Hello all! I am thinking of starting Ariadna as a army to join my o12 and shas. I am looking at either Kosmoflot or USARF. What are people's opinion on each Sectorial? which would you recommend?
Don't get close to USARF until they get a serious redesign. They were designed for N3 and have not been updated properly. Their design is just not applicable to N4, and it seems like they are going the MRRF way so who knows when are going to receive any attention. It could be 2 years or maybe 10+ I would personally recommend vanilla or TAK but maybe because I don't have that much experience with caledonia and kosmoflot.
Kosmoflot will be half the contents of Operation Crimson Stone coming out in August/September, which would be a nice springboard into collecting them. Despite dramatic hyperbole to the contrary USARF are still very playable in N4 if you use lists other than N3 style Grunt Spam, they're also a very complete and modern model range if you're looking to start them immediately.
I can't speak to Kosmoflot because I dislike playing proxies (personal preference; you do you everyone else) but yeah USARF is fine in N4 they're a little plodding (in Infinity terms) outside of Mavericks if you start entirely in your DZ. But I've run them with decent success in the few friendly games I've played of N4. I will say I think TAK is the better starting option as it has a greater variety of playstyles if it appeals to you at all.
Kosmoflot is probably the better choice because they are expecting major releases while USARF might not see much if anything for a while. I generally suggest taking a look at vanilla instead.
In general I agree. To the OP's question, Kosmoflot is definitely the better option. If you did want to transition to Vanilla, your Kosmoflot stuff is a lot more likely to see mileage in Vanilla than the USARF-unique units. For example, I play Paracommandos, Uxia, SAS, Bearpodes, Irmandinhos and Scots a lot more often than I play Airborne Rangers, Marauders, Minutemen, and Devil Dogs.
Given your other armies, I actually think USARF might be the more different and therefore most interesting. USARF is just fine in N4. They're not super-broad in selection of abulities, but you have O-12 and Shas to cover those other playstyles. Gotta disagree here: those USARF bikes are a holy terror, probably the best-value bikes in the game. MSV1 with smoke and a boarding shotty on a platform that fast is horrifying. Smoke, close, move in and let the opponent Dodge at -3 at best, then shoot them with templates. Nas-tay. And the 6-point Desperado with the assault pistols is a total terrorist now that he Dodges really well on the way in. I've taken out 60+ points with him in a turn due to his mobility and volume of shots.
I always wanted to run something silly based on this, with TTS I just might :D (playing open game, no 15 unit limit, ofc)
USARF are not very playable mainly due to ridiculously small number of anti-material CC weapons on units which makes them extremely bad for Looting and Sabotaging and Mindwipe missions in ITS - while a lot of other factions got many free d-charges in their lists
non-ITS play should not be taken seriously, ITS is the standard that is working well If there is an event coming and there are those missions you probably are not taking USARF because thats a bigger challenge than the usual charge into Countermeasures without hackers We play a tts league now and the next surprise mission is Mindwipe my next opp is USARF and I am playing Corregidor - his realistic options to blow up servers are Unknown Ranger (as if he needed more targets on himself), Rosie and Wild Bill, mine is LITERALLY my whole list except for two flashpulse bots, Daktari and Intruder; thats just comedy, we have preemptively said "welp" already and even going beyond that - having DA and EXP CC weapons is important to reliably kill in close combat, USARF high CC units that are not Cap America (Rangers, Van Zant, Desperadoes, Devil Dog) only have AP CCs
No, silly, I don't mean them, I mean the whole silent majority who don't come here, to Facebook or various Discords and just play for fun at home, FLGS and so on. Speaking as if competetive tournament style ITS play was some kind of default with forced scenarios is hilarious. It's not. People play whatever scenarios they want or without scenarios or make up their own.
However, even when playing for fun, at home or at stores, it's still ITS missions. The only time I've ever seen someone not play one of the ITS missions was when i play my annual 1000 point game against my buddy. I've never seen anybody play anything other than an ITS mission and i live in one of the largest metas in the US. While i'm not saying that everybody does only play ITS, to say the majority don't is a little silly.
That would still need a citation. The original claim is that majority of players play ITS and I challenged that. This claim needs to have some statistical underpinning or it's just making stuff up on the go. To the contrary, ITS is a set of rules: - the existence of which people need to even know about in the first place - people need to use internet (FB/Discord/Forum, etc.) as their source of Infinity stuff - people need to be able to find as a separate document (on CB homepage) - people need to care about enough to download - people need to care about enough to actually use in their beer & pretzels games - even if they do, people need to care enough about using the current not previous ITS seasons - not to mention people who have started out with Code One and have not upgraded to the full ruleset yet Ergo, because of those limiting factors alone, players of N4 ITS Season 12 will have to be the minority rather than the majority of all community. QED.
Can anyone of the veteran players explain the difference in playstyle between USARF and Kosmoflot (and maybe TAK if the thread owner does not mind)? Thx Gesendet von meinem ASUS_I01WD mit Tapatalk
If someone doesn't care enough to click on a PDF, choose a mission and use it, they probably don't care enough to try and figure out how the hell they're going to play the game with no mission. The game gives you pre-made missions that are easy to find and use, it's a lot more effort to avoid them lol.
