To make Riotshields different than Nanoscreen but equally cool, they'd only provide cover in a 180 arc, instead of 360. I'd love to have those!
This sounds like a rules headache, as unless someone is directly in front of you they can easily draw a LoF line to your back arc. Probably better to avoid rules bloat/headaches and just have it count as Nanoscreen.
I don't like the sound of Storm Shields in Infinity, but it doesn't sound all that difficult. It sounds like basically; if you see them, you get cover.
I was doing some list writing today and tried to write a list that really leaned into the strengths and just didn’t even try on the weaknesses. Core Link: Hector, Beta(Doc), Tian Gou KHD Haris: Beta(Spitfire), Parvati, Psycop KHD Peeled: HMG TR Andromeda SMG Fuzzbot x2 If you are going second, which I think we agree is a worst case scenario, you can put them into the fireteams as above, put one on each flank, and use the TR bot, Andromeda, and Fuzzbots ONLY to cover the approaches to the fireteams. This requires completely giving up long range ARO and any sort of midfield control. It’s literally hide in the corners and castle. If they come for your fireteams it will take a lot of orders to get there and deal with them and they certainly won’t have enough to deal with both. And, if they fail, they will be over stretched and vulnerable to counter attack from the other fireteam. If they go for objectives, it’s not great for us but then the aren’t stripping orders from us and we can move out from whichever side is most advantageous. Even armies with good ARO, likely can’t cover both flanks. If you go first, you have the units to be able to build a single five man core pain train with Hector and just go ham on the opponent.
