A little reminder. Just because someone has more experience/knowledge, using that as "truth" in a argument is what is called an authority phallacy. So please, do not suppose that because someone is knowledgeable in a topic, what he says has to be truth (everybody can be mistaken, and some people just lie). [ didn't you? when hecklers appeared months before the 3rd jammer in the game, and there were lots of rants and claims. It was "the end of the game", they were going to leave the game (they remain playing the same, less games than me, and I play not as much as I want), "hecklers were too OP" so they will bend the meta, and TJC would become the new top tier (you can guess that nothing of that became true) When zulu appeared, most of the rages/rants/comments against hecklers dissapeared and now are silenced. Why? I have my theories, but are just thoughts from a (mad)hatter. DP: yes, pun intended...I know is not so good. sorry
Most likely because it's counter-productive to only post the same complaints all the time? I certainly haven't changed my opinion on neither Heckler (specifically and exclusively the Jammer profile) nor the Zulu (specifically and exclusively the Jammer profiles), but if all I did was post about it I'd end up on everyone's ignore list. I wouldn't presume that anyone else who posted about bad experiences have changed their opinions, either, just because they stopped posting about it. -- There's degrees in Hell as the saying goes, and Eraser is worse than Jammers are - even Jammers in Fireteams. A Kriigel is almost as out of whack as Muttas because they are not bound by dragging a Fireteam along with them to make them so strong, but for different reasons. Only difference is that Spiral aren't as common an opponent as Haqq+Varuna+Nomads.
I have to say, @RobertShepherd, that I am sorely disappointed in you. I just got shown what you've distributed as a "joke" on Discord. I've misunderstood or misread some things here or there, I've admitted that and learned. I've done my best to read your statements in a good light, not as mockery. In return I got mentioned in your "joke", instantly recognizable from participation here and my avatar, jeered at throughout the whole write up. Apparently being one of the top players in Australia gives you the right to mock and jeer at a relative newbie from Poland? I guess that's how the internet works and that's the kind of elitist approach I had in mind before. One can't be wrong, one can't be inexperienced, one needs to git gud or gtfo 'cause the pro-gamurr mafia owns the forum. A very approachable community you guys create, indeed. Stop the dick measuring contest and start educating those who are less experienced with the game instead of making forced jokes at their expense. That's poor form and doesn't get us anywhere.
Fair enough, I still don't agree with the wording and was going to do a longer response, until I realised that I'm only splitting hairs at this point, mostly because "skill" is difficult to explain depending on games and genre. But the reason I didn't go longer is because of the quote above me, which is one I agree with entirely. I've played against or with so many players who had potential to improve and be good players (from all kinds of games), but they are their own worst enemies, as they rationalize or excuse their mistakes or wrong approach to tackling enemies or objectives
Hah, yep. :) I was talking a friend this morning about this thread and he asked me to describe it as if I were a soldier in the trenches writing home. The end product of the writing prompt ended up getting enough of a chuckle that I shared it. I'd encourage you not to take it personally - it certainly isn't meant to be a jeer - but it did help me work out some of the pretty intense frustration I had with you in here over the last day or so.
Spoken like a proper gaslighting bully amused by his own capability to abuse. "You're doing this to yourself! Don't take it personally, that punch wasn't meant to hurt you. I'm just joshing, get a thicker skin. It's your own fault anyway, you've frustrated me! STOP PUNCHING YOURSELF". Yeah, fuck right off.
Oh so I'm not the only one having fun with the new guy. ;D Since I'm for once not part of derailing a conversation, paging @psychoticstorm just for good measure. Dunno if we want to stop feeding the troll or just keep it for hilarity's sake at this point. Always ends the same, we're gonna get bored of it sooner or later anyway.
Yeah okay guys, time to chill now. And yes, let's appreciate the irony that such a statement is coming from me.
Not a fan of bullying in any form. For what it's worth I read that text more as playfully making light of one's own confusion at how completely alien or bewildering other people's points of view can feel on things you otherwise thought you knew well, particularly on the internet. I didn't read the tone as mean spirited, just playfully tongue in cheek, and making fun of itself perhaps as much as the opposing views it referenced (the whole idea of internet arguments as seriously dystopian trench warfare where nothing makes sense gives it a deliberately ridiculous tone). It's regrettable if it caused offence, but I'd guess it was intended to be harmless. I feel like a similar sentiment was expressed here already in a different way.
Well, while giving someone the benefit of the doubt is usually the best course of action it doesn't apply here. First reaction to the slightest hint of sarcasm, irony or musing comments is instant "retaliation" with insults, invoking Godwin's law or other ad hominem. Not even creative ones, just direct application of a blunt instrument. Progressing into "fuck you for making me feel bad about myself overreacting", "fuck you for actually knowing stuff", "fuck you for actually reading the fluff and rules", or just mild variations on that pattern. Can't take a joke, can't criticism, can't keep things on the topic.... oh well as long as we're still having fun ;D Kudos to @RobertShepherd for just being a better human being than I am btw. I applaud the COURAGE AND CONVICTION of the CITIZEN
I don't know how long people's memory is regarding forum upsets, but this pattern keeps repeating itself. Someone gets on bad terms with the more vocal part of the community and that someone will be bombarded with what I regret to call "micro aggression" and they turn defensive and testy. It's human and I think we need to back off and remember that to them we are all acting as a single entity so that if I am insensitive towards them that'll be just like if the next person said it as well. If you want them to have a chance to back down, everyone has to give them that chance, to do so while saving face. What I'm saying is that it kind of feeds on it self. Paging @psychoticstorm maybe topic needs a time out so that people can unruffle their ruffled feathers? And a reminder; for many people these are trying times which means aggressive behaviour is closer at hand, we need to try to avoid responding to aggression with more aggression more than before. It's dark times when no one has suggested biltong and we're on the 10th page...
Jammers are probably getting nerfed in 4th edition - the fact that n3 tournaments will likely all be cancelled is probably a good thing for the health of the game
I was thinking of getting started in April/May, since March/April is generally my busy time of year. Of course, reading the pdf rules (I've watched enough video's for general gameplay) is not as good as real print, but I'll be damned if everyone isn't clinging to their N3's at full price! (well, normal discount) Either way, yeah, this and a couple other "discussions" make me think I'll just give CodeOne a shot until N4, once the world stops ending, and at least then it'll be a good reset.
This fallacy usually stems from listening to poor or irrelevant experts. If a person has relevant expertise in the domain being discussed, and its position is not controversial in that field, then it’s usually best to listen to that expert. I know, it’s not relevant to this thread, but I thought I’d point it out in this trying time where everyone on Facebook thinks of themselves as qualified epidemiologists...
