Funny then how when setting up a group, it's finding out that a faction someone likes isn't actually available to buy is more likely to turn them off of the game than somebody on a forum(which, spoiler, isn't where most people will ever go to when starting out these days. Reddit, Discord, Facebook, Twitter--any of those are more likely than an official forum) being critical of the company.
On the plus side, it is a good way to mark the seasons... "oh, folks without access to even a fraction of the info needed to make an informed decision are making sweeping pronouncements again. Must be time to harvest again!"
Wouldn't the obvious answer to "finding out an army you like isn't available" be to just remove references to that army in most of the material anyway? How many players are picking the book up unseen and chosing to play the French? At least Tohaa I can see, since they're big in the lore, but a specific sectorial of PanO that is no longer made seems less likely to be a make or break for a new player.
Which is a fair enough point, but isn't really a valid response from the angle of CB IMO. It's like saying that it's a-okay because some shops still have old stock on the shelves. And when did NCA or SAA get removed from the lore for PanO? How was FRRM being retired handled? There is nothing in the game material that says "We don't sell these models anymore". They're still in Army. And let's not even go on the wishywashy statement about "they might come back".
So let's see your take, hotshot. Oh right. You don't have one. You constantly love to imply that we "need more info" before making sweeping pronouncements or the like and take shots at me, but you haven't had anything really meaningful to add to this forum since N2 made way to N3. Guess what? We have a lot of the info needed simply by watching trends. They continually refuse to change the boxes to contain more items or variety...and yet they have to keep producing more and more 'exclusives' to get people to buy the books. They keep doing new starters. They keep shelving sectorials rather than reworking them. They keep complaining about SKU bloat. They finally started doing something I suggested years ago with the Action Packs and gave a real starting point for people entering the game. That's a Great Step and I've commended them for it.
It's really hard to take @kanluwen seriously when he's shit-stirring here but running around other forums getting mad at people if they don't give GW the benefit of the doubt beyond all reason with their edition change.
That's my point though, they may have mentioned the units having a set back or whatever, or not, but the alternative to "new players get attached to a unit and then can't find the models" is to just remove the units, rather than remake all the models forever. As far as I recall, the new Army will flag the discontinued as not currently supported with models. I guess they should also leave their forces out of the N4 books also, so no one gets confused.
I could be posting glowing praise of CB here and you'd still be slinging shit my way in all likelihood. Enjoy your echo chamber.
...I really, really hope this is recorded, the odds I’ll be awake at 6 AM tomorrow morning for this are...uh...not great.
Hey, so regarding sectorial availability and being in the lore and new players...White Company has been in the lore for some time now, and there are other forces in the lore (for example, troops stationed on Earth, IIRC), and new players could read about them but couldn’t play them. Is anyone going to seriously argue that even a single new player saw the game, liked it enough to want to invest in it, read the lore, fell in love with WC, then walked away entirely on discovering it wasn’t playable at the time? I get the beef that existing players are bothered by discontinuations, but the idea that it’s going to dissuade potential new players in significant numbers seems weird. (Background, I work in communications design and have been involved in strategizing and creating marketing and brand campaigns, and I’ve worked closely with a *lot* of sales experts to do so. There were discussions about product line management, not that dissimilar to this debate, and the generally accepted wisdom was that new customers are affected by marketing, sales, and new product—while legacy customers are mainly of concern only when you need to maintain a business relationship with them and they’re still making reliable purchases.)
