https://www.adepticon.org/2020/03/11/adepticon-update-on-coronavirus-covid-19-updated-03-05-20/ please no!! I've been looking forward to this for months!! And our idiot president makes a ban on travel from Europe! So even if it happens, @Bostria will probably not be able to make it :(
I mean..... 1. It's kind of out of their hands at this point, it's most likely the state stepping in and placing restrictions 2. While I'm not saying its time to panic, you should probably take this kind of seriously and understand that a pandemic can have serious effects on our economy and health care system if it gets worse. Adepticon canceling would stink, sure, but cargo and goods aren't banned from Europe so I don't see a delay on Kaldstorm or anything. Though I can see CB seriously relying on this type of visibility and sales from the con to help kick off C1/N4
CB operate their American convention booths in partnership with Warsenal, so Jay, Sarah, et al can still run the booth if the con goes ahead.
Positive and him do not go together! Just keeping fingers crossed. IL Has not been hit hard but cities have been canceling events. But cities are more likely to do that than business.
Here in Poland the state has effectively ordered all major gatherings shut down. Movie theaters, for example, got closed, despite being privately operated businesses. Pyrkon, one of our main cons, is cancelled, too. AFAIK. So... it may go either way, I guess.
At this point the odds are pretty good that it will be canceled or postponed. There will be pressure at the state level to cancel large gatherings and pressure from vendors to postpone as they don't want to make employees support the con, both for health and liability reasons. Washington State has already put an event ban in place, and Governor Newsom is talking this morning about doing the same in California, so it's probably a race at this point between Illinois canceling everything and Adepticon losing enough vendors and attendees to warrant postponement.
This is probably the best course of action considering the circumstances. While I'm sure we all love wargaming and Infinity, public health should be the priority for everyone.
Yep. Ohio has also banned crowds at sporting events, and cancelled the expo part of the Arnold Fitness Class last weekend. Pretty soon I expect every sports league to have suspended play. NBA and MLS have, NHL has an announcement in 15 min. Edit: Yep, NHL suspended the season too. Think about every time you've heard of getting just the regular "con crud" from adepticon, gencon, a comicncon, etc. It's likely guaranteed to have someone transmitting it at a big convention, especially as people are infectious before they show symptoms.
I have several appendages crossed that everything will be under control by then. I have not booked my flights yet though, and the hotel is fully refundable! Edit: Official word on their forums is "Far too early to say anything yet"
I've been holding off purchasing anything aswell. The only reason I bring this up was because E3 was also canceled, that was supposed to be held in June. From my understanding, by nature Corona viruses begin to slow their spread and die off in the summer time
But tend to come back in early Autumn. End of August events may be threatened by new flu season's precautions.
What I heard from virologists in german news is, that the Covid19 virus might not be affected by typical influenza-like behaviour to warm weather. In Germany, events with more than 1000 visitors have to be canceled for sure, 500-1000 visitors should be canceled.
NHL just suspended games . Which is fantastic timing as I just got on a plane to go to my first ever hockey game
Vs Islanders, but not any more sadly. The Celine Dion concert my wife was going to tomorrow at the same arena is also cancelled, though that's no great loss in my opinion.
Our beloved President just informed us that all schools are closing by monday, no date for re-opening...
