Sorry Kan but I got the same out of what you said as colbrook. They way it was worded made it seem the opposite of what you meant.I agree about profiles though. How many years is it since the first Shang Ji? I also have sense of dredd that it will be the last one we see in a while, since pretty much nobody I know wants to actually use them. I see maybe one used in IA and one begrudgingly used in WB.

I think this it's for the people that got Kaldstrom and wanted to play all of the figs in one force. Though having those troops in one force just seems crazy. I can't imagine having a Guilang and Nokken in the same force. Out of the new troops I can only see the Jujak, and Ye Mao, working as mercs. Mainly because there's no story for them yet. I know even less of the WF but I guess the Vargar Security team. I highly doubt either the Fusiliers or Zhanshi for the base troop. Maybe Brawlers and Dakini?

Story and background doesn't matter as Dashat already made pretty clear. Let's hope it doesn't end the same "it's like White Banner/Sval, but better"

While I agree with you that White Company won't be CodeOne, I do figure they'll pull Code One units (mini releases at least) for the bulk of White Company. It would be amusing if some Imperial Service got put in there, since they use Dakini's and Garuda's and such.

I guess it won't be Sun Tze, Joan and Achilles together, but hey, maybe!

They have kept Cold Front around to keep Ariadna and ALEPH around, but I can't see them reboxing ALEPH's starter into a White Banner starter.

I doubt we'll see any "White Company" specific releases outside John Kestrelboner, we've not had a starter for any of the other "paper" Sectorials.

I absolutely agree that it makes sense for a number of the Kaldstrøm and Beyond contents to pop up in WC (now that's not a great abbreviation) both from a background perspective with them recruiting from Svalarheima, and because it gives people another way to use miniatures from the latest sets.

I think Liang Kai's fluff mentions him being involved with the WC too.

Here’s my stab at what may be in WC and I want to see how close I come when it finally hits.

    Aleph:
    Dakini (core)
    Garuda
    Nagas
    Proxies

    Yu Jing:
    Jujak
    Ye Mao
    Daofei
    Jing Qo

    PanO:
    Vargar
    Remotes

    Mercs:
    Brawlers (Core)
    Authorized Bounty Hunters

I don't think that Daofei & Jing Qo will be in the sectorial. The lore of the Daofei doesn't sound like something that will end up being in White Company. Plus i don't think we will get any PanO or Yu Jing characters in the sectorial either.
The Jujak & Ye Mao sound plausible as do the rest of the units on your list.

Seems interesting, giving vainilla factions broad access to all new mercs was something a bit illogical for some of them. But at the same time was a way to give more of that disctintion between "vainilla-options" vs "sectorial-fireteams". Hard to do a good mix.

So new mercs that will only work for their lore sectorials and the vainilla armies they are from is a good mid-point. I hope they do that with all other merc characters too, taking out access to some of the mercs to some vainilla, and giving access to some of the mercs that are in sectorials but not in their vainilla ATM, and not limited to their official sectorials, but also to their "related" NA2 too

Jing Qo was a shot in the dark. However, the Daofei background might make them more open to it. Part of their training is throwing them into the wild and fending for themselves. Very independent troops that could joining a company like this. Also the WC fluff says the take the best of the best which makes me think that this is going to have higher-end expensive troops over cheap throwaway troops. The opposite of Ikari.

It’d be interesting to see the ALEPH contributions turn out to be just REMs and some Steel Phalanx line troops/skirmishers/warbands, rather than largely OSS units.

Throw in YJ camo/infiltrators and HI (watch WC get a Shanger core in conjunction with a Shang-ji box release) and a mix of specialists, engineers, and a TAG or two from PanO to round it out. Bonus design trolling points if the only doctor options are paramedics, the PanO Trauma Doc, and regen/automedikit.

TBH I kind of expect to see PanO knights, given the historical theme of Hawkwood and WC, in which case Yu Jing may be relegated to sneaky troops and specialists despite the faction’s focus on heavy infantry in powered armor. I think I can live with that if we get Tiger Soldiers and Daofei or Hac Tao though.

I think what I’m saying is, I expect the unit lineup to be a little bit weird, especially after the way Winterfor and WB ended up being composed. I’ve got models from all three contributing factions, so I’ll probably play it, but since I have almost zero MO or SP troops it’d be just my luck that that’s what goes in the lineup.

