I am pretty bummed about the change in the Corregidor background

Although the whole "brains in jars" sounds grim, I find it kinda funny how everyone batshit crazy about the unborn kids. The fluff says that they buyout malformed by radiation exposure fetuses before the abortion and then grow them to something useful. Technically, these kids would never live a normal life on the ships anyway and thanks to generous rulers on tunguska they can have 'kind of' life.
Also, if I'm not mistaken, little kids tend to learn much faster than the adults, so in short time we can have a pretty big number of adequately trained soldiers that literally cannot die for real on a battlefield without anyone going to waste. A win-win in my view.

No, I don t think so. Shades of grey does not mean everything is dark.

Corregidor are not a shiny perfect society, just a society that (according to old fluff) tries to be better against the odds of a capitalist human sphere. They have to compromise to survive and appease to the capitalists to a degree.

But writing that the ship brutalises its workers because they demand to work in safety and dignity just ruins the whole story. Then Corregidor is a capitalist exploiter just like everyone else. What s the point of the story then? I lost all interest.

This is the same society that initially funded itself by auctioning human beings to the highest bidder. Nomads were never the good guys

Yes ofc, just depends who you're asking.

I'm not sure Infinity has "good guys" - just lots of perspectives of individuals - groups - governments.

Taking the lore too seriously especially when you have to pay attention to who is recording what when you read it is certainly important - its hard to trust the information because of the nature of its writing.

    Its all shady.

So in other words, a socialist system immediately became an oppressive Anti-worker shithole.

They protect their workers from OTHER factions because they are a valued resource, not because they are some sort of worker's paradise. They sell their workers as contractors, and do the same with their military. If you can't or won't benefit the ship you get ejected. They work together for continued survival, not an ideal. They aren't fighting capitalism at all, they are capitalists who just so happen to not have room for luxuries. They are simply fighting against Aleph control and their ship falling apart. Their conditions suck, they are just used to it.

The Nomad sourcebook for the RPG has a lot of info.

"Brutalizes"? Strikes (on a *spaceship*) devolved into riots, which, well... yeah, less room for sentimentality... and, seriously, at this point, any pearl clutching over a new particular of the fluff is kind of interesting.

Corridor is now X because some X happens on the ship is narrow minded anyway. If it was a perfect hivemind there'd be no use for vigilante bandits.

that Corregidorians work together for survival does not mean that there is no ideal in play. No, they are not fighting capitalism, because they can't. They try to carve themselves an existence within it without being slaves. There will be a reason why PanO and Yu Jing hate Corregidor: because it represents hope. Capitalists don't want their workers to see that there can be another way.

I don't share your ideas about Corregidor, but I accept that it is a valid way to interpret the source material. I just don't understand why the Nomads are described as anarchists in the fluff, then. The colours of the Nomad nation also wouldn't make any sense.

I dunno. Maybe you are right and I am left to think that a narrative that does not offer any hope is kind of dull.

Wish I could get hold of that sourcebook. thanks for the advice.

No one ever thought that Corregidor was perfect. There is definitely enough problematic shit going on to make it realistic. I wouldn't want Corregidor to be perfect, that would ruin the immersion.

No, the story of Corregidor is rather how a shithole became something worth fighting for by adopting socialist ideals. And the struggle is far from over. That's a narrative I can relate to. I don't really enjoy a shithole stays a shithole because everyone is shit and the shit is constantly in a shitstorm.

Yea...that's not what they are about. It's an authoritarian dictatorship. People can have individual property, they just don't because they don't have space for it. The ship is described as being crowded urban slums where people have to share space. They work for money, some contract with mega corps. Money and resources are everything to them, it's just scarce. I don't know why you think they are about workers rights, or supporting the little guy, etc.

    -RPG Supplement

Corregidor was LITERALLY built on the slave trade and blood money. Gangs fight over supplies and space. Making money is a huge thing. It's why they have so many mercs, bounty hunters, and prospectors. There is nothing communist about the ship other than, "if we don't all at least try to keep it running in our spare time we die, either through system failure or being voided". They protect their labor force like you would protect your property, and then those laborers literally have to pay for the air they breath on the mothership when they come back.

It is a capitalist authoritarian dictatorship that runs on one philosophy. If it's not dangerous to the whole ship and you don't make too much noise go ahead and do whatever. Just don't step out of line.

I don't think anyone sees the red audit as something acceptable. It certainly is a skeleton in Corregidor's closet, just like cooporating with the crime lords of Tunguska.

The red audit is described as an evil born out of necessity. It was part of the bloody birth pangs of a new society, to use Marx's terminology. The part that most of the victims were hardened criminals does not justify what was done to them. It is a very grim tale indeed.

I can relate to the Yu Jing players who were upset when the Uprising book came out. Having your faction described as human rights abusers and tyrants is not nice. It is funny how everyone has no problem with playing the evil guys in fantasy but then gets upset when in a sci fi setting such as Infinity "evil" is described in realistic terms.
