1. Just patient lol. I would probably spend about 4 hours per evening for 5 days on a larger mini. 2. You are probably right in saying that I’m not quite stippling dots. I’m also hatching (which uses lines). But all up it’s a bit of both. I suppose I’m “scratching.” What I’m doing is using watered down paint and both dotting and doing small lines using very light brushstrokes. I’m using a highlight color and adding it mostly to the top areas where light would hit the model. This is a very different technique to wet blending which gives you smoother results but is more time consuming to do. However “scratching” gives you a nice textured look to a surface :-)
Awesome miniatures ! That's a lot of work. I like the presence of blue / gray in your minis. I'm especially impressed by the Daoyings o.O Thanks sharing these super paints and give a tutorial about that. +1 for the great photographic quality
Kaldstrom Yu Jung. Next project prepped and ready to paint: Happy to start the new financial year with this cool project. Let the painting commence
Excited to see those finished! Your "prep" already seems to cover a lot of things. What's your process for that? Looks like base layers for every color + bases?
Yeah my prep covers, cleaning and building model, undercoat, base coat, shading wash, and drybrush base. I usually do this in batches because I don’t need to pay much attention to each model. The group above I did in dribs and drabs over about 5 days (plus building the pano guys) Although the models are table top ready at this point, now I’m ready for the ‘real’ painting to begin. :-). I just hate looking at piles of metal or primed only models on the shelf, so now that they are ready to paint it is less daunting to get started on them one by one.
Dude. Your "prep" is my "wow I did an incredible job this time!". I love looking at your minis, but it also hurts a bit sometimes. xD
thanks lol. The prep stage for me is tabletop ready. I didn’t have to concentrate too hard and could batch paint them over a couple of days. But now each one will take about 8 hours of concentration and precision painting to finish.
INFINITY YU JING WHITE BANNER ARMY: Zhanshi Been a while since I posted new stuff. Did these guys around September but been waiting for new lighting setup to arrive in the post. Anyways I think I have improved my picture quality by using the lights in conjunction with my humble camera phone. Zhanshi Humble troopers but warm with their snow jackets. Painted them pretty close to studio colours, but I have dropped the green and gone with black to match my Invincible Army troops. I like the lady with the hood the most. I've spent most of yesterday trying to paint/recover a Red Veil Zhanshi, mostly mangling the paint job on the face yet again. Don't know if this is inspirational or de-motivational - either way, I'm loving the results!
I like your simple white. I tried to go with a blueisch offwhite and now my coats don't look white at all :( Please more of where that came from :)
ah, yeah I’m not sure blue would work. For white I use a base coat of light grey, shading of medium grey, then layers of thin white to highlight.
INFINITY YU JING WHITE BANNER ARMY: Hùndùn Ambush Unit Hùndùn Ambush Unit New girl on the block. The N4 covergirl. Her helmet is my favorite feature, faceless and high tech. Painting texture on the coat was fun.
YU JING WHITE BANNER ARMY: Guiláng Skirmisher Guiláng Skirmisher Nice model to paint. Simple design who's shotgun does all the talking. Cloak was fun to paint.
Great stuff Archangeleong! It looks like you get more praise and feedback on the faction forum than the miniature forum. I like your white a lot I feel it’s better done than mine.
Aaaah, your paint job really inspired me to pick up Kaldstrom and do my own version, but I promised myself to finish my current minis first before buying more. I am 4 figs away from finishing my current Yu Jing collection, and a whole CHA army that I bought second hand. On top of that Defiance will be arrive in the next month so I am going to have a huuuuge backlog.
I know how you feel. I got Defiance coming too. I had no plan for a White Banner army but got caught up in the hype because the minis were so good. I pushed myself through hard discipline to get them all painted over a month or so.
