Dear CB, what should I do with my TWO DaoFei HMG minis?

Dao Fei has always been in IA, their fluff blurb:

Supposedly IA was finished and ready to go in 2017, @Mahtamori correct me if I'm wrong there.

ye I though it was that part, which came out in n3 book? which means that was from 2014, when the book came out (not sure which month, but add in that they needed to write it and plan the fluff in it, lets say + 6 months?) that is over 3 years befor IA was finish (if that was 2017) so that something changed in thous 3 years, is no surprise to me

Oh it predates that, pretty sure it goes back to their N2 sculpt. My assumption is they fucked something up and that the original IA was very very different, given they also showed the N3 Tiger Dossiers when they got the Red Veil sculpt as being IA as well.

looking at the miniatures, I think that Dao Fei fits better in White banner with that camo cloak for winter theme, while Hac Tao being so plain fits better to IA Military look. but thats my Taste.

But my main thing here is. can we still hold that against CB? do they have to stick to things they wrote so far back in time? can they never change any lore that is put out in books?

That was the rumour at the time. I've seen accounts that IA was receiving testing and alterations until shortly before release, though.

I do own both HMG and Spitfire Daofei, and I found Spitfire to be better choice for it's ranges. But that doesn't mean they have to cut HMG profile. There are some people with different playstyles that HMG suits better, and it is quite new and amazing looking miniature that just got deleted for looks like no reason.
But I'm more sad about KHD Hac Tao. I know there is normal HD profile that can use the mini but KHD was my most used Hac Tao and bow it's gone :(

They don't have to stick to anything. But yet again it's problem with communication and hiding information. They knew what their fluff said, they knew people were expecting daofei and tigers in IA and they didn't say a word. And on top of that Daofei fluff in Kaldstrom book is still the same. Over a year after IA release they didn't put any effort to change it, almost like it's on purpose to taunt this mythical YJ salt.

I think that might've been intentional on the KHD Hac Tao. With KHDs becoming way way less lethal than N3 KHDs, and Fairy Dust now basically adding 3 BTS we were looking at a BTS 9 KHD being very hard for a Damage 14 normal ammo type program to hurt especially with 2 wounds

there was a list over who took what unit in most ITS lists, did that one sort out specific profiles? would be cool to see actually numbers over HMG vs spitfire. this also opens up a new design space for a long range camo unit, but who knows the reasons for it. how old is the actually mini? was in the beyond red veil so max 2 years old? also might be getting added into a full action pack with red veil? or is it removed from store?

The ITS data didn't include profile breakdowns. The mini was late 2017 so about 3 years old.

Obviously White Banner not in that data because it’s from before the Sectorial was added, but in generic Yu Jing the Spitfire was in 7.4% of lists and the HMG in 1.7% of lists.

looking at this from their prespectiv, how do you read how "hyped" people were on Daofei/tiger in the list. maybe there was some posts on forum/facebook(3-5 people maybe)? I dont remember how big it was, I think most was just excited for a full HI sectorial? so how much focus do you put into checking this? to see if its worth explaining in detail. or to just leave it to show on release day? how many people did get really annoyed by it?

We were actively advising forum newcomers to buy the models on these forums in the weeks leading to IA going live. Personally I think CB should've let everyone know as soon as they locked in the units being moved out. People probably still would've been annoyed but not as much, communication is a show of respect.

The forums obviously don't represent everyone but the reaction to the units missing in action was poor and it was amplified by their perceived replacements having some controversial design decisions.

Just to get a perspective on that @Arkiemon , assuming IJW's data is the same as mine our sample size is miniscule which isn't represented by taking raw stats on overall list submissions. The Dao Fei was only picked 59 times according to what I've got. We're not talking about a difference of hundreds of picks between the profiles, more like 6 picks versus 30.

ye I knew it was very low numbers, but you sorta see maybe why they removed it? also, thous numbers are basicly befor the dao fei spitfire was released? so all 36 used the HMG miniature or other proxy for it.

The fluff for the daofei and the tiger wasn't changed. In the kaldstrom booklet the blurb for the daofeis are described as a members of the Invincible army. It would've been an opportunity to change that but it wasn't done.
I am okay with the daofei in its own sectorial. But that the fluff wasn't even changed for the kaldstrom booklet is kinda sloppy work.

The argument lends towards there's no point removing it so why piss people off by removing it. It wasn't impacting game balance, people were using it, and trying to argue we should remove it because not enough people were using it is stupid because there are plenty of models with even lower usages. Sun Tze was picked 2 times, should we delete him from the game just to piss off those 2 people?

Having the profile there doesn't hurt anyone and costs nothing to maintain. Why shouldn't people who had/used the model complain? And why did they choose the HMG profile and not spitfire for BRV anyway?

what I think is that it originally dident fit with the theme/idea how they saw the Daofei profil being used, but since the miniature was so new at the time, they dident want to remove it then, but n4 being a fresh start. Its a good time. And I dont think they remove stuff for giggles. Its more of removing bloat. If beyond red veil goes away. To make room for sku. That might be one reason. Having fewer profiles which sorta do the same. Make design space for the future. And again goes back to, when should they remove a profile? Leave it in the game forever? So you got like 3 units thats pretty much the same but one will always be better. Just because? As a example
