It's a fair complaint but I was trying to get at the fact you don't need to take a subpar generalist when you can afford and have easy access to 2 specialists. I also think the additional range is a trap. A Sin-Eater who's covering too much of the table is a trivially dead Sin-Eater. @helsbecter you can run a more orders to get the most out of your warbands with the Mod Core + Aggressive Grrls Haris. It also means that you don't have to worry about
For me with Sin Eaters I just hate how often they get bagged in a single exchange. When you bring out the HMG or (less so) the MSR you pretty much force your opponent to take care of it with their first three orders. For every game when the Sin-Eater dictates the flow, there's two or three where he may as well not have existed. I use the short range ones nowadays when I take them. Moderator and Moira don't have that problem because they're usable in the active turn, so you can give them an easier ARO mission while they wait. Sin Eater has to go big or go home.
Yeah, now that we're talking about it, I'm tempted to give it a spin. It's been a while. This is what I'm running for Frontline/Capture & Protect this weekend: First List ────────────────────────────────────────────────── GROUP 1 10 RIOT GRRL Missile Launcher / Pistol, Knife. That's a general complaint about Sin Eaters, which I agree. I don't take any dedicated ARO troops unless they cost near 10 pts and max 0.5 SWC. Before the correg link rules I would take the MSR Alguacil instead of the ML so I could do both. But a lot of people disagree. It's less about taking advantage of that range and more about not letting a sniper counter-deploy you. That's usually how I kill the HMG Sin Eater. They're hardly used anymore here thou.
It's a reason I like the Spitfire with Bravery. You can usually deploy it in such a way that Sniper kills are hard / inefficient.
I always use the spitfire for that reason, and to avoid enemy snipers. Like I said above, for me it's area denial, so I use it to watch corridors or gaps i don't want my opponent to cross. I especially enjoy using it to watch horizontally across the board, using bravery to cover unusual firelanes. It's a great piece to watch a flank, and I find they chew up so many orders. My opponents all universally hate them now! Sent from my SM-G965F using Tapatalk
Honestly I find the Spitfire and HMG very similar. They get the most out of them when used cautiously on restricted firelanes.
This is my take on the list, it misses a Clockmaker though. Group one as the active group has the Rocket Morlock (who will leave a spot for the TM next round) group two is more passive and provides backup / defence. Deployment is huge for Sin-Eaters. I always have a better experience when I set them up for second turn situations and not first turn ones. It helps slow down my opponent if they are going first and takes advantage of the angles/opportunities opened up by the free FD1 as well as the Spitfire/HMG(if you can get a good side to side angle) ranges.
Interesting debate, however you could be like me and take all 3 in limited insertion just to be a jerk. :D Bakunin Limited Insertion Specialist Heavy──────────────────────────────────────────────────10 SIN-EATER Mk12 / Pistol, CCW. Due to bravery I really like the Mk12, mostly because I'm not wasting the SWC for more or less the same performance as the other versions.
That's my usual go to for the same reasons. I'll jump up to higher burst for certain missions as needed though.
I find I usually have the spare SWC in any list that I'm considering them. If you have the SWC they're a strict downgrade over the Spitfire. There's a triple Sin-Eater list I kind of want to run for lols though.
Yes, agreed. It's wild, since when I first looked up Sin Eaters and what they did I wondered why on earth anyone would take the Spitfire given the other options. Turns out he was the best one all along.
Mostly it's Bravery. Losing that will probably make the cautiously deployed HMG that uses the depth of your DZ to cover their range issues king again. I find there's times where I still want the HMG (vs Infil Grunts and Daylami in particular being able to drop back into your DZ is important). But, we'll probably all go "well actually, the Spitfire is really useful so if you don't have 0.5 SWC don't worry".
