As you please. Two of my three RV dice did show a clear preference when I measured them so I no longer use any of my non-translucent dice as I couldn't find a single one of my translucent dice to show the same amount of prejudice. The mono-coloured dice are not as bad as one of my favourites - a multi-coloured dice which was very distinctly preference to rolling 17 - but they're still iffy. Whether the die is readable or not when translucent depends on the colour used to fill numbers with compared to the colour of the resin, in my opinion, and whether they mark 6 and 9 properly, so while it's more common for translucent dice to be hard to read, it's not a unique or guaranteed feature of them. I don't have a problem with opponents rolling non-translucent dice as long as it's mono-coloured body, non-countdown, and as long as they don't have a separate set for ARM rolls - just to head off any potential speculation about dice-snobbery.
I hate those ones with all of the detail. My friend uses them and they could all be crits from what I can tell with my bad eyes.
It is possible to have dice without embellishments that don't look so actively cheap as the ones from RV. It is also possible to have dice with embellishments that are easy to read without the extra shapes getting in the way. I personally consider the Yu Jing, Haqq, and Combined dice to be an example of embellishments done right. Unfortunately I have problems reading the rest of the official fancy dice - even the high contrast Aleph. https://store.corvusbelli.com/wargames/infinity/accesories/yu-jing-d20-dice-set
I find all the starter box dice tended to roll high. Very frustrating to go up against because it feels like they made a very disproportionate amount of armour rolls, but also disheartening to use because it felt like they couldn't actually succeed on a roll. Could just be bad luck and confirmation bias on my part, however.
Translucent dice are fairer, you can see if there are impurities in them like airbubbles and they tend to be made of a higher quality. I've salt water tested the 2 player dice kits, they're unfortunately low quality d20s and they are weighted. Same process this guy uses. LGS owner didn't believe me either when I told him this was a thing so I tested his dice for him too just to prove the point.
That is interesting. I guess you should keep those dice and use them if you ever need an even number to succeed.
Or go that route if you so wish. Either or it is your preference. I remember this video from a long time back. Never forgot the concept.
While this has gone largely off-topic, what d20’s do you guys recommend to purchase that are more evenly weighted?
If you're willing to drop some cash there are various brands of machined metal d20s. Most people in my meta use some kind of metal d20.
Not sure if Gamescience are still around, they are the only ones I can remember that really strove for "fair" dice. Even with a slightly biased dice if you make sure they get a good roll with a bounce off a surface, or using something like a dice tray or tower, it will instill enough randomness that it doesn't really matter.
I had to file my Gamescience dice down to have smoth sides. Infinity figures moldlines are easier to fix.
Since April is the month Kladstorm comes out that means we should be getting some pictures fo the units in the near future? Hopefully this month of March? What does everyone else think of when CB will throw us a bone or two?
