Can someone give (or point to) an example of good tactics for using TF, I'm just not getting it.
Easy example would be through smoke, but then it's just a poor-man's (slower) MSV1..?
In other cases it seems like you'd use it against hard to hit targets (a Mimetism sniper or something)
    - but since it's an Entire Order, you have to spend an order getting into LoF to the target...
    - which opens you up to an ARO from said Mimetism sniper...
    - which probably means you'll die, never getting to use Triangulated Fire...

So what's the "trick" to using it?

    Cheers!

Triangulated Fire is a circumstantial tactic, but useful when shooting a target with mimetism and outside its optimal range.
For example, your opponent has a Swiss HMG, Achilles Spitfire or similar in cover, so, they impose a -9 plus range modifiers. With a simple Daleth or Regular you can shoot them at +100 cm with 3 dice at 8/9 against 1 dice at 12 (minus range modifiers), not bad when your unit costs 17/13 points and your opponent's costs around 62/75 points. And a better unit like Zulu moves (camo) and shoots more efficiently (3 dice at 10 vs 1 at 6).

An option in N4 is to use dodge to get into position without triggering an ARO. Not exactly order efficient, but far less risky than going for a face to face for which you wanted to use triangulated fire in the first place.

One important change in N4 is that you can Dodge and move in the active, and the resulting movement will not trigger AROs. That is one way to "finish" the order in plain sight without getting shot.

The easy example of through smoke wouldn't work with Triangulated Fire on it's own, you'd need to be able to draw LoF through the smoke already with a Multispectral Visor. The Triangulated Fire on its own doesn't let you ignore the zero-visibility zone, just the MODs to the attack.

It can be hard, making it situational but there are a few ways to do it:

    - Dodge into position
    - use a marker state to get into position
    - use another troop blocking with their silhouette to get into position (then move the blocking trooper)
    - use white noise to get into position vs msv troops
    - Deploy (often from reserve) into the position you want to shoot from.

The last can sonetimes be useful to remove a 'Tower' defense trooper (like a HI missile / rocket launcher) from beyond both your effective weapon ranges. For example Pi Well at 48" Triangulated FOing a piece like Phoenix. Then, guided.

one thing someone mention to me is its a great way to shoot into cc since the mod is only -3 and wont trigger friendly fire apparently.

I think that was true in N3, but not in N4 I think. Because in N4 if you miss you auto hit your own trooper.

Yup. Triangulated fire into melee in N4 is only worthwhile if you aren't already in good range and won't stop you hitting friendlies.

It is kinda funny that shotguns at close range are one of the more less bad ways to shoot into CC.

Also when the engaged unit doesnt have mimetism

Yes but that one gives engaged unit a chance to dodge out
