Hmm i just hope they keep the names and original descriptions of skills in fluff blurbs. Thermo-Optic Camo sounds way cooler and has the cool description of invisibility like the predator. Versus camo, mimetism -6, hidden deployment, etc... Also does this mean things like Total immunity will need to list out all immunities?
Total Immunity/Vulnerability works fine as is in terms of legibility. We might see Bioimmunity get a change.
So like Shock immunity, viral immunity, shock/viral can be bts or arm. How would the last bit be properly written?
Possibly a new rule, like "Hardened Defense - Can use better of ARM or BTS against ammo types you have an immunity against" Or possibly even just letting all immunities choose the best of ARM/BTS.
I wouldn't hold my breath on that. All 3 of the Guardian models are pretty new and it would require a re-sculpting (admittedly a small one) of two of them.
It is a bit of a sacrifice. I hope the unit descriptions compensate by having more relevance to their profiles/skills. Not if they do the right thing and delete Total immunity Jokes aside, this might be too much for them to handle. TO should be Surprise Shot -3 and Surprise Attack -6.
Unless they've just made Suprise Attack apply to any FTF attack. So say Ninjas get Surprise Attack -6, but your average SK only gets Surprise Attack -3. That being said, I'd prefer to see Surprise Attack just become a contextual modifier than remain a skill.
Shock doesn't need to be on knives at all, why are you saying that? It just makes NWI melee troops worse because the chance thst they get randomly crit off the board is relevant.
I'm happy about this breakdown of Camo. Skirmishers with Camo and Infiltration make up about 5% of all the troops in the game, so having a bit more to differentiate them will be nice. It also allows silent kills against almost everything except full Heavy Infantry, and is usually less likely to wound than a Pistol. The changes to crits will probably be sufficient to fix your issue with Mymidons being shanked, and in any case both NWI, Shock and Immunities are all being used far too liberally now on things that are much more offensive than Knives. I would like to see it taken off Mines though, or else have them refluffed, as it currently says it's a weapon meant to maim and not kill yet has Shock.
With the crit rework thats coming that may be less of an issue, and knives having shock is one of those useful options to up your sleeve. Like having the option to stab that Kuang Shi that got way to close so the little bastard doesn't explode and take out a couple of things that you really don't want to lose. Though if anything the Shock marksman rifle is probably one of the more egregious examples of a shock weapon at the moment as CB seem determined to hand it out to every other profile.
I think this is far less of an issue than you seem to be making it. The principal advantage of NWI CC troops is more that they can tank a hit on the approach. Reducing the amount of Shock BS Weapons improves their overall survival chances so you still see performance improvement. Personally I don't really think that Shock vs NWI/Dogged is the issue. I think Shock insta-gibbing 1W models is the problem. Perhaps rather than reducing the amount of Shock, reduce its power: make Shock simply prevent a trooper hit by it from using their NWI or Dogged.
Nice way to work targeted into the new frame work, instead of the targeted state you inflict mimetism +3 off of spotlight/FO.
It's interesting because it seems they are going to have to thread a careful needle here. People decried "Immunity: Total" for not doing what it says on the tin, so there is a thirst for the naming of skills to make sense. Above is a perfect example of something that gets a little hard to explain. Mimetism is attempting to mimic your environment and, therefore, becoming harder to hit with a shot. Mimetism +3 doesn't make any sense outside of knowing exactly what MODs to apply. This particular example is easy enough to fix in a couple ways: rename the skill (probably not going to happen based on the video), or simply keep the MODs negative and give the plus to another skill... Targeted +3 perhaps?
That's all well and good, but there's no reason it needs Shock when SWORDS don't have it. What makes a knife better against a coked-out maniac than a sword? Nothing. It's not fluff-immersive and it's questionable balance-wise as well.
I just realised how much I'd hate it if Hidden Deployment became even slightly more accessible after being de-nested from TO camo.
Honestly it's the combo that sucks the most. So a HD, Mimmetism-3 trooper is scary but hardly as much of a PITA as suddenly TO. I also really like the idea of Limited Camouflage, Mimmetism -6. Troops like the HRL Ryuken would really benefit from that sort of option.
