I'm thinking we'll see very minor changes to what CHA is now... My picks: [edited because galwegians and Cameroonians actually are in N4] Mormaer changes probably just getting NWI but I hope for a greater upgrade than that We might see some new link options such as Grey's being able to wildcard into any link As far as how strong the army will be, I think it will be weaker than N3 but not unplayably bad. We still have some very nice options for mulcing TAGs and HI. I especially like the Uxia and SAS forward observer profiles with D-charges for this. If I'm right, it does beg the question why they bothered to introduce Kosmoflot because overall its going to be a very similar army
I'd like, (but might not get!); Mormaers to get a decent upgrade, something like NWI and Specialist Operative. (NCO would be nice, but might be too much). Plus extra link options, mainly allowing 1 in any Scots Guard fireteams. Wallace to be full wildcard; in both profiles. Greys to get NWI as well. Wolff, bounty hunter, to be available; counting as a Wulver for fireteam composition. A Scots Guard LT load-out that isn't obvious. (An issue with Kosmoflot and Ariadna as well). 112 to be allowed in a Volunteer fireteam. McMurrough to get CC24/25 and NBW. (More like wishlisting, sadly!)
I don't have the book on hand atm, but I think Wolff's fluff says he's a nomad, whether or not he was even born on Dawn, or if his mother just had a thing for furry guys etc I don't think was made clear... Edit: he's merovingian.
I really hope they get 4-4 move as well. I would bring them more now if they were 4-4. I very much like the T2 x-visor profile but I can't move it meaningfully as 4-2, Ideally I want it moved up and in suppressive.
4-4 and the same points would probably come at the cost of being hackable, but I don't think that would fit the Mormaer, they're supposed to be basically the same system as the grey, V kazaks, Minutemen etc, but with more metal plates on top, not a diet kosmosoldat...
that's true. but on the other hand it is definitely costed too high for what it does. 9 more points and 1 swc more than a grey and he takes a move penalty for +2 armor. with new crits I can see this being a bit better but I will need to see how this plays. I want to see it being different than a grey. I want to have a reason to take it over or alongside the grey. Grey's get that frenzy discount that doesn't do anything but make it cheaper so it is hard to compare, but still doesn't feel great. Did you ever use mormaers? if so, how did you use them?
I never used them. I really wat to, but they do not fit to anything for me :( In theory you could do Harris with AP HMG, T2 Rifle and Grey with T2 Boarding Shotgun but they were sooo slow. Not to mention the price. As many people before realize, Grey with HMG was doing basically the same thing for lower cost (I know, I know, Greys have Frenzy), but still... I hope Mormaers will not be a Kosmosoldat v2 (or junior version). They need something to shine. 4-4 movement is a must, Wildcard would be more then welcome, some kind of Specialist Operative or CoC would help them as well. Now I really don't know what to expect from them.
If they kept the same rough cost and got 4-4 move, NWI(with greys keeping dogged), and maybe x-visor baseline, i would at least have To think about my choices. I would even consider these guys if the cost went up to around 50 for that.
I think to make Mormaer different, they could make it have NWI, 4/4 and maybe every profile has either MSV1 or an X-Visor. I'd keep it non-hackable. You could also potentially make it better in CC than the other Ariadna heavy infantry, by giving it CC20 plus and either Martial Arts or Natural born warrior and an AP CCW. I would also welcome wildcard but that might be stepping on the Grey Rifle's toes a bit I think a profile like that could fairly be costed around the price of a veteran Kazak/ maybe slightly more. HI have been getting discounts in N4 after all. In reality, I bet they'll just give it 4/4 and NWI and remain otherwise unchanged though
Cameronian Duo or Haris, as mentioned earlier, would be golden. They don't even become regular in a link now, so without Wallace they'd inevitably have to break apart as they reach the enemy battle line which seems pretty spot on to what I'd expect giant angry werewolves to do. Hell, Cameronian in certain links. Like "one Cameronian may join any link containing William Wallace". Is that good? Dunno. But its certainly metal as fuck. Honestly I think Cameronian linkability would be a fantastic and unique selling point for an army whose identity was possibly the most invested in spam of all the armies. Marksman Rifle Cateran, for a cheaper ARO piece. I love unique profiles in sectorials and there are a couple of sniper variations that could be very cool here. Maybe even Decoy, or minelayer. Give the faction a bit more solid of an ARO game given it lacks mines currently. Mormaer a SIL5 ARM 6 1 W infantry with a big fucking Axe or something. Everyone will want to play that. Or they won't, but you'll make them play it. Like the Gwailos, it wouldn't even exist in vanilla. Make those vanilla cupcakes jealous, make them crave the Mormaer by giving it a T2 CCW. Or just turn it into a blackjack style mini-TAG/maxi-HI, with teseum plating to make it hilariously sturdy. SAS (Infiltrate +6) option as a back-up Uxia. Seems pretty bad but would not be unfair to reinforce one of the things this army is good at. Or an unoptimised minelayer SAS just so mines exist, even if they are less effective. Add Anaconda. I know you all want it, and its been hanging tantalizingly out of reach for so long. Or give them old Scarface, the new one would definitely be OP in this faction.
