Certainly true, but it doesn't mean that any time someone says Siesta they're being racist of course. Calling someone hard working isn't always sarcasm. I guess at this point the other poster isn't going to clarify what he meant, so there's little point in us hashing it out.
Funnily enough, the Wildcat models from the starter box along with the spitfire and rocket launcher mini's were some of my favourite sculpts that had me interested in Infinity before I purchased any models! I had always wanted to collect them but never got around to it in the end. Between these and the earlier Muyibs from Haqqislam, I can blame these for my investment into the game. Despite their size, I still like their designs very much, so I really hope any new versions do them justice!
Ye, so intent wasn't to be racist or whatever. It was meant as a joke. Like in Europe, each nation has one or several stereotypes connected to them. And most people joke about it all the time. Even tho they are mostly not true ( like French surrendering in every war ever ), these are part of European culture, like it or not. I am sure in the US there are same types of stereotypes for different states. Some people find those offensive. I would say most people don't give a damn. I certainly don't. This specific joke was meant to be understood by CB themselves, because I know they read the forums. I was posting this in reference to the joke they themselves made last year at Interplanetario when at one point in the middle of the tournament they all lied down and pretend to sleep because it was siesta time. People laughed at that joke then, I don't remember anyone protesting it at the time. So I was sure they wouldn't mind me poking fun at them at the same manner. I guess since most people here weren't at Interplanetario, they wouldn't known that. Also have in mind that English is my second language. I am limited to using words I know and generally try to write as few words as possible to explain myself. This seems to make people think I am harsh or insulting, when in reality I just want to say what I have to say in fewest words possible. This wall of text was mentally draining and so I generally like to keep it simple when posting online. I also don't use emotikons/smiley faces maybe if I put few of these there people would realize I wasn't being serious.
That clarification is ace, thanks. English is also my second language, I am from Spanish (and Italian) descent although not living in Spain at the moment, and I took that really as racist and offensive. Good for you for coming forward. If I might, then, ask you to be mindful of words, the power of said words and the implied "bad" stuff we say (I include myself as re-learning non-women offensive slurs is a challenge for me, for example! But being conscious is the first stuff, I believe). TBH, this is why the Nomad corner of the forum is the best...
Now that the situation has calmed down... Thank you @Mob of Blondes and @kanluwen didn't know of the scale difference(had my doubts, though) and as soon as you posted I went to my collection to check: both my O-12 and Aleph HVTs are old scale. Now, are the Dire foes and ("beloved") Aleph AS old scale? from which product started the new scale? (i'm gonna guess Op Icestorm) @LaughinGod I imaged as such. I too got called "rude" simply because I didn't use any emoticon and always has been laconic in word: it happens. Just put a smily when writing a joke since the medium does not convey the intonation.
The "New Scale" came about with Op Icestorm and the advent of 3D sculpted infantry. It did take a while to settle down with early N3 releases (Domaru, I see you!) and hasn't always been consistent (Zhanshi SWC). The Aleph deva HVT (zuoyi salute pose) is new scale, just a slightly shorter guy (feet, hands, head and equipment are consistent with other figs in scale). O-12 commissioner HVT is old scale (N2 "realism" phase) as are myrmidon box, Achilles v1, Patroclus, ASS starter, Penthesilea, Ajax (if you can tell... he's actually larger than human scale anyway), Atalanta, Teucer, Phoenix, Nesaie Alke, myrmidon spitfire and myrmidon officer, ekdromoi, agemas, Thamyris, Machaon, Diomedes and the sophotect (support pack). Chandra is hand sculpted but matches scale and gear to the dactyls. Thrasymedes (DF2) is early 3D (pre N3), is slightly smaller than current thorakites but fits pretty well as his crouched pose hides it. New scale figs in SP are: Rebots, Drakios & Scylla, Acmon, Dactyl support pack, Hector, Achilles V2, Thorakites and Andromeda. Hippolyta's ltd ed skin is, also, if you can find it - Dart was ltd ed and now has a gen release. Interpret that how you will. I'm quietly hopeful that vaulting SP next will lead to a relatively quick reboot with glorious N4 myrmidons to match Perseus' design cues. SP has the best integration between background, historical/mythological references and rules in the game currently IMO. It's a theme too strong to lie fallow for long. Odysseus is dead...
