Welcome to the internet! There is no half-way. :) N4 is in August, and we have had VERY little information about it. CodeOne is in March/April and we've received some info about it. It'll have 4 factions at launch. There will be rebranding of old important boxes to CodeOne packaging. There will be resculpts of core stuff, and new releases. So indeed, there will be a mix of old UNITS (not old sculpts) in Kaldstrom, isn't this pretty standard? Then, product releases and rereleases for CodeOne will have some new releases and some reboxing of old sculpts, but probably not in the same boxes unless it's a large starter. Like, we'll probably get the Wildfire split into an O12 and Shas starter each, losing the "unique" Gamma and Gualo, but again, that's pretty standard, right? The "information" seems to apply the "four faction" from CodeOne onto N4, but we don't know if that's right. It also seems to conflate "reboxing some stuff to CodeOne" as "we'll release boxes with half old units and half new units".
That's exactly their purpose. They're to indicate what someone is saying, verbatim, as in to indicate it's not the writers words. And that points to the larger elemeng, you're interpreting information through your own lense, which you admit is colored by frustration lately and then re-associating it to someone else. So you can direct that Frustration at them. Rather than reflect that you're frustrated. I get it, we're invested into this game emotionally. And we get excited and set expectations which we wouldn't reasonably apply in other aspects of our life (I assume if you're friend was late meeting you, you probably wouldn't berate them about constantly lying to you because you realise there are elements outside their control which can effect their lateness). we put such a double standard on companies. Oh you MUST tell us tidbits about new releases. But, we will absolutely tear you to shreds if the release is different to how we interpreted the tidbit. It's like gamers and release dates. Or fucking project managers and deadlines.
Not really sure, SKU reduction was a given reason for shelving MRRF and not remaking them for the time being. Same for that PanO sectorial, whatsitname, oh, Acon. Jeebus, no. Stop telling a professional translator and editor that quotation marks have only the single purpose that fits your nitpick of the day. The problem is that CB apparently does not have project managers or they're shit at their job. That their approach is "let's start five things at once, state some deadlines and just delay them until we manage to squeeze everything we promised - or cancel / amend some of that while we're at it". They also do not have competent community / social media managers either, as we're not being told a thing and therefore all we have are hearsay and speculation. And those things we are told regularly turn out to be plainly false or amended after some time, with no communication about it again. It's an infuriating situation when you love the game and want the best for it but hate how the studio is handling it and realize the studio is untrustworthy and may just flip the table on any and all promises because they've felt like it - and a large part of the community will still stand behind them through it all.
I see that there is a bit of panic perfectly eaay to avoid if you simply read what hey public or see the videos. I understand that isn't so easy to believe all they say and I know why. But...come on! they explained a lot with videos.
I watch a video where Bostria says "N4 will have all armies updated at release!" and then hear that Gutier's seminar contains a statement to the effect of "We're staggering the release of N4, some armies or sectorials will not be legal in N4 on release". Yeah, "just see the videos", right.
Really, you're telling me in your professional career it's normal to put a paraphrase in quotation marks? Like what's the point of the quote marks at that point? I understand that quote marks are used for several things, but I'm pretty sure quoting yourself and attributing to someone else is a niche application if at all. Ok, I do understand it's normal to use terms like 'this always happens', ' they never do this' in emotional arguments and it's supposed to be obvious that you don't mean the literal absolute. But like, it's makes it difficult on this end, because the urge is to disagree with the stated point of 'not being told anything'. The main problem with what you're seeing as cb being shit all starts with some very specific interpretation of tidbits from teasers. Teasers are supposed to be vague, to get people to talk and speculate. Railing against this fact is to ignore how businesses try to generate interest. It's unfortunately shitty human psychology and businesses kind of have to play to it because people are notoriously fickle with the attention span of a toddler.
Yes, and more. But we're not here to teach about that, are we? There is literally near zero communication as to the extent of faction availability at release of N4. The one official statement from Bostria claimed that all factions will be there at launch. Now another official statement, from Gutier, says they won't. It's a clusterfuck. You mean to tell me that CB has invented some kind of novel marketing strategy that somehow endears customers to them by keeping them in the dark, confused or outright lied to? And that we're witnessing this great amount of good will generated exactly where? Because aside from me ranting here, just in this thread I've just seen six or eight concerned posts about the factions at release or useless / duplicate models which everyone has getting pack as a forced purchased along with new sculpts as part of the C1 SKUs. Great job, CB, very effective.
It's clear we just live in two different worlds. I literally can't comprehend how you come to the conclusions you do. I would actually be fascinated to learn more about how to use quotes though, because what you're describing it's totally unknown and it would actually be great to know when I'm reading a quote it might not actually be that person's words.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quotation_marks_in_English At the very least. And no, the quotation does not need to be verbatim, it can be a paraphrase as long as the intent is to carry the meaning. It simply marks speech, even when paraphrased. Consider: Did he say "git offa mah lawn!" in thick Southern accent? No, but the meaning was carried and the sarcasm was one of the reasons for the paraphrase. Similarly a vague recollection can still be in quotes.
I understand people use quotes sometimes to mean 'Im speaking in someone elses voice' or various other things (for example "scare quotes'). Language is complex. However it's definitely a novel argument to blame CB for bad communication based on a tidbit of possibly garbled hearsay through a third party, claiming it as an 'official statement', while simultaneously giving the impression they said something very specific which they very likely did not, since you just made it up. The internet is an odd place.
I didn't make things up. There was a clear and video recorded statement by Bostria. And now there's a report of an opposite statement by Gutier. I'm only asking for clear communication and for them to stop contradicting each other all the time.
From the linked wiki page: " Quotation marks are not used for indirect speech. This is because indirect speech can be a paraphrase; it is not a direct quote, and in the course of any composition, it is important to document when one is using a quotation versus when one is just giving content, which may be paraphrased, and which could be open to interpretation. For example, if Hal says: "All systems are functional", then, in indirect speech: Incorrect: Hal said that "everything was going extremely well". Correct: Hal said that everything was going extremely well. " ....... What am I missing?
From Chain of Command on Facebook: "It has been confirmed directly from CB that armies that are currently discontinued (Tohaa, QK, MRRF, Shock Army, NCA) will not be in N4. They may be added at a later date if CB decided to make models for them again. They will be left in N3 Infinity Army builder which will still be left up in case anyone wanted to play n3 with them. Any armies they discontinue during N4 will still be playable in N4. Thanks UT for the update."
The fact that the above is in conflict with multiple style guides for English (though supported by many more, as well) and many literary examples. The distinction between a paraphrase and an imprecise quote is muddy at best. What I did was not a full paraphrase, but an imprecise quote. When doing a press release of a pre-recorded interview, do you quote all the hesitation, broken grammar we sometimes use when we speak, or does it get cleaned up and still "quoted", even though it's been altered? Of course it does. Just as well, my quoting Bostria's statement needn't have been 100% verbatim to still remain a quote, as long as the meaning is not altered the exact phrasing is not critical. Also, we are posting here in an extremely informal setting and this whole thread is a heap of unnecessary nitpickery drawing focus away from the meritum. Even if I ceded to have incorrectly used the marks (I don't but I'm not interested in drawing this particular argument out any longer), the point still stands: One thing was said first, there was no communication in the meantime, then anothe contradictory thing has been said and there has been no communication since. It's a pattern with CB and it's annoying. That's all.
I just watched bostria again (LVO) and the quote (not paraphrase); "N4 will arrive and it will be the whole game, not splitting into different books" In response to James Pittman specifically asking about the rules. So you can have all the rules at once and have army profiles be staggered. Were you remembering wrong or just bad at quoting?
