I did, that's how it reads to me. What does it read like to you, honestly? I'm miffed not only for myself but for the general damper those things are putting on disappointed parts of our community. He apparently doesn't seem to be affected by the fact that people are bummed out because promises are broken, prices high, delivery late.
Well, there's some kickstarters that allows you to pledge extra to get that recognition, but I find that to be an incredible waste of money. I just don't see backing a Kickstarter as an investment in the way that I somehow am owed extra recognition, it's more of a store in my eyes, which will produce and sell only if enough people are willing to commit to buying. Admittedly, getting stuff cheaper is a reason to jump on them (which has lead to some pretty big terrain projects of dubious play value for me in the past *ahem* Maze of the Dead), but in this particular case it's more of a "get it asap".
You must've missed a negation, because I was responding mainly to your post where you claimed that "everyone and their mom can still make an account <snip> if I pledged Platinum I'd be pissed" What you missed was that I made an elaborate post that said "Nah huh, I'm not pissed"
$21.42 for me (Collector pledge). How convenient for the Euro to continue to loose value compared to the dollar. Thanks UK. That Brexit thing is working out just fine for the USA. :P Gloating aside, some of those shipping fees are scary. I'm sorry that the rates come as a surprise to many. I hate to pay for shipping, so I can sympathize a little bit. It would be interesting to see what people are getting and the shipping rates for that. That is to say, give the pledge level plus add-ons, and then the shipping rates. Context here would be helpful. And y'know, CB is not making an extra cent off of the shipping. The money is going to bloated and inefficient government mail services, methinks.
You say "slightly annoying", I say "are they even trying or is this just laziness mixed with apathy"... :D
In New Zealand. Pledged Platinum, 250 EUR which was 442 NZD at the time. Now shipping (single) is 102 EUR or 41% of the pledge cost. Going to downgrade to Deluxe. I'd be in a better position (choice wise) if I hadn't pledged and waited to see costs.
You could live in a country with a larger population than Sydney and get your own distribution centre, I suppose. Or you can realise that even trans-Tasman air freight for heavy single packages is expensive.
Obviously he was saying that he will enjoy the product even if others have access to it, rather than getting more enjoyment out of it because others could not pay in later. "Promises broken" uh, okay, they never said no late pledge, they did say that $1 would get you access to the PM, but the rest seems like people assumed stuff? "prices high" I can at least see that shipping increases are a pain, but it's part of the add-on/ stretch goal experience. "delivery late", you still seem to be basing off of the early mention of a June date, even though the KS always said July and complaining that it is going to be August now. Would I rather get it in July, sure, but that's still better than most other kickstarters and a month isn't bad. I have seen other kickstarters that charged slightly more for late pledge vs pledge during the KS, but almost all of them have a Late Pledge option of some sort.
It's mostly volume that is a price buster for these big kickstarters nowadays. Not sure how big the reinforcement packs will actually be, but probably not a bunch given they're just the models. The boxes of cardboard tiles and markers is probably the main detriment. That said, there's plenty of discounters for buying minis, so unless going All-In, it's probably not a huge savings unless you want all the minis of the pack, but not others in their "home" packs.
Promises broken or false warnings issued, tomato / tomato. They specifically stated, over and over, "get in now, pledge now, or miss out". Then at the very end they added the "pledge at least 1 EUR, get access to Pledge Manager in January". Was that required? Did people who pledged Platinum have to or they would've missed out? Did I have to pledge that single EUR? Nope. They needed more money so the opened the gates to everyone after all. Oh, did that Pledge Manager come in January as promised? Right. Does this all happening over and over with all the communication from the company in all of their projects make me trust them more or less? Does it reflect better on their image and customer relations or worse?
Well, folks are fine with feeling some disappointment. They feel they’ve not been dealt with fairly. Whether others among us feel differently, or approach it with a more measured set of expectations doesn’t change that. Reasonable and understandable to me is different from what someone else might think.
Obligatory Kickstarter is a risk based endeavor and so being disappointed by costs or times being different is really an issue of expectation than fairness. It's disappointing, but you *should* have been prepared for changes, because that's standard in project delivery versus planning and Kickstarter points that out repeatedly.
This. It's also a specific problem with Kickstarters that 'spiral'. The more add-ons and unlocks the more likely the project is delayed / shipping costs increase. I missed the original Pledge, but I've bought a friend's copy instead (they realised that they couldn't justify it). I probably wouldn't have if I'd known that it would be open to anyone. So I think they could have done that better, but that's clearly just a miscommunication or a changed decision: no real skin off my nose. I think the biggest takeaway is actually the same as with most big Kickstarters: fewer more defined goals and add-ons provides a better experience. If this has been instead 3 Kickstarters spread over 2-3 years (core game + core relevant features only in this one), then shipping costs would have more accurately reflected reality and likelihood of a delay would have been reduced.
It's the amount of changes, delays, misinformation not this particular case today. All along this Kickstarter and in many other CB endeavours. Just fed up with how close to greatness they are and how they fall short because of sloppy bullshit.
