So just heard that units will be removed in N4. As a new player I'm wondering when we'll get information on which ones as I'd like to buy more but don't want to buy them and throw them out in 6 months.
Frankly, there's not going to be a lot removed, especially compared to the speculation you're likely to see around the place. N2 -> N3 saw maybe half a dozen removals, some units change completely, and a bunch more added. If you want to be super, super safe, then anything in a Battle Pack or Beyond Box is a sure bet. Come March when Code1 releases you'll get a list of troopers that will definitely stay. Finally, there's a reason CB's official proxy rules are so generous. If you want to keep using your Isakiller model, you can play it as a Fraacta, or a Rasyat, or as an Obsidron. Even if the profile that exactly matches the model disappears, it can still see the table.
I didn't think it was going to be many. It would just be really annoying if in the vast catalog I picked the few that were. I like the proxy rules for profile options (like I didn't buy the special ninja bow so I use the regular ninjas). I also understand using similar models like a Tiger Soldier in place of Liu Xing (for IA)
I wouldn't worry about it. If it is part of the new line and been redone in the last 6 years it will stick around. Neo terran will be dropped as an active line is the next one to go. Honestly I think it is far more likely we'll see changes to what profiles can take more than whole profiles disappearing. Having said all that ...yeah most infinity players will slow down on purchases because there is no idea what is happening in the game. If your new i wouldn't worry about it. They aren't going to gw i .
Any recently released unit is safe to purchase. That's almost all units you can find in Corvus Belli's store. Code One will contain what CB considers to be Infinity's "essential units", but that implies that a lot of miniatures won't be in Code One so don't worry too much about that. Keep in mind that you may need to re-evaluate what you buy later as the profiles and rules change.
A good point of view to possible removed / continued miniatures are the defiance reinforcements packs. If it's in those boxes it will continue.
now that would be a hilarious kick in the teeth if all reinforcement units were discontinued outside of defiance.
N2->N3 also didn't see staff making it clear that "There's a big time jump!" like we saw recently. That's the kind of thing you say when you're wanting to cut cut cut. That's assuming those will stay around forever.
Super safe: - PanO Varuna - YuJing Invincible Army - Nomad Tunguska - Combined Army Shasvastii - Ariadna TAK - Aleph OSSS - HaqqIslam Ramah Taskforce - O12 - JSA - Spiral Corps
I wonder whether they will bother updating the removed sectorials such as QK and MRRF. It would be a shame if I could not use any of those french models forever. I liked it that they still stayed in the system.
No one is of the idea that with a big jump in the timeline, if there will be any cut, could it be also beneficial ? There is a discussion already in another thread following what Carlos said during one of the two latest big announcement videos, regarding the fact the special rules naming will be simplified, as an example for making the game more accessible to new players. If that would be the case also for some units, regarding those has been used the less / never used / no more in production, than why not ? The more I read the more I get the idea people that playing the game from the early times of N2, agreed on the fact the rules has been bloated, where instead of trying and balancing what already in place, new rules, new weapons, etc has been added to the table. From this prospective, I am keen to see a change, as something it could bring the whole experience forward, instead of holding it back.
I’ve got the full shock army collection. I didn’t mind when they went out of print. Really really hoping they don’t decide to go the “just use them as proxies” route. That would be really disappointing to me. Old rules are fine, but losing my favorite sectorial all-together would really hurt
To be perfectly honest, while it sucks* to have some models owned be redefined as proxies, I do think they should cut the cut sectorials properly. A sectorial that is discontinued but still developed is a waste of time, space, and as such money for CB and for their customers who won't get the entertainment service they pay for. This is not to say that not all units or models that are decently up to date can't be recycled into new sectorials or even become completely new units. * Being honest, I'm actually only saying that as a courtesy, I think this has been advertised a long time for certain sectorials.
I agree with this completely. CB shouldn't get rid of the sectorials from the army builder or tournament play. Do what you will with the models that is your business but keep the option to play these units/sectorials open to us.
A simple 'counts as' FAQ from CB would be golden. It would be 'official' and make certain proxies absolutely non-controversial. For examples: the old HMG Ragik counts as a Spitfire Ragik; Acontecimento Regulars count as Fusiliers (which they are, really); and so forth. CB would have to make it clear that the list of 'counts as' is one of those 'includes but is not limited to' things, otherwise That Guy -- insufferable little manlet that he is -- will argue that the only allowable proxies are the one specifically listed. If nothing else, forum members can compile something once we see what units will be eliminated. That's in what 2-3 months from now. If the Kaldstrom releases at Adepticon, general availability won't be until the second half of April. Army builder will update sometime before then. And Maybe the complete Code One rules.
So... this is not sufficiently clear?: PROXIES Under no circumstances can miniatures from other brands or manufacturers be used as proxies. The use of other Corvus Belli miniatures is allowed; however, players must inform their adversary which trooper is being represented. The figure must use the same size base as the trooper being represented
I pretty much bought, and painted everything available for NCA. Same with Varuna. I most surly will do the same for sval. That being said, ill be waiting to make those sval purchases for after N4 release. I absolutely dont mind that NCA will not be supported any longer, however if it, or any sectorial for that matter is completley "squated", I dont think I'll continue to play or support this game. Infinity is the best table top game ive played, hands down. I was also a victim of end times, and I wont support any company that pulls that. I'll just go back to Bolt Action, simply because i know I'll never lose my T-34s. Hopes are still high, but ya never know.
It may be a waste of time for CB to update the discontinued sectorials, but it certainly would be a loss of entertainment value if they cut those sectorials for the customers who play them. I understand if CB argues they can't afford to spend resources on updating them to N4, but I would be disappointed and see myself of being deprived of some entertainment value I have put money in.
