I wanted to design my table to fit the theme for my Tohaa, which is a blend of Dune, District 9, and Idiocracy. After gathering buildings and a whole lot of scatter I decided that the layout would be a high tech facility with a small town and slums beginning to butt up against it. I painted up the first building up as a covert outpost. Dilapidated on the outside and state of the art inside.
The next one I did as a small taxi stand, and tried experimenting with cut out bits from a plastic doily as an airbrush mask. It was not fine enough for me to get as clean registration as I wanted, and was a lot of work. I figured it was a cool effect, but would be too time consuming if I wanted to ever finish my table. I added some rain gutters above the doors frames and the sign was cut out of a flew layers of plasticard.
I figured in the future there would be better accessibility to a rooftop than just a ladder, and a friend had just purchased a laser cutter, so I made out a template for a lift. I figured this would be the cafe where people would go to catch up on the latest Aresteia matches.
Brilliant, brilliant work. The commitment to detail is amazing. This table is going to feel so real, it's going to almost be a shame to just play toy soldier skirmishes on it.
I painted this one up as a medical research facility. I also added Peter Potamus' rules for success from Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law as posters to keep those office workers motivated.
These walls round out pretty much everything. I have other billboards bud did not take photos of them separately. I have a few shots of the full table I need to clean up a bit before posting.
