So I got the bright idea to start a new faction and landed on Spiral Corps thanks to a buddy of mine who owns a local game shop. I am the proud owner of a starter box along with a greif operator and the spec op that came with the starter box. After reading the beginner info from meikyoushisui I went ahead and picked up another Taagma schemer, a box of Chaksa's, and a box of Kauuri's. I've got some building and painting to do and quickly! I've promised my buddy a game once it's done.

This is where I'm stuck, building a decent list for a blind draw scenario. Is there a typical base list most folks run and then build off of that or???? All I do know is he's got quite the O-12 army so there is that...

For me, I usually start with an AP Marksman Draal, Tri-Core Taagma, Kaeltar (21 points), Sniper Taagma LT, and 2 Chaksa Auxiliar FTOs with a Diplomatic Delegate added on.

This gives you the fabled power of the Tri-Core Draal, the Infamous "hidden" Taagma Sniper Triad, and a Bomb/Mate on a WIP 14 Specialist. It also takes care of 7 of your 15 orders.

From there the lists can vary wildly depending on scenario and what I feel like playing that day. Unlike Tohaa, Spiral isn't all that great at running multiple fireteams; we lack generic "filler" infantry like Sakiels or Makauls, so we often spend more points on solo-units like Jaan Staar, an Igao, Clipsos, Greifs, etc.

I recently played an introductory 200 point game of Supremacy; this was what my list looked like:

If you include a Draal, a Kriigel SGL, a Taagma Sniper, a Kaeltar, and a handful of camo/impersonation units, you're generally going to be alright.

Just be sure to use the right unit for the right job; if the Taagma Sniper can't shoot it, maybe the Draal can. Or an Impersonator can get behind it. Or a Clipsos can surprise shot it. Or maybe you smoke it off with the Kriigel. Or you could use Pheroware on it through a wall.

We've got a lot of tricks up our sleeves, so make sure you've got as full a hand as possible.

Is there a case where I need to make sure I have any of the named characters available for missions, I know with JSA there's several auto-includes due to what they bring to the table.

There aren’t any auto-include characters, but 21 pt. Kaeltar, Taagma Sniper, and Taagma Tri-Core are as close to auto-include as you can get. The Diplomat also comes extremely close as for 5 points you really can’t ask for a more useful piece.

Neema is very good but pricey and hackable in a mostly non-Hackable faction (though resilient against it); Jaan Staar is amazing but sometimes you reach for a cheaper Impersonator. Aelis is... expensive.

If you bring a Tri-Core with a gunner and specialist, a second more defensive Triad, and a handful of solo pieces you’ll do alright.

My best advice is put together something and try it out. See what pieces you like, which ones work for you. It’s a pretty versatile faction and a lot of fun to play.

Nah, not really. Neema, Aelis, and Armand are all wonky profiles with some niche applications (if any at all), and Jaan is one you will want frequently but doesn't have a general release sculpt yet.

Phew! That makes this way easier and way harder all at the same time. Right now I'm waiting for a Kaeltar specialist to get delivered and then a 3 day speed painting session to get them all ready to go!
