It's moving the goal posts, they said playable, not playable by new players.

    And I said this:
I never once moved goal posts. I specifically made a statement.

Also, "old players" don't matter when it comes to this topic. See any thread where things like this come up and people just say to "proxy instead".
You don't keep a game going by simply appealing to the people who are unlikely to buy things unless forced to. You keep a game going by getting new players in, and new players aren't likely to continue beyond an initial small purchase if they feel the game is just a churn and burn like Infinity is.

    PS:
If you want to talk about "moving goalposts", I'd suggest you notice this bit from Errhile's reply to me:
JSA being cut out from vanilla is a totally separate thing to a Sectorial being discontinued. JSA didn't cease to have its models sold, its starter set discontinued, etc.

It became a standalone faction, for all intents and purposes. And it's still available right now. YJ players who had JSA stuff for vanilla kinda/sorta got screwed but that is such a weirdly specific cornercase that it's not really relevant to anything beyond a strawman statement.

And even then, the generous proxy rules mean they can still be accessed by new players, provided they accept that proxying is needed. Is that necessarily optimal? No. Is that what it is? Yeah, pretty much.

I'm a bit confused. These sectorials are being discontinued. Why is it an issue if their units are not available to new players? They're getting a last update for the benefit of the installed customer base, not newcomers.

It's necessary so we can keep new stuff coming and the game moving forwards instead of staying stagnant so 2 people a year can start french.

Then you can't say that "all sectorials are playable" with a straight face, now can you?

Seriously. Words (shockingly, I know!) have a meaning.
If I show someone that bit from the previous page, they'd expect it to be the current availability of items. There's a reason why GW has implemented the "Legends" setup for items that are no longer sold.

I think you're assigning extra meaning to the word "playable". These sectorials are going to be marked as discontinued in Army.

Easy. Me, as a new player, fall in love with the fluff of one of that sectorials, but i suddenly found i cant play that with the proper miniatures... (And some of them have really beautiful figures)

I'd actually prefer getting less, but better balanced and thought-out new stuff. There was too much things of questionable quality released, while at the same time older stuff was left underdeveloped

So you'd prefer it if they simply axed these sectorials and didn't bother updating them to N4 so that your budding collection is immediately and with little warning become a set of proxies?
No, selling the miniatures is not an option.

I must have missed where Army had anything to do with that thing plugged during Infinity week on the previous page.
With how many of these units are basically just minor differences in one or two pieces?

I'd be fine with them actually doing what they always claim to be doing and reduce SKUs by combining products.

And that's the way it has continually been. We only see developments on older Sectorials as a sendoff, it feels, or if there's a tie to something new coming.

No, the solution is not to cut anything...

How many new sectorials arrived and how many go OoP? The excuse of "we dont have enough resources is not valid"

How many times is it going to take people with actual degrees or life long experience working in the field of logistics and economics to explain that you can't run an infinite inventory of products, nor maintain old ones indefinitely?
I know of at least one forum member who can not afford the big sets all willy nilly and has to prioritise purchases. Making bigger, more expensive, boxes does not make the game more accessible nor does it solve the SKU problem.

The best you can possibly hope for is low-quantity runs of discontinued miniatures that you can only order from CB direct, but that means expensive miniatures and still has to be sufficiently profitable to set up and maintain.

Let's stop pretending that adding a set of arms or different heads to a box inflates the game beyond a reasonable price, shall we?
It really doesn't mean "expensive miniatures". It means longer delivery times though.

I'd argue the action packs, and the Code One inventory design as a whole, are a step in the right direction for this. You get one full, playable 300pt list with no bloat in extras such as with the old Army Packs, nor a shortage of useful minis as with many starter boxes. As a result you can make one purchase to get the minimum requirements to run a game, and season to taste with blisters when you have the cash and desire to upgrade.

That said, modern Fireteam design is three steps backwards in this regard thanks to how stuff is boxed for the rest of the product line. Making up the standard Varuna Kamau Sniper+Fusiliers link with a backup Fusilier HMG or Hacker requires three separate boxes, including either the Vanilla Starter or one of the PanO two player boxes, all of which have out-of-faction models for you. All of PanO except for MO has some real headscratchers as far as packaging is concerned, but at least we're lucky enough to get lots of models. I'd be seriously considering a dip into Invincible Army, except there's all of one of the important Combi Zuyong sculpt and it's buried in the IA starter with five other models nobody will take more than one of. I'd never be able to recommend a Sectorial to a cash-conscious new player anymore.

At this point we are well aware that you are critical of pretty much all of corvus belli's business decisions...

One feels it does not bare repeating :expressionless:

Even when I ignore you, everyone just ends up talking to an invisible contrarian, and threads become (even more) incoherent

From my perspective, this is the kind of thing that scares away new infinity fans, not the limited availability of a few decade-old sub-factions...
