito is definitely not on my list of purchases so that a necessary one. are they resculpting the ninja's? - the new one is great.....The others not so much
Hoo boy. The point remains that for hundreds and hundreds of years they were either used first by farmers or second by peasants. Saying samurai wore them is like saying knights wore leather skullcaps. Sure they did, just like modern soldiers these days can wear baseball caps for all they care. But one is still designed for one thing and the other for something else. And either way, the literally hundreds of years of association has pretty firmly engraved that image in the world's mind as belonging to the peasants. Samurai kabuto, on the other hand, are a quite distinctly different shape, and CB has already tried to sort of mimic that with the Domaru, so they clearly understand the difference. So why the hell they'd continue to push the jingasa, I don't get :\ The inclusion of the hakodate on the tanko, AGAIN (hated it on the Domaru too) annoys me. What scifi character wears leather armor? :\ Any LOL at Bostria claiming Neko is up to N3 standards. Wtf? So they just want us to buy him more. *sigh*. I got into Infinity to play JSA two years ago when the Domaru first came out, and even then Neko was hideous in comparison. Everyone was sure a resculpt was on the way to bring him up to snuff. Now we have Bostria saying that in the fluff he 'got new armor' for the uprising...but we're still supposed to like the old model :\ Karakuri I've never been a huge fan of but at least they're to scale so, *shrug*, disappointing we wont get a resculpt but, whatever. Between Celty and the jingasa rice hats and no resculpt of Neko or the ninja (even though they already resculpted him for Red Veil...was that an accident? Wut??)...I don't care anymore lol. Byebye JSA. I'm starting to think you Yu Jing players actually got the better part of the deal out of this whole thing, as at least most of ISS is sweet and up-to-date :)
Except they don't. I actually asked on Quora Japan about exactly this topic, and most Japanese seem to either dislike the era or at least avoid it, for the same reason the country has become pacifist after WW2. Assuming they'd all want to go back to looking like samurai is about the same as assuming all Europeans want to go back to being Crusaders. Unlikely. When Japanese think of what they'll look like in future warfare they think of either Gundam or Ghost in the Shell (according to a number of my friends and more forum users). This whole space samurai-space ninja thing is purely western wish fullfillment. A close friend of mine works at a museum in Nagoya and she's complained numerous times about the 'creepy old guys' or 'creepy right-wing nationalists' who come in obsessed with samurai and tanks.