I don't think any Steel Phalanx unit will be in White Company due to them being Paradiso front line troops. O.S.S.S. is the likely choice.
The Daofei seem to be too important/skilled for the Jade Empire to allow being used as Mercs. I'd be shocked if they do make it into the sectorial. I suspect more plain/less important troops to be allowed to fight for John Hawkwood.

You might be thinking in 40k terms where a soldier never gets to leave the service, want to or not. He's a soldier that's been given the equivalent gear as he used to have. I think you could say the same for the Zuyong, Hulang, and Zhencha in Dahshat. Somethting to make clear too is that I suspect the AVA to be 1. This is why I love NA2 as well. I can use almost any figure for the troops. He's a merc from Yu Jing that been given armor PanO and weapons from Aleph. etc.

Here's a few bullet facts from the article.
    • Elite Mercenaries
    • Contracts with SSS
    • Official contractor with PanO and YJ
    • Former headquarters in Svalarheima
    • new headquarters in Concilium
    • both sides wish to hire
    • recruited a group of professionals from the best units of PanOceania and Yu Jing (and others)
I'm suspecting the troops from PanO & YuJing will be elite/vets and AVA 1 or 2.

Imperial Service gets Dakini's, Garuda's and Sophotects, so I was figuring them in there, but maybe also something "newer". I'd love an Apsara just because I like the model/fluff.

Knights would be cool enough, but not sure it fits the merc idea well. I'd say either Sophotect or Hospitaler though, so doubt a hindrance to docs. I wouldn't expect Avicenna though. :)

I've got a bunch of ALEPH/ OSS and some PanO Icestorm/Kaldstrom stuff, plus whatever Defiance pulls in.

I would really love an archer Dart too. The limited figure is long gone and the SMG figure is just not the best, IMO.

I assume their TAG will be one of the new Kaldstrom ones, rather than a Marut though... :)

there is not a single good and logical reason by lore to see any aleph troop in a mercenary company. Only maybe post-humans, and that's because those are the only "humans" separated from aleph's mind in the army.

Robots don't leave service, they are recycled or destroyed, but not lended to mercs that can trade with that tecnology.

Aleph working as a mercenary should force O12 to shut it down, because aleph whould be working for $$$ instead of humanity. And allowing the use of its resourdes should be more banned. And if there is a logical reason for Aleph to work there, then it should not be in a "merc way" (again $$$).

I want to see how CB justify it

Well, if White Company has contracts with the SSS, I could see Aleph having embedded assets, maybe to represent loan/support troops for the purposes of SSS-approved missions rather than actual members of the company. From the article: "since they work as reinforcements for the SSS units, this agency's operatives have also been seen fighting alongside them with a high level of effectiveness."

It's also possible any Aleph troops represent a "close enough" unit. Like how in Ikari, there's a good chance not every single Wu Ming is actually using Wu Ming armor (or is even a former penal trooper) - just that the Wu Ming profile best fits that type of soldier.

that would be against aleph's original purpose, and O12 should take action if made public in the lore. One thing would be a combined army from YJ and pano with aleph's support, and other would be a mercenary company. A contract would mean that aleph can be bought, which I think is even worse

ALEPH hires White Company to "track down a rogue AI," and sends along some advisors to make sure it's disposed of properly. I don't think WC is renting ALEPH material regularly, but ALEPH lends a hand whenever their interests align.

does aleph really need to hire anything, when it has access to better tech and better soldiers? that same reason could be used to almost all merc companies. It still makes no sense to me.

Better tech/soldiers, sure, but not infinite tech/soldiers. ALEPH can't be everywhere at once. Maybe ALEPH needs plausible deniability. Maybe someone in WC already has contacts with the target. Maybe they are worried about Cube contamination. There's a plethora of reasons ALEPH might need to hire out.

If the mission has very specific parameters in which a merc company excels, it might be a better call. Mercs are also a great way to deflect responsibility for more "delicate" missions. Not sure to what extent Aleph can/does contemplate the latter, but I suppose one can make a case for it.

again, those justifications could be used to more merc companies...and to all factions, or with the "soldiers of fortune" extra. We are talking about something more "recurrent" to justify its use as a faction. Aleph working with only one merc company should bring suspicions over it and O12 for allowing it
