I did have a Long Ya but its mine was in the wrong area. White Banner only has profiles with mines Long Ya and Guilang. Admittedly this wasn't a great list. I was thinking almost doing a Vanilla list with two small link teams. I actually got a Shaolin into CC! And of course it was mutual death. It was his turn. He came up to base to base and I declared CC, he declared chain rifle. Sure I killed him with the CC atk, but he easily killed the Shaolin too. This makes me feel for a wish that if you get into b2b with your movement, you MUST declare CC. With three totes remotes I'd place one with LoF to as many of your own troopers as possible, this would have given it a shot at Bran as he moved into CC with the other remote. Also, was the monk not able to smoke it's target before moving into CC?
Well you've got a conceptual issue of you haven't really nailed down what that list is supposed to be doing with its orders. There's basically nothing in the first combat group that actually wants to spend a tonne of orders. Like when you built that list, how did you envision it working? Why did you pick stuff? How were they supposed to achieve the mission? Because it basically looks like you pulled random shit out of your bag, yelled "TR BOT GO BRRRR" and then winged it, to put it mildly. What? No. Just throw smoke first.
All three had view of each other. on top of buildings with views of everything. But he was prone and/or camo the whole time. No it was his turn. He came around the building into b2b with the monk. My ARO CC, his second half was to shoot. LOL yes some of it was like that. I kinda threw it together because i didn't expect the game to happen. Besides I wanted to see what it was like. BTW I DON'T like how the non-super jump guy with the Ye Mao can't even do a move if the the YM jump. There were a few times where I wanted to reposition but couldn't because he couldn't move. Either they all do a regular move or he just stands there wishing he could jump too. True but never had the chance to put anything on them anyway. I didn't have the points for what I wanted too.
Do you mean because of too many negative MODs? Just remember that N3 Electric Pulse doesn’t allow BdC to apply any MODs to his CC, although it’s usually high enough for that not to matter too much.
I'm guessing because with Surprise Attack, Camo, and HMG 0-8" Range the totes remote is at -12 to it's BS11
He used his CC on the TR bots. Started on the same roof as the #1 moved prone destroed it. Re-camoed, then super jumped to the next building, with ENG, Hundun, and #2 TR bot. the same with #2 but the Hundun tried shooting with his pistol and missed and Engineer failed his turn to face. Next BSG into Hundun and Engineer killing both. Then back into camo. On my turn I had to use a long super jump with Ye Mao to get sight of him. I think he took pity on me because he did nothing. He could have just shot him as he did a long jump. I then did discover-shoot successfully but then rolled only one hit out of four needed 15 or less :( just my usually luck. He then made his save and crawled away on the edge of the building. The Long Ya eventually SMG'd him after two tries. Probably wouldn't have needed to any of that if I just had the damn Jammer in the zhanshi team. He went right past them too. But i took the jammer out so that I could take the Long Ya. Things I'm not liking Mixing super jump figures with non-super jump. Things I l liked I liked the Long Ya. Putting down mines and having camo on it are cool. I wish I had taken the Heavy shotgun didn't have the points.
It's amazing how Nomads got the best HI links while our combat remotes run circles around theirs. Faction identity is so lost...
6 or 7 orders to take out 4 units during turn 1, depending on if he could jump into contact with the TR REM. Not too bad as far as order sinks go, just too bad these were your attack pieces. Remember that while Super-Jump does work while Camo, the Entire Order Super-Jump does not and you can't cancel Prone by Jumping. I find TR REMs shouldn't be deployed on roof tops - a passive aggressive stance like that enables your opponent to use the techs designed to take them out (ODD, TO or Surprise Shot Camo mainly), unless it is truly a delaying TR REM. Since you had a HMG Zhanshi in a "Haris" as the only other range option, you needed those Husong to move around (and you kind of needed them to have Marksmanship) and putting non-Zayin/Peeler on rooftops traps them. I'm personally not sold on Ye Mao. They're funny but ultimately very costly for something that goes down very easily and that doesn't actually have that much in terms of tricks (and the lack of a Core makes them iffy for Missile Launcher ARO pieces, IMO). I have had the AP Spitfire do some good job for me using it as a mobility beat stick, but they do need something else to clear the way. In either case, I'm personally basically never going to play White Banner without maxed Long Ya.
Have you met the pointy end of a Lunakhod, or a Tsyklon in a full link? Nomad combat remotes are definitely pretty great. The quality of Riot Grrls for cost is due to the Frenzy discount, which is hopefully being reduced/removed. And Nomads definitely do NOT have camo infiltrating HI, or TO HI, or HI with Tac Aware, or HI with ARM5 and NCO, etc. etc. Faction identity is mostly fine, except that Pan O gets everything that everyone else does but better (and more expensive, granted).
