Hi there, guys... I have a request.

I'm hoping to make my forum avatar somewhat more Infinity-related and reflective of the faction I tend to sympathize the most with - meaning, Haqqislam. So, I'm looking for an image of female Haqqislamite soldier... unfortunately, I have trouble finding something good. For some reason, there's more Nomad or Yu Jing-related art around...

And so, my request: do you have anything I could use? Official art, fan art... heck, it could even be non-Infinity sci-fi art that would fit the concept of what I need. Any help?

    Be more precise, please.

Would that picture of 1ed. Ghulam Doc (from the old rulebook, if memory serves me) do, for example?

Hm, not really. A bit too cartoony. I favour more realistic art.

The ideal image? Something with a woman wearing a Bedouin-style headwrap and futuristic goggles... Not sure if an image like this exists, though. I searched the Internet for art and couldn't find it...

Well, I guess... if you really want someting that isn't there, you might just commission it.
There are some talented graphic artists on the forum (so, they're familiar with the setting), and somoene may be willing to do a commision job.

Or check over at DeviantArt, there definitely are folks doing commission jobs over there :)

Hah. That's a possibility, but I'm not sure I could afford the prices...

Ooooh, thank you for that link. It's good to have these all in one place. And, yes, I'm considering these - my problem is that they are a bit too... flat. I wish there was something of the quality of that YJ image that was used on the YJ paint set (among other places).

Good idea! I have most of the books, but I haven't really looked through them yet.

... yeah, as if I didn't think of that already :)

I tried to find some anime/manga character search and the one image that popped in my mind immediately was a Gunmm one due to the desert-ish outfit. But obviously, such a known character avatar will be seen as itself instead of an Haqq related character. Still, you may find a more fitting character by searching in desert/post-ap theme books.

I admit I have no idea who Gunmm is? When I google her, I end up with Battle Angel Alita images...

And yeah, post-apoc art might be a good idea...

It is actually the original title of the manga but depending on your location it may only be known as Battle Angel Alita.

... this is confusing. And the character is actually named Gunmm or Alita?

Gunnm (銃夢, literally "gun dream"), also known as Battle Angel Alita in its English translated versions.

And I think she was named Gally (ガリィ) in original version.

But still everyone knows her as Alita ... :sunglasses:

Close as I could get that wasn't Dune fetishism, Wonder Woman, Ghost in the Shell, or outright fantasy portrayals. The mind boggles at search engines. Cropping is on you. ;)

I don't understand why manga character get their names changed when published out of Japan. Does Spider-Man become, say... Raktorak when published in Japan?

Thank you :) That's a very nice find. Out of curiosity, what words did you google for?

Actually it is a thing for pretty much all countries, it's called adaptation.
some examples I can share from my French point of view:
    - "Tintin et Milou" is know as "Tim und Struppi" in German
    - "Dupond et Dupont" are "The Thompson Twins" in English
and it's not only for BD/comic/manga/... you got the same for books (LOTR, HP, ...) but with a more global world and shared cultures now than only 20 years ago, it tends to be toned down.

Really? Interesting. Back here, Tintin is... Tintin. The weirdest "localization" of that sort that happened here is the fact that Laurel & Hardy are known as Flip & Flap (huh).

Okay, search keywords-related question: the headdress / head covering the woman in @Papa Bey 's image. What's it called in English? Is it a turban? Wondering what to put into Google to find something similar...
