Most gardeners and builders in the UK use vans, things like the Ford Transit or Mercedes Sprinter, they generally seat three and can fit far more than any pickup ever will.

My parents are keen gardeners, DIYers, generally end up hauling all sorts of stuff and they have a Citroën Berlingo, someone else in their village has a silly American truck (an F150 double cab if I'm not mistaken) and the Berlingo fits so much more in it!

I remember back to one of the older GTA's on one of the radio shows (a small claims court type deal Ala Judge Judy) a man takes his ex in for wrecking his ridiculous truck after a break up when asked why he had such a vehicle the response was " Your honor i need that truck, I'm an accountant" and was followed by a very Fight Club-esque lecture to the ex from the judge on how such thing are needed to make office workers feel like a "real man". this was back in the early 2000's too.and trucks have only gotten less and less practical since then. Hell i'm 6' tall and i think i'm going to need a step ladder to get in these things within a couple years.

Depends on whether you load bags or bulk, but a 4-door pickup is always stuck with the shortest possible bed. I've seen some with a 4ft bed, which is just utterly useless! A 6ft bed (typical for Ranger/HiLux, and the 'Shortbed' option on full-size trucks) is what I'm talking about, and if/when I buy a pickup I'm getting an 8ft bed.

Which still seems super small for a utility vehicle when the shortest Transit starts at 10 feet for the cargo area, even my parent's Berlingo which is no longer than a standard saloon can get 6 feet with the middle seats down/removed and can fit things 10 feet long with the front passenger seat folded.

They also have the upside of keeping things dry, which is a big advantage when my Dad is schlepping all the gear for his band, they tend to have lower floors too which makes getting things in and out easier.

Winter is coming and here in France we've got a few thing coming with it:
    - Christmas/New Year's Eve
    - Flu
    - and strikes

Ok it could be a WTF by itself it that's so common it doesn't deserve it but today's WTF requires a bit of context.

As a major strike is planned for quite some time in Paris area which will result in something like no public transports (at least)for several days (at least), everyone is aware of it and all companies had time to anticipate it (mine included).

Since a few years, the government is urging companies to put in place remote working policies when possible so it could be used in a balanced way (benefit without impact for both company and employees). Some already did it years before, some just can't because of the type of activity and some (like mine) just didn't move because it would requires work from HR.

I work in a company that is in a fourth category: some people already use remote connection for years but no policy is in place so other people can be denied to use it.

This year HR communicate to inform that everyone who actually can work remotely (ie has a laptop assigned) can do it this week (strike is planned Thursday and Friday for sure), other can work in a closer site and other ease...

So still no WTF here, it's pretty much a great step forward.

    Here is where is comes:
As part of IT me and all my colleagues are part of the happy few who can work remotely with a large latitude.
But there is this major a**h*** who only open his mouth to either denigrate someone/thing or suck some higher grade's d***, who made this statement out loud right after reading the HR mail: "Ok for this week but they didn't say anything about working at home next week".

I had to restrain myself a lot not to say something like:
"You're not showing up before 10:00 in the morning, at 11:45 you're already gone and won't be back until 14:00, at 16:45 you have left the building (not even mentioning his 6 smoke breaks a day), you're living nearby and using your car not the public transport, you're part of IT and can remote work when you want when some of our colleagues has to use their vacation or won't be paid and when HR is doing something right you still find a way to complain !!!"

How else one can afford all the new model releases and support three armies? I suspect the other half is dealing coke.

I would say at least half of ANY forum. Other people are using those "social media" things.

If he's that 'productive', why aren't you saying that in an 'accidental' Reply All to his bosses and HR and etc?

Let's say that the companies life is quite... I think rating "complicated" as an understatement would be an understatement itself.

    So...

The woman who owns the bar I work at is...into doing things how she wants to do things and if that isn't how things are supposed to be done, then the world will just have to change for her.

Her bar has been failing and she decided back at the end of October that she was going to close it. She asked my best friend, who is another manager (I am GM, she is kitchen), and me if we wanted to buy it in November. We said that if she could stay open until the end of the year to give us time to get stuff together, we would certainly try. We absolutely knew we could make the place make money.

So, mid November, she went on a two week vacation to Iceland, came back, and never checked in on us. She finally came in and told us that she wanted to sign the sales contract on Dec 13, which would also be the day we would own the place. I said we'd have to talk about it and scramble to get things together three weeks earlier than planned.

Well, as we were finding out that we simply can't take over the place AND keep it open (due to things that go along with the transfer) in the time span she'd prefer, she was busy taking her name off of things or trying to transfer them into our names before we had even seen a contract.

Today, the day before we are supposed to meet to sign the contract that we asked to see at least two days ago that we haven't seen yet, I sent her an email telling her that we simply can't afford to buy the place after looking at everything. Turns out she hasn't checked her email in, like, two fucking days. Here's hoping she doesn't come in tomorrow without having checked it.

What is it with people thinking selling bars is easy. In the US the liquor license is usually what has the value, and with a license comes regulation. The more regulations the more value. Yet time and time gain I see bars sold where the license transfer is messed up negating much if not all of the value. These sellers had to jump through all the hoops when they went in, why are they so narcissistic about their own problems that they think the next folks won't have the same hoops I don't know.

That said, loth, if you need any advice feel free to reach out, I've done bar sales and leases before and would be happy to offer suggestions.

I super appreciate the offer. We are working on some things and I think there will be a different place in this same space staffed by some familiar faces, but we can't talk about that yet >.>

So, i got a nice christmas present from my company.
I am going to get a new head of department and a new area manager which will start at 02 January which makes me cautiously optimistic.
Its a rather "new" company regulation that those both jobs have to rotate regulary and i hope they will keep it up.

Myself couldnt shut up and asked if we get new supervisors as an easter present. My supervisor wasnt amused that day, but well i dont like him anyways.

    Your local fishmongers.
