Not sure if it's about culture... It can also be about one's personal preferences. Also, it's not as simple as "somebody enjoys stories and games about war = is of militaristic and violent mindset". I tend to like military-themed fiction, I like fantasy with some fighting and even battles... and yet, in real life, I tend to be of forgiving nature and don't even like arguing. And I'm certainly not any kind of warmonger when it comes to politics... True, but note that even Avatar has some good fighting sequences. It's not like Asian martial arts weren't an inspiration for that show. So, they do have appeal even to that show's creators and audience Of course, having a child and thinking on what that child should be allowed to watch / read / play makes one careful about this stuff. But we're talking about us as adults here... Obviously, nobody says that a child should be allowed to play Infinity or WH40K... Exactly. War, battles etc. are deeply ingrained into great many cultures. It's not like only a small group of cultures enjoys stories about martial prowess, while the rest rejects them. This kind of mythology really is universal or nigh-universal, I think. And really, it's not like having a militaristic and violent mindset is a prequisite to enjoying such stories. Was Tolkien a proponent of wars? And yet, he wrote about battles, orc-slaying etc. in Lord of the Rings... The Szarekh - BunnyBot connection. That's all I'm saying. ;)
Speaking of Warhammer, I kinda wish more people took inspiration from the attitude of the Sigmarxism crowd and similar groups, even if they aren't in perfect alignment with most folk's political preferences. Don't like the fluff of your particular group? Then paint up your dudes in counter-narrative themes cause they're your little dudes! Don't like the Space Marines being awful theocratic imperialists? Paint them up in trans pride colors and throw some feminist symbols on their flags. Don't like USAriadnan desperados unintentionally dog-whistling Confederate biker style? Paint the bikes up like the Mexican flag and make the cape a serape. (Did this. Looks great.) I'm not saying there is no need to discuss the imagery used in war games. But at least for the individual player who has some issues with their faction, it is a pretty easy problem to literally and metaphorically paint over.
I sold my TAK half of ColdFront pretty quickly myself. Who wants an army without tech in a scifi game? :-p
Amusingly, they have the new "your army is painted: 10 points" thing, but not sure how much leeway is in "battle ready". Probably not a big deal... To bring it back to topic, given Infinity's proxy rules and such, it's easy enough to substitute a figure that is more to your liking for a role, in case 66 irks. If I get this Hatail for instance, it'll probably just be as a deflated Kiel-saan. It's the passing judgement stuff that I get tired of, or constant negativity for a game. Either way, I'll stop going too far from the topic of the thread.
I for one like the Kilts the Caledonians are wearing. I can understand some people would dislike them but those Kilts have been good conversion bits for my Aleph Romans. Sounds like we are alike except the military I read about is historical.
You would think that CB would just do 4 Operation boxes to cover the main factions going head to head but instead they have hit the reset button and are doing a second lap it seems. I'd not be surprised if they kept releasing a new Operation box in the coming years as a regular thing. Perhaps when they rerelease sectorials after a rework those will appear in a new Operation box. I can see them easily doing that to generate hype and money.
Their new plan is to split the Operation boxes into single faction Action Packs after a year. They've already done it with Wildfire O-12 and Shasvaasti, Icestorm Nomads, Coldfront TAK in October, and Red Veil Haqq and Coldfront OSSSSS at some point. Come Adepticon 2021 we'll see the new Operation box (almost certainly Corregidor vs Kosmoflot) and Kaldstrøm will be split into separate boxes. This means there will always be a "current" 2 player starter, and slowly build good catalogue of single faction Action Packs.
Damn every time when something new pop in. The same fellas need to be offended by minis or CB management or whatever BS. Its boring keep your filings to yourself. Or start moaning or debate what CB should do or not, in off topic. That betrayal characters looks good. But do I need two Ko Dali ? Probably not, but... :)
Do the people on this forum even play infinity? I have to scroll through pages of trash to find anything relevant . monstrucker is ok. Most of the other minis are whatever. Kind of cool but I don’t think I would ever need or use them, so I won’t be buying them. regarding the monstrucker, I think it’s a good profile for making conversions or using a proxy . I’ll decide if I wanna use the official mini or make my own later .
As far as I can see the YJ mechanic is using a regular combi. I expected he would get the highly customised gun he is using in the novel. I hope he will get a profile with a weapon with an explosive trait.
Which makes one wonder what will happen when all the action packs are released separately? Will CB ever stop making two-player Operation boxes? Perhaps not but at least we know that we can see more action packs for the foreseeable future.
I actually got TAK for this exact reason; my other armies are hi-tech, and I wanted to add something different to my collection ;) You only think we're doing it a lot, because you haven't seen the old forums. In this day and age we don't rant and discuss stuff as much as we did in the days of yore. Ah, the memories :P Also, off-topic discussions are a time-honored tradition in the monthly release threads. Most of the time the actual news is so sparse, that we will discuss pretty much anything. One time we've reached a 100 page count, just to see if we can :P
Definitely getting the characterpack for an additional crane. And definitely getting the dire foes for sargosh. Will convert the drill to a hand with sword but, finally a yaith.
With over 25 Sectorials, not including the "paper" merc armies and Vanilla, they've got nearly about a decade before they have to re-use a faction.
Not me, I need hi tech army (O12), kill bot army (ALEPH) and some aliens (Shas & Spiral) and I'm good. :-p Assuming Operation 2021 is Nomad vs Ariadna, that leaves Operation 2022 as ALEPH vs Haqq, which seems an odd choice. It would be cool to see a NA2 vs NA2 Operation I think, but they're all pretty done unless they add more. Or maybe it'll be Tohaa vs Shock Army...
Uhhh, with 2021 supposedly being Nomad v Ariadna? I don't think they've got nearly as much time as you think. Especially since they don't "consider Sectorials as factions" from what people say. Said before, saying again: ALEPH v Ariadna was a big misstep. It would have been an ideal spot for a NA2 'starter' to come out, themed heavily around Druze items. The Druze box is a SWC box anyways, so it's not like they couldn't pull it off: Druze Bayram Security ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 6 / 1 DRUZE (CH: Mimetism) MULTI Sniper / Viral Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 32) DRUZE Lieutenant (X Visor) Combi Rifle, Chain-colt / Viral Pistol, Knife. (0 | 23) DRUZE (X Visor) Combi Rifle + Light Grenade Launcher (E/M and Nimbus) / Viral Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 27) DRUZE (X Visor) Combi Rifle, Chain-colt / Viral Pistol, Knife. (0 | 23) BASHI BAZOUK (Specialist Operative) Rifle + Light Shotgun / Pistol, CC Weapon. (0 | 17) SCARFACE & CORDELIA TURNER . (1.5 | 78) SCARFACE 2 Mk12, Heavy Rocket Launcher / AP CCW. (1.5 | 61) SCARFACE Boarding Shotgun / Pistol, CCW. () CORDELIA TURNER Combi Rifle, Chain-colt, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 17) 3.5 SWC | 200 Points While Scarface is wildly unlikely as an item, the point is there's enough profiles floating around out there something similar to the SAA starter with 4x 'goons' instead of 3 rifles and another thing could be added.
So I asked this earlier in the thread but I think it was lost in the morass. Attempt number two now. We're apparently getting the Panzerfaust Yě Māo via an arm-swapped model in the ITS box. Does that mean this loadout is not getting a general release? I'm not sure how it has worked in the past with other units in other ITS boxes.
