Are Geckos any good? I have tried running a Gecko Duo and single Gecko both with Mk12 and 2 x Combi Rifleversions.

I have tried using them as both an early game and a late game piece and just cant seem to make them work.

The problem with them I see are thus:

    1) Too expensive for what they do (and they dont do a lot)
    2) Too slow for a TAG, they need 6-4 move imo.
    3) They really suffer from getting outranged and their burst is too low (looking at the Mk12 version here)
    4) Given they are a TAG, they should be good at shooting but they just aren't, no special ammo on their guns, too low burst.

I really want to like them but they just never seem to work or be worth their points. Has anyone had any luck/good strategies for using them?

You need the right mindset with them. They have bad gunplay with a weakness strong F2F AROs. They can't solve that problem. They can burn thru chaff faster than most by splitting fire and shrugging off the return shots of who you missed. But they need to pick their targets.

Their main use is late game scoring, which is drab but also a game winner. They shine most by winning games you were losing.
They're also pretty good at defense because despite their point cost, they are still expendable as they only generate one order. Lose a Gecko, go down to 9 orders. Not have a Gecko, go down to 6 by losing cheerleaders instead.
No one wants to waste orders killing a Gecko. They want to kill a link member or your Intruder. They want to get McMurrough while he's not active. Killing a Gecko is like killing one bird with 10 stones.

I prefer the Combis to get the extra burst to help win F2F and to be able to split fire better. But if you notice you spend most of your shots in reaction the MK12 might be the better choice for the damage boost. Also keep in mind that both profiles are dangerous from 0-32 due to their disposable weapons and chain colts.
I like to duo him with Lupe to save orders moving another specialist up. Plus smoke grenades.

And keep in mind that they play the game and score points. They are disposable. They are problem causers not solvers. They are there for your list, your list is not there for them (that's why they cost so little SWC). And even good things do bad until you figure them out or get bored and stop.

The gecko exists for 1 purpose, Deliver a dual assault pistol wielding murder hobo so he can either burn something down or press buttons.

everything else is just an added bonus.

That's one way to play them. I'll usually use up my wounds chain colting or splitting fire before dismounting.

I still like gecko duos. The Combi and mk12 loadouts compliment each other really well. Then after they make it up the board the mk12 goes into suppressive very nicely while the combo can still run around their backfield.
