This combination of rules really needs to go. Casanova having it just tells me that Shock Immunity should just be part and parcel of NWI.
Is the Zhencha the last NWI profile without Shock Immunity (or some better kind of Immunity) that CB published?
No there's actually probably more without shock/bio immunity than those with it, they're actually pretty common. Hippolyta, Wild Bill, Gamma Units, Liang Kai, Jing Qo, Adil Mehmut the list goes on.
Gamma are 2W and NWI, so shock doesnt work on them anyway. And Hippolyta is a greek, they don't get shock immunity anyway.
I think Nahabs fit the bill - they are more recent than IA stuff (except Lei Gong? Not sure) and they don't have Shock immunity in any form I think.
for some time, HI were shock inmune because HI. That has been changing from time to time. Maybe it will be back in n4?
Seems unlikely, because they specifically wanted to make sure that IA's expensive infiltrators died to Shock. ALEPH can have Dart, though, that's fine...
I think this is just one of the old truths. HI didn't die to Shock because they were designed to not die to Shock. For some reason they broke this rule with the Zhencha and it annoyed people, especially right on the heels of Dart who is effectively the same, but cheaper, better equipped and without the same vulnerabilities (including the Zhencha's weakness to Hacking, a long-time bugbear of HI fans that has no discount attached, but was assumed to basically be the tax for the second wound, which Dart and the recent massive pile of Characters using the NWI+Immunity combo has disproved). If she had a Specialist Skill a few YJ players might have quit the game after that. Seems like HI are getting cheaper in N4, so it won't be as irritating as it is now, but it's still annoying to see Character after Character brought out with all the perks of power armour, but none of the weaknesses.
there was a time that HI and 2W+ were shock inmune, but that has been changed from edition to edition (in N2 it changed in the middle of the edition too) Aleph, and MO and SAA, because some random reason. But who knows? Shock inmunity is not so extended. For example, none of the nomad characters with NWI has it (moderators instead....WTF logic)
The MO and ALEPH are actually the odd bits in Dart's faction options, in the Aristeia! fluff she's an Acon native. She got Posthuman'd at some point between A! and N3. As for why the Nomads don't have the combo, most of its characters are really darn old. Back then the only thing with the combo was the Veteran Kazak, which was a rather special case for Vanilla Ariadna only. The Moderators presumably have the Shock Immunity because they're cops on Bakunin, the Sphere's anarchy capital, and Knives are Shock weapons.
Veteran had it initially because he was the only 1W HI in the game, then the rule were changing and so. Dart as far as I know, was dessigned to be an aleph character in infinity, even if they made in her lore to be from Acon. Was dessigned for aleph, and then they gave it into pano's sectorials. There are some characters in the game that their origin is different from where they can be used, and they didn't got the freebie option I know why nomad characters like Kusanagi don't have it, but from the 4 we have access to, 2 are "new" (Raoul and perseus) and from those, one is an ex-aleph's lhost. My point was that there is no logic on why CB applies something or not (why moderators have it, but not kusanagi? maybe just balance things)
While I only see one nomad character or unit at all with NWI, Kusanagi and a rogue Myrmidon, who is pretty new (not counting Wild Bill), it will be interesting to see if these old characters, be it Kusanagi oder Charlotta or whoever, get a thorough revision or only get translated to N4. With a translation they would still have no Shock Immunity with a revision ... maybe. And regarding the new character, Casanova, it looks like they are breeding a new class of monster-CC-characters. Adil and Casanova, both with MA and i-Kohl, Adil with another CC-6 Close Combat Weapon .... these are some pretty harsh modifiers.
Dart ended up fighting alongside MO in the 3rd Offensive on Paradiso, helping Konstantinos defend a Teutonic chapter house during some of the heaviest fighting.
Taking a step back from the game and coming back for N4. I'm all for killing half the named Character's Profiles in favor of a troop type they can serve as proxy for afterwards. The Toni treatment. It's a bit jarring that most lists in a game that's supposedly spec ops raiding black sites contain one ore more celebrities in half the known galaxy. Especially with how bland and similar most of their Profiles are. N3->N4 is as much a good spot to expand and redefine design space as it is time for a spring cleaning.
I am eager to know what the cost of Adil will be in N4. The main difference between the two is: Adil has a real gun and Casanova has ODD and his N4 profile is 4 pts cheaper than Adils now (okay Adil has Vet L1 on top, but I think ODD is more expensive than a Breaker and Vet1). Yep, Liu can pack his things, when crushers come. Mime -3, FO, not hackable and give away one arm point ... thankfully only one weapon loadout in jump form. Like Liu and a Tiger had child
The design philosophy just seems so much different. Like they're invested in giving cool shit to O-12, but want to give IA the exact bare minimum they can get away with.