Did you notice how I said "HI links"? Because I did. It's not only Grrrls with the Frenzy discount that maybe gets fixed and maybe it doesn't, it's also Hollowmen. Rui Shi and Long Ya are definitely better than Lunokhod and Tsyklons, and if you want to wade into REM linking territory (which I didn't even mention) we could talk about Dashat linking Rui Shis [emoji51][emoji51]
With the upcoming change to super jump and the 15 unit cap, I'm not sure I'd rank Hollow Men or Riot Grrls above an IA Zuyong Pain Train. The order efficiency provided by LT2+NCO and Tactical Awareness will become even more valuable, as will the utility of a Haidao Wildcard. Thinking about it, even now I would probably take the IA pain train over both of these.
I don't think I've seen a Hollow Men list which relied on massed orders. Rio Grrls are a better link, particularly with the changes to MSV1 (and that there's smoke in Bakunin), but I don't know if they make a better list currently. Much will depend on what happens to points weight as both Hollow Men and Riot Grrls are better due to being remarkably cheaper for their gear level than their Zuyong/Shang-Ji counterparts. Both does make Jujak and Wu Ming seem overpriced or obsolete, though. We'll see what happens with Frenzy that is apparently becoming a special skill of unknown function.
I don't agree there. I think their attack remotes are just as good. The higher ARM, Climbing + makes a difference. The Tsyclond with 360 visor can get into some good spots to shoot but ours would have to use more orders to do the same. The same can be said for the small remotes. He knee capped me enough to allow the rest of the force to move in so not a bad trade off. I'm thinking the same on Ye Mao. I really don't like spending more than 25pts-29pts for one wound, low ARM, models. Unfortunately that doesn't leave you with much in White Banner. However, I'd totally take them in a core. I would possibly run this. 5 YĚ MĀO MULTI Rifle, Chain-colt, Panzerfaust / Pistol, CC Weapon. (0 | 27) YĚ MĀO Missile Launcher, Chain-colt / Pistol, CC Weapon. (1.5 | 28) YĚ MĀO Hacker (Killer Hacking Device) MULTI Rifle, Chain-colt / Pistol, CC Weapon. (0 | 28) YĚ MĀO (Forward Observer) MULTI Rifle, Chain-colt, Panzerfaust / Pistol, CC Weapon. (0 | 28) TIAN GǑU (1st Section) Combi Rifle, Nanopulser, Jammer / Pistol, CC Weapon. (0 | 24) 1.5 SWC | 135 Points
All these arguments about Hollow Men and Grrlls maybe being worse than YJ links in the future aren't really arguments at all. I'm talking about now because that's the rules system we have; I'll talk about N4 when we have N4.
I have hope but i'm trying not to get my hopes up too much. Shang Ji getting faster to keep up with Jujak is nice but if they are still expensive i'm not sure i'd play more than one of them. Probably none because the one I want will be in a box set I can't get for a few years. So far i'm finding YL HI links better outside of YJ! Wu Ming are great in Ikari, and of course Zuyong are fantastic in Dahshat. Hell, the way things are going, I'm willing to bet Jujak will better in White Company. Oh wait... Yes. Yes they are. Slowed down by the Kaplans but something I would take. JUJAK Breaker Combi Rifle, Heavy Flamethrower + TinBot B (Deflector L2) / Pistol, CC Weapon. (0.5 | 38) JUJAK Spitfire, Heavy Flamethrower / Pistol, CC Weapon. (1.5 | 39) JUJAK Combi Rifle, Heavy Flamethrower / Pistol, CC Weapon. (0 | 33) KAPLAN Doctor (MediKit) Combi Rifle, Blitzen / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 27) KAPLAN Engineer Combi Rifle, Adhesive Launcher, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 27) 2 SWC | 164 Points
If you had a better constructed list you would've been fine though, which is the point Mahtamori is making. You had 6 orders left in that group, you can do plenty of work with 6 orders if you have something to spend them on. You forgot to put things in the combat group to actually spend orders.
I mean; what does that even mean for Yu Jing? It does inform the meta-design of the Heavy Infantry faction a bit; one is a budget heavy infantry with premium equipment and the other is a premium heavy infantry with budget equipment, neither combination is something Yu Jing has, here it's only budget-budget or premium-premium and it's getting crowded. Like, just imagine if Ye Mao were heavy infantry. I commit heresy here, but Ye Mao as HI makes a good argument for keeping up with the Hulang-style line of "heavy" infantry and at least I think would be a hit even with N3 costs where the Hulang during N3 was a miss. Other than that - careface! Hollow Grrls are reasonably priced for heavy infantry because of the Frenzy rule and it's kind of bullshit that it takes a "drawback" to get the price down to a reasonable level, but they're ostensibly Nomad units, fill a role in their faction, and don't really affect Yu Jing.