I will love to see the Caledonian Justicar as a playable troop. Our scot equivalent to Voronin. With some level of Guardian (because he always carries a bodyguard), and interesting LT advantages, like Strategos, +X command tokens, etc... Mormaers: With NWI and maybe a MSV L1 in a single profile will be good. And change the volunteers Fireteam so the Mormaer can join instead the Grey Scot guards. Stay like in Kosmoflot. they are pretty nice right now. Wulvers: It would be nice to add an HMG to that core, but no complaints.
I used Mormaers quite a bit in N3, mostly as the Lt T2 Rifle profile, and stuck him at the back on suppression fire. Didn't bother with the Haris link at all, as I tended to prefer that to go to my Wulvers, as a flanking option for my core Volunteer fireteam, (with that inevitable Grey HMG). They tended to sit unused and well protected, so being 4-2 never really bothered me. On the few occasions they did something, it was normally to Move and Shoot something with their rifle. So, would be OK with them staying as 4-2, (to distinguish them from the other HI), but they do need some upgrades; NWI as a minimum IMHO. I'd favour; NWI Specialist Operative on all profiles, (as they seem the sort of unit that likes to think they can do anything, even push buttons!) Non-Lt loadouts get NCO or Chain of Command. ARM6. Leave it non-Hackable. Linkable with at least the Scots Guard and/or Volunteers; full wildcard might be going too far, as I doubt they'd join the Wulvers or Galwegians, (if Wallace was Lt). Whilst it'd be nice to X-Visor or MSV across all profiles as well, this is likely to be too much. Can't see them being that good in CC myself, but a Heavy Pistol would be handy.
I think Move 4-2 is something of the past. No unit that I have looked at has that anymore. good riddance. therefore, I am sure Mormaers will be 4-4 as well. I think they should have Immunity to shock and AP, that's it. Of course, they should at least keep dogged. NWI would be a dream come true, but then we could almost call them Veteran Kazaks, and that would be boring. Mormaers were useful in some circumstances, especially when you could link them with other profiles. I agree it was always annoying to see those expensive warriors go down because ARM 5 does not protect them from my stupid dice rolls.
Ok, I failed to notice that. That makes it even more remarkable that tankhunters and many others now have 4-4.
Then Kosmosoldats and Volkolaks are Veteran Kazaks V.3 and V.4?? Veterans Still have mimetism, 6th sense and veteran rule. I think they are unique enough to make mormaer NWI without overlapping him
Profil wise Mormaner even with NWI would be far enought from Vet.Kazaks that the unit feals different, you would nearly allways pick Vet.Kazak in Vanila in that case. The mimetism -3, Veteran and SS skills "makes" the Vet.Kazak not the pseudo 2W platform. For CHA making Mormaners NWI+Immunity Shock would be enought to be played reguraly. for Vanila you kinda need to push them up to see play over Vet.Kazaks in some scenarios. That could be done by some unique skills to them on the pseudo 2W platform for example NCO, Tactical Awarness, Specialist operative on all loadouts and so on.
Take Yujing who have several HI profiles, but all of them bringing something different. I bet that CB can also do that to the Ariadna HI with NWI Shock Immune stats.
With how hard the Minutemen got shit on in their update. I'm extremely doubtful that the Mormaer is gonna get any love either. Though if he does I'll be even more bitter over the minuteman snub. @prophet of doom the Ratnik is also 4-2 once he is injured. Strangely the blackjack isn't. Though I feel that is an error
ah shit what a piece of junk. Well, now my dream became reality and the ratnik has a B3 heavy rocket launcher.
