So I am looking at these guys and trying to figure out why to run them and if so, whom? Within SEF, anyone running them? I kinda like the idea of a harris with the vulkan and dual chain rifles; keeping it cheap. I also like the thought of the Pit Patrol one. Do these guys replace anyone?
Short Answer; No, they don't replace anyone. Long answer: the Red Fury is actually a good, if lightly armored piece to advance as the leader of the haris team. Usually you will want Messer as part of the team as a button pusher. These guys are pretty good if they can get to the middle of the table, where their short range, visual mods and high PH are the most effective. These guys seem like good camo hunters. MSV1 negates the primary modifier and they have lots of templates and short range ability. I think the pit patrol is specially good with the Thaigha's mines and Hyperdynamics allowing it to force camo tokens to make some bad decisions.
I'm a fan of the red fury profile teamed up with Victor messer, then a Gwaillo Fireteamed with M-Drones. Usually start my game with the Gwailo and use him to remove any MSV aro pieces (albedo). Once that is done the cut throat is usually free to go hunting. Another reason I like this combination is the M-Drones(repeaters) give Messer a huge area to work with. I also like doing a coordinated suppressing fire order on the haris team. They all have nano-screen so you can easily place them in the best ARO positions regardless of cover. On turn 2 is when the cut-throat begins to do its thing. It has much better range bands for hunting. If needed Messer has a baording shotgun, but virtually never use it due to the cut-throats ODD. Keep in mind that the Cutthroat has EM Grenades for 0-8 range band. The biggest issue with this whole strategy are template weapons. Lastly having both of these fireteams gives you 2 sets of specialist (m-drones are FO) I prefer to look at list as a whole and how models interact and work together. I'm certain the MSV1 on the cut throat is specifically there to make the cutthroat un-usable with white noise. I think this combination is better than the Sheskin fire team core just because its not putting all your eggs in one basket. The RF profile is the only usable profile and needs to be in a duo with messer. The other duo options are too expensive or add no value. If you remove messer from the sheshkin fireteam you lose a significant boost to that team. Yeah inspired by the discussion above I made this list: Gwailo Jayth────────────────────────────────────────────────── GROUP 1 10 JAYTH CUTTHROATS Red Fury, E/M Grenades / Pistol, DA CC Weapon, Knife. Dazer shrouded if going second/utility to slow down opponent and the Cadmus assault pistols for some nasty off table surprise. Pretty strong active turn and a shotgun + specialist in both main attack vectors . Ofc you can make room for noctifer / speculo with a bit of tweaking also.
@Baszoo tell us how your list works. I just realized your version has a counter an issue my list has a weakness to. By having messer in the haris team you have a hacking counter, which my haris would have to just walk around repeaters\hackers.
I will play test it next chance I get! The duo and haris links will be there but depending on mission I will probably tweak it a bunch during the coming sessions. Since I know I will be playing Tactical Window the list is capped at 15 which ofc influenced the list quite a bit. I decided to move Victor over to Gwailo haris due to going with the HMG profile. Having the Gwailo haris as the "long range" fighter that can keep going after MSV if needed later turns + hacking utility etc. I wanted atleast one M-drone to sacrifice if needed for the "white noise trick" when hunting Kamau or similar units. The idea with the cadmus is to complement to rather obvious two threats with a more flexible attack vector. With the n4 changes to crits I wonder if AP spitfire profile on gwailo might see more use aswell. Hmmm
You can always use the M-Drones repeater to place white noise if Messer is duoed with the cut throat. One mistake I found with this list is trying to shoot at an MSV2 wildcard model in a 5 man fire team. They ignore the -6 for shooting through digital smoke from sixth sense. I usually try and use the Gwaillo to shoot the other fire teams member ignoring the MSV2 LOFs. then trying after I get it down to 3 man link. You just need to keep the M-Drones hidden.
You can bait the MSV troop into an ARO against one of your M-drones and then blast it on normal rolls with your Gwailo as a nice trade if you no longer need the +1 B.
This was what I was refering to when I said "white noise trick". I think its a good trade vs units like Kamau etc