It wasn't quite as neat, both CAD and hand sculpting existed in tandem for a while. Diomedes, Thrasymedes, Phoenix, and Machaon are pre-Icestorm CAD sculpts, for example, and both versions of Penny as a well.
And as demostrated, even inside the same "technology", the sizes vary. Sitting or squatting poses seem to be bigger than they should. The weapons vary from one sex to the other. It's a pity, because Infinity models tend to have good quality, but some lose a bit when placed near each other in wrong combinations. Yes, persons are different sizes, but if you notice something amiss...
The weapons, to an extent, don't feel as weird in the context of a society with what seems to be 'fast fabrication' available. If a weapon can be tooled to fit an individual and not sacrifice damage or reliability, I would assume that it would be a priority for elite troops.
Famous last words of a team trapped behind enemy lines. Even the magazines are different sizes, so not just hard or impossible repairs, but not even ammo sharing. It is plain stupid, and contradicts the concept of copy-paste uniforms, which we seem to be getting more and more. And it did not happen when the models were hand sculpted, because they were using "weapon dollies", instead of rescaling the model on screen. It's a production thing, not a lore one. Or if there is a lore one, it is postfacto.
in N1, weapons were the same size for both gendres. Some female models looked as if they had really oversized guns sometimes, and people complained a lot about that, that's why CB started to change sizes (look for the old hmg moira/hellcat/alguacile and compare it with the old hmg intruder/securitate/sin eater, same size). CB tend to hear some people claims, and in the end, it will make other people claim too (but seems to me that they will continue hearing the same people anyway) Also, there is this absurd non-written rule of "every miniature should be of the same size". Why? we people are not of the same height or weight, so why so much problems with those "its tiny" or "is too big". I always thought that those size changes bring a little extra personality to the model/troop they are representing. about the cad-miniatures and size. For us nomads, the first cad-troop were the moiras, and after them we got some hand-sculpted dudes for some time, so yes, there was a time that got some mix of traditional and cad sculpting. The problem came later, when there was a 2nd scale change (the first one came from heroic 28mm to realist 28mm during late n1/beggining n2), at late n2/beggining n3. That scale change was done after starting using cad, not "because of cad" (which is a common missconception that a lot of pleople keep telling). Also, some troopers got a mid-way change of scale in the weapons. The first riots got weapons rescaled (to make them smaller), same with the vortex, but riots got a resculpt later, so now only vortex remains with an n1 underscalled weapon, while we still have some miniatures with old n1 wepons, and a few n1 sculpts (zero, spectr, szally pilot, with the zero beign maybe the oldest in the catalog)
That’s to be expected though, and is the same with traditional sculpting. Almost everyone does them over-size, because if you do them the right size they look too big. Guns is another matter.
Too small? They already are (the classic explanation) and look (the problem) too big. They are "too too" big, with models having the head at the wrong height when near standing ones.
fair enough. honestly, i figured we were at least at a point of functionality could be maintained alongside ergonomics for bodytypes.
I have two squat-posed Infinity models - Gromoz (very tiny in every way) and Hunzakut (7 foot tall amazon if she stood up).
I have Valeria and the Asuka alguacile sniper. Both look tiny, but I don't mind. I just put them on top of some tactical rock/junk to make them look a bit bigger. Another that looked weird was the old Bunny odalisque, which looked as if she had the loongest legs in all infinity. All of those were traditional sculpt, while the hunzakut was 3d instead. They could make her the correct size if they wanted, but I think is better a good looking miniature of an enormous woman
Yes, I meant to type too small, sorry. This is industry-standard stuff. You have to sculpt sitting and kneeling poses larger than they should be, to make them look right compared to standing models. CB do it, and did it across all editions. GW do it. Hasslefree do it. Etc. Etc. It’s not quite as basic as ‘Introductory Sculpting 101’ level, but it’s definitely no higher than ‘Intermediate Sculpting 103’. The Djanbazan Sniper is a classic example.
That is one I remember as looking clearly "double oversized" when people show their squads. So it is or I am to sensible to size tricks. The whole point of tricks is that they should pass without notice.
