Right some one uses them, how do you use them, when do you use them , how do you compose them ? Wanting to play about wuth them. I see a harris option being very useful but interested in knowing how ppl use the 5 man

New year, new bolt thread :)

Jokes aside, haris is the most cost effective for the swiss army knife the bolts represent.

I used to run them when there was extensive requirements for the midfield. Usually took 1-2 drop bears and peppered the field with mines as I moved up. Presents a nice deterrant for future turns. Other than that, take the spitfire and hacker (for missions).
Final member is nicely rounded out by an aqila FTO.

There are a few configurations which I like.

    Firstoff, the Haris:

    BOLT Spitfire / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 23)
BOLT (Fireteam: Haris) Boarding Shotgun, Drop Bears / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 19)
    MACHINIST (NCA) (Bioimmunity, Veteran L1) Combi Rifle, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 16)

    BOLT Spitfire / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 23)
BOLT (Fireteam: Haris) Boarding Shotgun, Drop Bears / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 19)
BOLT Hacker (Assault Hacking Device) Boarding Shotgun, E/Mauler / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 24)

    BOLT Spitfire / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 23)
BOLT (Fireteam: Haris) Boarding Shotgun, Drop Bears / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 19)
BOLT (Killer Hacking Device) Boarding Shotgun, E/Mauler / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 21)

Regardless of the changes I still see the Bolts as an assault unit. I want them to be bringing a specialist, and they are going into hacking range so I see hacking tools as worthwhile to bring along. There's an argument for the Paramedic, but I figure the Machinist fills that slot if you want to go in that direction and why pay for a Combi+LSG if you can avoid it.

Then there's the full fireteam, in the first instance I'd still have my thoughts on using them as an assault unit:

    BOLT Spitfire / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 23)
BOLT (Killer Hacking Device) Boarding Shotgun, E/Mauler / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 21)
BOLT Hacker (Assault Hacking Device) Boarding Shotgun, E/Mauler / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 24)
BOLT Boarding Shotgun, Drop Bears / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 18)
BOLT Boarding Shotgun, Drop Bears / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 18)

My argument here would be the same, I want a specialist or two, we're going into hacking range so that's a tool worth bringing along and I don't want to pay for Combi+LSG. I understand the argument regarding "added vulnerabilities" but deployed carefully it's going to be hard to hit one Hacker without pulling the other and there's no reason you can't have a reserve Bolt these days.

If you REALLY don't want to have the Hackers along then you probably want:

    BOLT Spitfire / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 23)
BOLT (Multispectral Visor L1) MULTI Sniper Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 27)
BOLT Paramedic (MediKit) Combi Rifle + Light Shotgun / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 22)
BOLT Boarding Shotgun, Drop Bears / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 18)
BOLT Boarding Shotgun, Drop Bears / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 18)

Here you've got a specialist, much more flexible range bands on your firepower and still good close range capabilities. You are racking up a few more points for it 'though, and I wonder if the rest of the list is going to be able to lay down the fire you need to back it up.

The other way to go would be long range fire support, which ends up looking like this:

BOLT (Multispectral Visor L1) MULTI Sniper Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 27)
BOLT Missile Launcher, Light Shotgun / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 26)
BOLT (Chain of Command) Combi Rifle + Light Shotgun, Drop Bears / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 27)
BOLT Boarding Shotgun, Drop Bears / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 18)
BOLT Boarding Shotgun, Drop Bears / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 18)

Chain of Command because it's the perfect place to put it, Shotguns to cover corners and throw out Drop Bears and (obviously) the Sniper and Missile Launcher to dominate long range bands. It's not the perfect incarnation of this kind of build, but it's not bad at it either.

Yeh some nice options there depending on mission.
Like you say the points cost when you can have a cheap fusillier link seems to restrict the list a lot more and its debatable if the 5 man link is going to be worth the points increase in terms of what it can get done vs a cheap fusillier link + addition points to support.
Will depend on opponent and mission.
I quite like the black friar too so have thought of running that in a bolt harris

I'm not sure that I like any configuration using the Black Friar myself:

BOLT (Fireteam: Haris) Boarding Shotgun, Drop Bears / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 19)
BLACK FRIAR (Albedo, Biometric Visor L1) MULTI Rifle, Nanopulser, Drop Bears / Pistol, CC Weapon. (0 | 28)
    BOLT Spitfire / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 23)

This gives up your Specialist, and I'm not sure that the Black Friar brings enough to be worth that cost and:

BOLT (Fireteam: Haris) Boarding Shotgun, Drop Bears / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 19)
BLACK FRIAR (Albedo, Biometric Visor L1) MULTI Rifle, Nanopulser, Drop Bears / Pistol, CC Weapon. (0 | 28)
    MACHINIST (NCA) (Bioimmunity, Veteran L1) Combi Rifle, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 16)

THIS, or the other options for Specialists out of the Bolts (Assault Hacker, Killer Hacker, Paramedic, Chain of Command) don't bring any real go-forward.

    'nyeh, don't like 'em.

I'll also add that since Third Offensive the NCA Machinist option became something like "pocket Bolt specialist". For just a 16 point (2 less then the cheapest Bolt option) you'll get something that shares Bolt special skills, links in the same manner as Bolts do, run (a bit) faster, has D-charges and is a specialist! The assault Bolt fireteam would look like this:

    Neoterran Capitaline Army
    ──────────────────────────────────────────────────

    [IMG]5
    BOLT Spitfire / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 23)
BOLT (Killer Hacking Device) Boarding Shotgun, E/Mauler / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 21)
BOLT Paramedic (MediKit) Combi Rifle + Light Shotgun / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 22)
    MACHINIST (NCA) (Bioimmunity, Veteran L1) Combi Rifle, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 16)
BOLT Boarding Shotgun, Drop Bears / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 18)

    1.5 SWC | 100 Points

    Open in Infinity Army

Yeh was thinking a harris with bolt machinist and black friar mite work well some missions backed up by a fusillier and csu core and a swiss guard to do the heavy hitting . Things like armoury fusilliers provide cover swiss does the heavy damage and the harris can get in to the objective early

You will probably want to clear the way for the Bolts first, but once they’re upfield the Drop Bears and Black Friar do well to keep opponents at bay.
