Personally I feel Tohaa are served much better under the current fluff, there is room to grow and a room for interesting directions, I find the concept of a stranded alien race with a hidden sub-faction with a vastly different agenda than their own quite fascinating.

It wouldn't be the first time something is retconned mind you. If CB wants it to happen, they'll make it fit lorewise. Earth being under direct threat from the EI would be a good (the best?) justification to get it done, perhaps under 0-12 command.

They might just need that kind of overhaul to make them work on the playing field.

It could be. It makes me wonder what would happen if a group of Morats got stranded in the Human Sphere from the Combined Army.
Also I think it would take a huge turn around in the current Human/E.I. war to warrant the Ur forces appearing but I do believe that is where the timeline of infinity is heading. Something to cause the Ur to take notice of Humanity and shove some of their own kind or sub-species as least into the crossfire.

I am not sure we will see UR, the discovery of Humanity possessing a digester resulted in a Pneumarch appearing (and don't get me wrong anybody who makes an Umbra cower in fear is unimaginably powerful) but even he is "just" a really powerful EI host.

I'm of the mind that Defiance shuts down Acheron, which means the invasion is broken for the time being. Morat's and others are still around and fighting, but no big invasion forthcoming.
I mean, really, most scenarios are human on human action, which probably works better with a Morat faction and Shasvaasti faction that aren't part of a massive threat, but more low-scale fights for their place in the Human Sphere.

Morats are professional soldiers with a pretty strict code of honour and militaristic society, most likely they'd make a fighting retreat or adjust to a raiding style of warfare. Surrender might be possible (they're soldiers, not fanatics) but I doubt the majority would switch sides.

I also understand from the background that the Ur are so deeply enmeshed with the EI that they're essentially part of it now. Having aspects of the EI is probably as close to the actual Ur taking the field as it gets. Especially as the high casualty rate of ships coming through the Acheron wormhole, let alone the blockade, is a risk the Ur probably won't want to take.

That raiding philosophy/ guerilla warfare seems a perfect setup for Infinity. I don't think Golem2God meant they'd join humanity, just that they would be in the Human Sphere and have to make their own way, which would mean raids and fighting as they grab supplies.

Exactly. We already have Morats that do work with Humanity as Mercs. I was thinking more along the lines of Morats rebuilding as an enclave of non-E.I. dominated society in the Human Sphere like what they used to be before subjugation.

The Morats that work with the Human Sphere are all criminals, oathbreakers, and (by Morat standards) cowards. Remember that Krakots escaped from a penal regiment so aren't really indicative of what the rest of the Agression Force who would do.

That is a tidbit of lore that I've haven't see/read. Guess that means any Ur appearing outside of more tool-subspecies such as the Urkherit Nexus Operators. I'd personally like to see more of these favorite subspecies of the Ur someday. They'd open up some possibilities/ideas for a sectorial that focuses on them over a "cover all species" list like Onyx.

I understand that. The bits of the Morat lore that elude to the species wanting freedom from their master controllers make me think that if a Regiment or body of MAF were left behind by wormhole closing they'd take that as an opportunity to "start over anew". Carving a place in this area of space for themselves alone.

Those are "scum" (at least in in MAF's eyes) prisoner Morat. I'm thinking more along the line Morats who didn't fall out of favor or dishonored in their armies.

Humans don't exactly have a great track record when it comes to "allowing" alien races to live within their influence... If antipodes and helots are any indication of how they will be treated, I don't think the Morat would be very compliant.

Agreed. Plus Morats wouldn't want to intergrade into an Alien society & the E.I. basiclly forced them with destruction before they begrudgingly agreed to join. Plus they were only allowed due to their usefulness as soldiers for the Ur cause.
Tohaa would do it to gain some form of control or influence than any comradery.
I never thought that Morats would join Humanity just become "Those warmongering aliens in that system over there that attack us often" if they weren't under E.I. influence at the very least.

I strongly suspect we would end up with Enemy Mine type of situation. Humanity and Free Morats not liking or trusting each other, but still cooperating to a degree to combat EI threat. Especially since humans might hope for being absorbed after defeat, while any Morat rebels would be simply killed off.

I'm more interested in how independent Shasvastii would work out. I don't buy that "enemies no matter what" bit. Shasvastii are too pragmatic for that. And there's always the possibility of new fluff showing that it was EI which manipulated humans into destroying Shasvastii embryo storage.

It's important to recall that early on, the fluff with Antipodes didn't have this trash of scalphuntin' Good Ol' Totally Not Confederate Lite Boys in the USAriadnan contingent.

It had the whole bit about the security contingents having treated them as beasts though. But that's something that could potentially have been worked through, if one applies a kind of logic to the situation...but being treated as vermin to get cleared out, permanently, after their intelligence has been shown and confirmed just paints it into a "Ohemgee there must be waaaaaaar!" situation.

Plus there is the fact of other Shasvastii groups out in space as the species split off from each other a very long time ago. Humanity might come across a species that is different from the Shasvastii but in reality are descendant from the Shasvastii who gen-modified themselves to what they are now.

In general I like the idea of few well thought out alien N2.