Back on topic ... what have we learned from yesterdays video? Sixth Sense is working like in N3, countering surprise shot for fireteams, which is ... bad. Hacking ... well, I don't know if we have learned much about hacking. Yes, some AHD programs are now incorporated in HDs. Carbonite is harder to pull-off because no +3 anymore, Oblivion easier because of Breaker Ammo. Contrary the effects of Carbonite are a bit longer lasting and the ones from Oblivion resetable? Isolation is not really known, at least I didn't find it in C1 yesterday. We haven't seen any HD+ or KHD yet. And we don't know which programms survived. So hacking is still a variable. After seeing TaoWu (not yesterdays video, I know) with his Burst 3 Nanopulser, I realized that there are tons of pretty powerfull DTWs comig with N4. Every second profile gets +1B DTWs and every shotgun is becoming a B2 DTW as well. I am not sure, if this in combination is really good. I just can not judge it yet. So I am still very sceptical, because if they did not incorporate any means to stop the Wildcard-Fireteam-Madness (like Exile on every HD) I doubt, the meta will really change. At least I haven't seen anything yet that is positive from my point of view, just a few things that maybe change something.
Well, getting sectorials OOP wouldn't be a major problem if there was a rotation. There is an issue there, but it has not a simple solution. There are OOP sectorials that got more revisions (directly or indirectly) during N3 than some sectorials not OOP. I really hope N4 will bring more revisions for every sectorial, and just see units OOP instead of sectorials (the proxy rule helps a lot, and makes it less "painful"). For example, units like the morans could have been OOP (they have a lot of detractors of the model, and a lot of people just convert other troops), just waiting some time until they got a new sculpt. While other units had got a resculpt sooner than needed in my opinion (which brougth unneded SKUs) Also, not all factions have been treated the same way with the new boxes, some have it harder to others. In the end, a person who wants to start a faction will end buying almost all avaiable things, But some will get easier to make solid lists than others while I agree with your post. Can you explain why you see it bad? I see a lot of hate to SS, but without it on certain sectorials, I see a lot of extra problems for them that are not addressed in their roster
Sure. The whole Fireteam-Boni, especially Sixth Sense are bad because they break the Paper-Scissors-Stone-principle of Infinity. Nothing works against them anymore. You can only use some weird ARO-timing-exploits. But normally Infinity is about mod-stacking (at least i was told so) and this doesn't work against the Fireteams anymore. No Surprise shot, no Smoke-Trick, nothing. With "normal" fireteams this wouldn't be so bad, because you would have to deceide, if you pay 170+ points for a full HI PainTrain or go cheap and have only a squishy defense link. But with the Wildcards you don't have to make a tradeoff, you can have the best of both worlds for only a few points. Edit: I left off the abominations of fireteams. Something like the Kamau sniper. This piece is in reactive turn, means in ARO, as good as the best Rambo-Pieces (Kriza, Sheskiin and the like) in active turn. Means they get only around 50% to actually win against the Kamau. In their good ranges. This means outshooting doesn't work. And outsmarting (surprise shot or smoke trick) doesn't work either. Hacking doesn't work, because it's not hackable. So ... And with the above the Kamau is way better than dedicated ARO-pieces like the Sineater. And IMO that's just not right.
Usually you can stack mods like Full Auto, Camo, Mimetism, etc... except against something like a Kamau MSR.
well, I've been since almost the begining in the game. More that stacking bonus/malust, I was told that the game was "bring the correct tool to the correct place". The stacking thing is more of an n3 (or at least, is when I started hearing about it), and only applies to some factions because other doesn't have it as easier to stack coordinated still works againts them (but maybe not so efficiently as intended). visual mods are still there (Except for a few fireteams that are the main problem in my opinion). It doesn't stop smoked specialists doing mission, and the dude with MSV2 will only face one (is not much because how people use intent, but is something), and is maybe the only tool to deffend against stealth units to move too freely. But yes, is a counter to a lot of things. Maybe a solution could be to split its rules, leave some in the fireteams, but also bring others to a lot of profiles, but I think those counters should remain in the game, one or another way (maybe not all of them at the same time in the same troopers). My reason? some sectorials need them because they lack in rules to deal against a lot of dudes.
Only theoretically, because effectively the +3 BS works like MSV1 and cancels Camo and Mimetism. If you have a MSV1 Link team it levels even the advantage of ODD or TO. And with MSV1 being able to look through smoke in N4 ... I am afraid this is even getting worse.
